I have so many drawings made on nyc subways over the years of people touching their faces, unwise in these public health days but I’ve always been after capturing these moments and often thought that they are moments of tenderness to the self especially needed against a passenger’s aloneness in a train car full of people. Back when I lived in Rome years ago I’d regularly go out drawing with a good friend who wanted to draw just like the Old Masters and I loved and learned from looking at them too as with this study I but wasn’t interested in that, I always wanted something a little more contemporary or perhaps of myself in there.
