hai ! welcome to my blog !

i left instagram for tumblr because a bunch of people from work & my town started following me on there and i love embarrassing myself on the internet too much for that.

i post my drawings, myself, stuff on my mind, and reblog whatever strikes a chord with me !

my interests are music (mainly emo & edm), drawing, original characters, collecting records & cds, roleplaying games, and barista-ing / espresso ! i'm looking for friends / mutuals my age, especially ones that share my interests. i do commissions & art trades as well :D

i really want to make friends in the scene... this tiny town is so lonely. can't wait until i can drive so i can go to the city and attend live music and events and meet people who love and value the same things i do.

i was thinking about trying to start a group in my local area for emos my age, maybe put up some flyers or facebook posts or something. i just really want to be involved with other people who are also in the subculture.

no makeup cause it's 5am and i just haven't had the energy.. but woke up with the urge to style my hair and gave my bangs a much-needed trim before i head to work XD

quit my dream job because it was making me fatigued. got hospitalized because a mood episode made me too fatigued to function. got on the right meds and am finally stable enough but fatigue is a side effect. sometimes i feel like i can't win. i'm exhausted.

make no mistake that emo/scene is a music based subculture because it is. But i feel like people are so quick to dismiss the "aesthetics" of it so quickly and regard it as something trivial and unimportant.

Scemo is art to me, both in music and in fashion and in visuals. Broken hearts and scratchy emo boy doodles with demon wings and slit wrists. crying anime wolves with swoopy bangs. checker boards and razor blades and poetry about how you are sad and alone because youre 13 and youre experiencing the horrors of the world for the first time in your life. scuffed up converse with fading sharpie doodles and that one thick rubber bracelet from hot topic thats about to snap from over use. overly complex blingees of skelanimals and Pon and Zi with glitter and rainbows and textures and screenshots of JTHM panels with lyrics poorly edited in the speech bubbles.

such a beautiful and unique form of self expression that you can only unlock by being your true authentic self that many people are bullied to grow out of lest they be labeled as tryhard fakedeep lolcows posted on r/im14andthisisdeep. but like you know what. it IS that deep! not many people stay making this kind of art for long. "its just a phase lol i was so cringe back then" well its not for me and it never will be. its so meaningful to me

u can be smug about the music all u want because i get it, its important to remember and acknowledge when discussing the subculture but dont act like the art isnt worth anything

I think it's very annoying how people don't understand that the alt subcultures are, just that, subcultures. Like it's not solely the clothes you wear, for some people it's not at all the clothes you wear. It's your views on the world, how you feel as a person, your societal standpoint.

Punk isn't just mohawks and patched denim jackets, it's anti-consumerism and anti-capitalism. It's a distaste for politics and sometimes an angry view of political things.

Goth isn't just wearing black and being spooky, it's intellectualism, religion or religious symbolism. It's history and it's rebirth.

Emo isn't just having fringe and being sad, it's vulnerability and openness in themselves and others, it's emotional authenticity. It's accepting mental health issues and being open about them.

Grunge isn't just cardigans and Kurt Cobain, it's anti-authoritarianism, equality, humanitarianism. It's breaking gender norms, a distaste for the big corporations and feeding into them, much like punk.

And for all of these, it's individuality, creativity, acceptance, support and understanding. It's listening to the music that promotes these ideologies and taking actions to promote them as well. And of course, there's overlaps in all of these but I felt the need to bring out the main ideologies of each one.

Alt is not just what you wear.
