An experimental piece that started because I was curious as to what the “catener” object did in Blender. I guess one thing led to another and .. I ended up with some sort of thorny mechanical heart. https://www.instagram.com/p/CDBu0fKjk8_/?igshid=14db0ijnd2v7n
Made another song! Got cyberpunk and irradiated streets on my mind
Listen/purchase: Radon Sand by Koebel
Oh I made another song. And the illustration has nothing to do with the content of said song.
But it pleases me
A weird rock-tree creature I designed after another weird creature I describe in a short-story I’m writing - Rock-Tree Thing - 3D model by Moutrave (@moutrave)
Rock-Tree from the Gray lands
It’s creepy and not very pretty, but it’s my weird-ass creature
I like these new Zbrush 2019 filters.
A second before the end. Life leaving Earth.
I think I like orange.
Just a doodle - Diablo Sage Final - 3D model by Moutrave (@moutrave)
Oh yeah the Sketchfab version
It's like a tired but venerable hippie starfish had fallen for an eyeless metallic demon, the consequence of their forbidden love their complete fusion at the back of each other's head.
This is truly tragic.
So yeah when I die I want my body to be sent away to space in this crazy ass thing.
A 3-weeks game jam taking place in the London metro. After a soccer game. Featuring a shitload of angry hooligans.
Montroyal game society theme game jam. Keywords : Tube. X. Yeah it could have given birth to something much weirder than a London metro regulation game where the goal is to prevent frenzied hooligans pouring out of the stadium from colliding with each other. Done with Clement Linel (click on the post title to check his website out !) and Sylvain Douce.
You can play it here : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xtkm7bwwkduldhx/AACxWJT0Lr1yO_UdUBBmStd9a?dl=0
Just click on any tile to rotate it in order to create a path for the hooligans.
The supreme goal being to have them take the right train, corresponding to their color. Sometimes a “Random tile” button will appear at the bottom of the sceen, it will shuffle any tile you click on with another one. We didn’t have time to put all of the modifiers in, it’s a 3 weeks game jam after all !
Zach / Cloud’s Buster sword, quick and dirty prop made for my Aerith’s house scene from FFVII. Although the sword wasn’t in the original scene, I thought it would be cool to add it to the composition, it’s a nice focal point and adds a touch of enviro storytelling. I also modeled Aerith’s white Materia, and the Phoenix invocation materia....sooo symbolic !
This prop also gave me the chance to model a weapon for the first time. Making the edges look right is a demanding exercise...I hope it’s not too bad, I’ll certainly keep praticing my hard surface modeling !
Texture is mostly flat color, the roughness and spec maps give it some detail for lighting, I did a very quick sculpt of the motif on the golden handle but it’s hardly visible.
Test for video game jam
Music and sounds for Absolute Zero game jam. First time recording sounds, game was made with 3 friends in about 3 months on and off. You can play it online or download it via this website : http://wecomefrommars.net/?p=58
Enjoy !
Small word on the direction for music : my friend Guillaume, the artist on that jam, wanted something between Carpenter’s “The thing” and Vangelis’s Blade Runner.
1st track I made was deemed to dark and depressed, so I went more into the 80s style synths…and made 2 short tracks for title screen and credits. The only sound in common between the 3 music tracks remains the whale lament.
I made it all using SOnar X3, Rapture, DImension pro, my guitar, my voice and my electronic appliances and other everyday objects that could provide me with interesting sounds to play with !
I uploaded all of my sound FX here, free to DL and use : https://www.freesound.org/people/Moutrave/
Here is a video of the final prototype of the game!
hope you enjoy.
Inspirations
Recipe for backgrounds: Take a good base of Arctic Research stations – the wooden kind if possible Mix them up with a good 80’s and early 90’s retro mood, John Carpenter’s The Thing style! Sprinkle a good dose of Another World design You will get a procedural cake with a nice retro Taste.
For the drone visual I based my design on Gertie – from the movie Moon – who is very monolithic, with a basic figure and on a unicycle. This mix creates at first a comical effect but that can prove fatal…
For the hero – Zero I wanted to create the archetype of the badass hero movie, a mix of Kurt Russell and Sarah Connor. I created Zero. Because I have had enough of little princesses waiting to be saved. For me, well, the princess gets a grip, she gets on her bike and saves herself!
Execution
The prop modelisation is fairly simple, low-poly with a simple diffuse, hand painted with a Global Illumination on top. 2D hand-animated FX and particle mesh for the smoke.
For textures and the rest of the designs, I had given myself a simple set of instructions: Everything will be drawn using the polygonal lasso in Photoshop. This forced me to keep all figures simple and clear, corresponding to this cold and severe universe.
Game made by friends. I just made sound FX and music.
Video for my 3D scene made with Unreal 4. You’ll have to excuse my version of “Flowers blooming in the church” not being the perfect homage to the original !
