The Day of "ASHURA"
When the Prophet came to Medina, he found the Jews fasting on the day of 'Ashoora' (10th of Muharram). They used to say: "This is a great day on which Allah saved Moses and drowned the folk of Pharaoh. Moses observed the fast on this day, as a sign of gratitude to Allah."
The Prophet said, "I am closer to Moses than they." So, he observed the fast (on that day) & ordered the Muslims to fast on it.

I know I cannot compare to any of your righteous servants. My prayer is not like the prayer of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and my tawakkul not like that of Ibrahim. My forbearance cannot compare to the forgiveness of Yusuf and my certainty in Your promise pales in comparison to his father Yaqoub. But I yearn to be close to You the way they were close to You. I yearn to be one of your special servants, to have such a close relationship with You that You may take me as a friend, the way You have taken Ibrahim as a friend. I know my deeds will never be enough to earn me a special relationship with You, so I call upon You by Your mercy. Have mercy upon me and change me until You love me. Change me until I can be among those You honor with the blessing of looking upon Your beauty in Jannah. Forgive my weakness and strengthen me so that I can commit to being better for You. Allow me to taste the sweetness of having a close relationship with You.
