After refusing to speak about his motivations for writing Misery for two decades, Stephen King finally came out and stated that it is indeed about his battle with substance abuse. Kathy Bates’ character is a representation of his dependency on drugs and what it did to his body - making him feel alone, separated from everything, while hobbling any attempts he made at escape. In his statement, he said he didn’t come out with it at the time because he wasn’t ready and because he was afraid it would detract from the story.

In the Sixth Sense, Haley Joel Osment ad-libbed the famous “I see dead people” line. The line he was supposed to say was “All the kids lookin’ up to me can suck my dick”. M. Night Shyamalan loved the ad-lib so much he kept it in the movie.

Did You Know? The snakeskin jacket Sailor wears in the film was actually Nicolas Cage’s own. Cage asked director David Lynch if he could wear the jacket in the film, as a tribute to Marlon Brando’s role in The Fugitive Kind (1960). After filming was completed, Cage gave his jacket to Laura Dern.

Did You Know? Leonardo DiCaprio was originally going to play Max in "Hocus Pocus" but turned down the role for the film "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". The role of Max was later given to Omri Katz.

Did You Know? After working on "This Boy's Life" with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro was so impressed with young Leo's acting abilities that he told Martin Scorsese about him and used the phrase, "he's really good". Something, that according to Scorsese, rarely came out of De Niro's mouth. Scorsese has since then several times attributed his cinematic relationship with Leo, to the suggestion of De Niro, all of those many years ago. Did You Know? On the DVD commentary track, the actors note that Tim Curry’s characterization of Pennywise was so creepy and realistic that everyone avoided him during the filming.

Did You Know? That the original script for the film Argo began by jumping directly into the protests outside the U.S. Embassy. However, Ben Affleck and Chris Terrio did not want the film to simply be a portrayal of irrationally crazy Middle Easterners; the opening credits/prologue, which details how the U.S. helped install the Shah in power and the Shah's subsequent corruption and brutality, was created so as to make the anger after the Iranian Revolution understandable while not supporting the grossly illegal and immoral hostage-taking at the embassy.

Did You Know? That while Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke are formally given credit for co-writing "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight", it is a little known fact that they were also responsible for rewriting the majority of the script for "Before Sunrise".

The idea however-- for the first movie, "Before Sunrise" came from a night Director Richard Linklater spent walking around Philadelphia with a woman he met named Amy. Contrary to the movie, they stayed in touch for a while, until contact was lost. Linklater never heard from her again (not even when he became a director and released Before Sunrise). It wasn't until years later that he found out that Amy had died in a traffic accident a few years after they had met.

Speaking in the press room backstage, Steve McQueen said of the history of the win: “Obviously, it’s a mark of development. It’s just obviously a progression. The background characters are now in the foreground and their lives are being recognized in a way, more ever than before. I think people are ready for this narrative. People want to look at this history. If we don’t know our past, we’ll never know our future.”

Did You Know? The budget for Dallas Buyers Club was so low that only two-hundred and fifty dollars ($250) was allotted to the makeup department. Amazingly, the film's artists were able to work within that figure, and the film's makeup and hairstyling won an Oscar.

Did You Know? Truman Capote was the original screenwriter for Jack Clayton's 1974 version of The Great Gasby. In his draft, Nick was a homosexual and Jordan Baker a vindictive lesbian. When Capote was fired, Francis Ford Coppola finished his draft in three weeks.

Did You Know? Angelina Jolie was director Alfonso Cuaron's first choice to play Dr. Ryan Stone in Gravity. Angelina ultimately decided not to do it. Warner Brothers then tried to recruit Natalie Portman following her Oscar for 'Black Swan' but the actress was looking for a much needed break (and was pregnant). Finally, Warner Brothers executives and Cuaron set their sights on Sandra Bullock, who was looking for a project that would challenge her and was just coming off an acting hiatus. They wasted no time landing the actress that won an Oscar for 2009's 'The Blind Side'

Did You Know? Abigail Breslin and Chloë Grace Moretz both auditioned for the role of Jean Fordham in August: Osage County. Abigail, who auditioned with a 103 degree fever was able to secure the role.
