@mox-quartz
edh is hilarious because of how wildly different it is from 60 card 1v1. edh players will look at a 2 mana 16/16 and be like "okay but does it have an etb effect tho?". almost all lifegain is unplayable. edh players will pay 30 life for literally any reason. they'll pay life for no reason. edh players will see a card that makes them lose life and go "for free?! fuck yeah!" edh players will see a mouse and go "is anyone gonna eat this?" and not wait for an answer
What’s your favourite stupid combo
CRAB RAVE
If you were to try cycling from the battlefield again like in Urza’s Destiny would it be keyworded?
Probably.
What is Cycling from the battlefield? I'm not super familiar with Urza's Destiny
they’ve already keyworded cycling from the battlefield, or at least converted mana cost fourcycling from the battlefield
don’t fucking buy the extra life secret lair
i am so happy that the nickname “darcy” for dragons rage channeler caught on its so funny
Kaldheim: A Multiverse Microcosm
It’s fascinating that in many ways, the plane of Kaldheim mirrors the order of the Multiverse as a whole.
There are realms with the Cosmos between them, much like planes with the Eternities. Like the Eternities, the Cosmos can only be traveled by specific types of creatures or through specialized portals, are inhabited by barely-fathomable cosmic beings, and spell maddening death for the unwary (or unlucky) traveler.
If we consider Kaldheim a miniature Multiverse, then, looking at the interactions of realms with each other and the Cosmos might give more insight into the behavior of planes.
Take Doomskars… a violent collision of realms in which mana, energy, and creatures pour uncontrollably from both, leaving chaos in their wake. Where have we seen that reflected on the planar level?
Most recently, in Arcavios.
The history of the plane tells of its creation when two planes collided, their opposing colors of mana twisting together to spawn the snarls and the elder dragons. The Rathi Overlay from Dominarian history could also be considered an artificial “Doomskar”-like effect.
Taking this further, it’s not too much of a stretch to consider Sarulf the Realm-Eater a mini-Eldrazi. (Emphasis on “mini” though, as the Cosmos are still planar space. If the Eldrazi were humanoids, Sarulf would be still an ant, and everyone else would be equivalent to the particles of matter that make up their food, more or less.)
My personal headcanon is that the Cosmos, like the Eternities, are suffused with aether, allowing phenomena like realmwalking shapeshifters (a local variant of aetherborn). Unlike the Eternities, the Cosmos can still be traveled by anyone with the right setup, whether that’s an Omenseeker longship or a chance encounter with an Omenpath. Those two things used to have multiversal analogues in planar ships and portals, but they were made nearly impossible after the Mending.
There are some very interesting implications that come with Kaldheim being a microcosm of the Multiverse, and I could see cosmology-savvy Planeswalkers eagerly studying its properties.
so apparently griefblade and death and taxes are like pretty different decks now. which is a shame because i really wanted to play griefblade, but i can’t afford 4x grief, 4x solitude, and a kaldra compleat plus all the bullshit i need for affinity and scales (non negotiable), so no ephemerate shenanigans for quartz :(
actually i don’t think yawgmoth’s will fits into any one color
So I’ve seen a few people talking about this card
And how it’s gonna affect modern, with stoneforge and all that. And I see people saying that it will replace batterskull, as a “big living weapon.”
I don’t think this is a good batterskull replacement, at least in the current mono white Death and Taxes deck (what I play) because one of the most important things batterskull does is it just wins against aggro. I looked at this card and thought “yeah fun living weapon probably not viable.”
But! I have seen some other people say that this could be a maul of the skyclaves replacement. Then you’ll still have your “life gain, card draw, scary threat” as your equipments, but this is a much more potent threat than Maul. I think this is probably the correct take, but it does change how stoneforge is played. This requires more protection to make sure stoneforge can untap. This makes Giver of Runes even more important. Another way to make sure you can untap with stoneforge is to vial it in on end step, but you want to wait until your opponent is tapped out. This might make leaving vial on 2 a better idea, leading to more 2 drops in the deck. (That’s just speculation, though.) and don’t even get me started on possible BW Grief Ephemerate lists or RW lists with Recruiter and Magus of the Moon
yeah I’m gonna start posting here. hopefully maybe
