With the start of summer, the snow at the higher attitudes start melting and many small streams outshine and many of these river systems form the perfect destination for Canyoning. "Canyoning is basically the descent of a river system or a gorge using various techniques and methods. There’s also a lot of swimming, walking and climbing. It’s all of that stuff thrown together. There is no perfect rule for when to put on your microspikes. Maybe you have a thin finger of snow to cross before you get back to trail or rock. Are you and your team fast enough to quickly transition into your gears, cross the slope, then take them off again? Or would it be more efficient to chop steps with your ice ax and build more secure footing?
