[ J & Itotia ] A Familial Bond
With @mpitotia
Walking into the dark club in the middle of the day was something. There had just been pool maintenance, so he planned on staying around for a while just to get himself a bit more used to the place. The darkness within keeps him comfortable and shielded from the sun outside, so it's not even such a bad thing to hang around.
A few hours pass and he still remained, taking a bottle from his office down to the bar to just relax before they have to prepare for the crowd again. Thank fuck for the maintenance because the "pool smell" had been eradicated, and the water had been fully replaced, otherwise, he wouldn't be sitting at one of the stools in the bar at all.
Nearly finishing half the bottle, he finally puts the stopper back on the crystal bottle. He heads behind the bar to clean up after himself, rolling up the sleeves of his button-up shirt before beginning.
If it hadn't been for him rolling his sleeves up, he would have failed to notice the coldness of the shadows slithering across his skin beginning to fade as the shadows now visibly seems to try to move on its own.
He turns to see one of the bartenders coming in and he waves at him as he finishes up in the bar. "Evening. I don't think we've met," he smiles as he wipes his hand dry before extending his hand towards the other. "I'm Jayden, new owner of the club," he says, and it looks as though the shadows from his arms also reach out to the other.
That's new...
Itotia had, of course, heard about the new Vision/Ilusion's owner but hadn't been able to meet him yet. He had been a bit sad to see Sekhmet go, she had been a good boss, but he was curious about her successor. Hopefully, he would be nice and open. What more could he ask for ?
It had been pool maintenance day so Itotia had decided to turn up at the club earlier than usual, to make sure that everything was fine and to do some cleaning if necessary. A short dance session, a nice shower and he was ready for another work night, a big smile on his face as he arrived at Vision.
The bartender immediately noticed the new guy behind the bar and he remained a few steps away, observing him. He was cute and seemed nice enough but what caught his attention the most was the shadow wrapped around his arm, moving on its own will. That was an interesting sight and he could feel a light tingling at the back of his neck.
The young Mayan moved closer when his presence was acknowledged, hodling out his hand for the other. "Hi ! I'm Itotia" he exclaimed, grinning. So that was his mysterious new boss ? "It's nice to finally meet you, Jayden !" His gaze then fell on the shadow and he was surprised to see it move towards him. How curious.
"Hello there, nice to meet you too" Itotia added, chuckling.

At the thought of another drink, she had no clue. Davina, by now, had tried many of the different drinks at the club. She spent nearly every other night here, though she had not been here as much lately with her being busy with other things. So, she took a look at the menu, taking it from him.
"Hmm.." Looking up from the menu, she looked at him once he spoke again. A beaming smile placed on her lips. Itotia was easy company, and his kindness was appreciated by the demigoddess. This was definitely part of his customer service, but she did not believe it all was. "Just a sign of a good bartender, and better friend!" She teases playfully.
She nodded in agreement. There was a lot unseen that the council did. In many ways, she was happy not to know. Davina's felt safe on the island, and she did not dare to have that mindset changed. Avoiding some crazy demigods, that just typically took some awareness. But, she did not know what else might be out there that only a god could handle. "Very true. Though, often, it definitely still feels complicated. But, that is a good point. Not like you will get in trouble for asking."
Putting the menu down, she finally had an idea of what she wanted. "You do not have to cover my drink! I am just happy to have a new friend. But, I think I want a strawberry margarita, if possible!"
So maybe it would be time to renew the menu ? Itotia had a lot of ideas when it came to cocktails and maybe he should give some suggestions to his boss. Maybe some more seasonal drinks would be a good idea, to put people in a festive and happy mood.
The young man smiled back. He truly hadn't seen the time pass in the company of Davina and more patrons had arrived. His colleague for the night had just started his service too so they still had some time to chat and enjoy each other's company. "Well, thank you ! I'm glad that you appreciate my efforts." He winked, showing that he was joking and that this interaction was more than a part of his job.
Like many, Itotia had at least heard of the forest and he stayed away from it as much as he could. He might not be afraid of the dark and of ghostly presences around him (like his father had once been) but he knew better than to try his luck. Like Davina, he felt safe on the island, even more since he had reconnected with Mingi.
"Strawberry margarita it is !" Itotia exclaimed, grinning and starting to prepare his ingredients. "If you want, we could go to have lunch or dinner together once ? You know, getting to know each other out of work hours."
Mingi had participated in some of the events himself, though to a slightly lesser extent as he'd been a bit busy on the side. With everything that had gone on in the past and the now redhead's current determination to make up for his cowardice from before... of course his response to Itotia's invite had been an immediate yes.
He had no plans of denying the other male anything, if it was within the realms of Mingi's ability to do so-- of course he would do it.
Plus... he'd been thinking about something for a while. He didn't know what situation would allow him to bring it up... but if the chance arouse he would ask about it. (He half expected a refusal but an acceptance was within the realms of possibility-- so it was something he'd bring up eventually when the time was right.)
Thoughts aside, Mingi focused on the current situation. Which was a cute ex turned tentative friend(?) or whatever they could call themselves at this point of time. The outfit suited the darkness demigod and Mingi couldn't help the small smile that shifted over his lips at the sight.
He nodded when the other spoke up, squeezing his hand back before his gaze shifted to take in the cold tinted cheeks and he rose his other hand to try and help warm the other up a bit. He let heat fill his palm, gently pressing the hand against each of Itotia's cheeks for a few moments to chase the chill of the day away from them.
"Hope this is okay, you look a bit cold so I thought this might help a bit." He stated lightly before adding. "I did! and of course I'd agree. Even if we're still awkward about a lot of things, I'm not gonna tell you 'no' if you wanna do stuff with me, Totia. I was happy, and I still am."
It was a shame that Mingi and his own schedules didn't always align. One was working during the day, the other at night and it sometimes was a bit hard to meet out of their time off. So Itotia had been overjoyed when the other had accepted his invitation. He couldn't dream of seeing the fireworks with someone else.
They had cleared a lot of their issues but there was still some awkwardness between them. Sometimes, the dancer even thought that he shouldn't insist and let Mingi live his own life, make his own choices. He had wasted his chance at keeping the fighter in his world, did he have a right on his time ?
"I really like your hair" Itotia commented, touching the bright red strands. He had helped Mingi to color it a few days ago and the experience had been quite fun and relaxed. It was the kind of moments between them that he loved, without stress and unsaid words. "You look really great tonight."
Well, Mingi always looked and smelled nice and everything, making it very hard for the dancer to resist touching and kissing him. So when the other placed his hands on his cheeks, it took all of Itotia's will to not lean in the touch, to rub against the warm palms on his skin. A very useful power though, a living heater.
"Y-yes... Thank you, I feel better" Itotia whispered. His cheeks were still red but it wasn't because of the cold anymore. He looked into Mingi's eyes, his own dark like the night but stars still shining in them. "I'm happy too." Now well warmed up, the son of Akbul took the other's hand in his, pulling him in the stands' direction.
"We still have some time before the fireworks. What would you like to do until then ?"
Liu Wei felt his body grow ridged once he felt his blond locks be brushed away from his face, leaving him to blink up into the eyes of the man helping him stand. It was obvious to anyone with a pair of working eyes he was not used to it and looked even more disoriented because of it, leaving him to quickly look away. What he did not need right now was someone to see his stormy grey eyes and feel discomfort.
The way Itotia moved to help him, the caring touches and thoughtful gestures seemed to push the slender figure into even more of a dazed state. Only slowly did he find his footing once they rose up to stand, leaving him to lean heavily onto the other and he only hoped the man did not mind. Support of such nature was so uncommon in his life, an usually unknown need for it blossomed in his chest and left him near breathless at first. Luckily it was easy to pass it off from standing up again, not him craving such affection and having been starved of it for years.
"Sitting down as I hate hospitals. I will find a place to eat once I am better," he spoke, small pauses between his words as Liu Wei tried to find the strength in his legs to stand on his own. Getting carried away only caused him issues, which meant he needed to be even more critical about his actions and results.
Itotia met the other's eyes, just for a few seconds, but it was a look he wouldn't be able to forget so easily. Stormy eyes diving into his own dark ones before looking away. The boy had pretty eyes though, a rare color full of wisdom and tempest. Mingi's would always be his favorite but the young man's was already leaving quite an impression.
Itotia didn't mind. He could seem superficial but he was always ready to help people, even the one he didn't know. It wasn't like him to pass by someone having difficulties in the streets. Now that the boy seemed to have found some balance back, the dancer moved them away the middle of the street to avoid any more problems.
"There's a nice coffee shop just a few meters from here" Itotia explained, carefully guiding the other in the right direction. "We'll sit down and then you can drink and eat." It took a few minutes for them to reach the café and the son of Akbul settled his companion in a comfortable booth in a discreet corner.
"Stay there, I'm going to get you water" the dancer announced before disappearing towards the counter. He quickly was back, pushing a glass towards the other. "I'm Itotia. What about you ?"
when vitas signed for him that itotia had mentioned that they look dashing, xianjun turned to shoot itotia a bashful smile - unsure how else to respond to the compliment. a little bit of pink dusted his cheekbones and the beekeeper quickly turned away because he didn't know how to deal with compliments that were centred around his appearance. as xianjun looked away, he did catch the motion vitas made with his hand which resulted in xianjun promptly raising a hand to flatten his unruly hair a bit, the pink on his cheeks deepening slightly. dashing huh? not with his hair!
his friend once again stopped xianjun in his tracks when he had misinterpreted itotia's words and the demigod simply stared wide-eyed as he watched the interaction between itotia and vitas, peeking his friend's hands in sight as he read what was being said. and if the boys would peek at xianjun during their conversation, they would notice that xianjun's expressions were quite open and honest. the man beamed when itotia complimented his food, which was one of his passions. xianjun loved to cook for other people, and the compliment regarding how his food looked was not nearly as embarrassing as compliments about xianjun's person.
when itotia fully turned towards him, xianjun's gaze fell down the man's lips automatically, and he nodded along to indicate that he had understood. itotia then apologised, to which xianjun immediately shook his head because that wasn't needed. the demigod returned the wink playfully before turning towards the fridge when it appeared that itotia wasn't going to speak anymore. however, while itotia contemplated the question, xianjun had managed to take out the juice bottles still in the fridge and had turned back right when he noticed his friend's lips move again.
the name of the cocktail was a bit more difficult to make out but if xianjun had read correctly, then he understood what itotia was planning to make and he felt very appreciative of his friend being willing to make a hong kong originated cocktail for them. while xianjun had never had the drink himself, he had read about it one day as he was browsing recipes online. being as clumsy as xianjun was, the demigod wouldn't dare to make and drink an alcoholic beverage all by himself. who knows what he'd end up destroying in his apartment!
xianjun put the bottles down on the island and moved around it, practically shoving a thumbs up into itotia's face before he took some of the food platters into his hands. he made a jerky motion towards the living room, to let his two buddies know he would be placing the food on the coffee table. not the dining table, because he figured they would be spending time in the living room while drinking. xianjun then disappeared from sight and the next few minutes, the demigod ignored the other two as he made quick work carrying the food to the living room and making the coffee table look neat and placing chopsticks where he thought they would be easily found. the demigod also made sure not to forget paper napkins and also placed them onto the table before he moved back to the kitchen, smiling proudly and excitedly.
The reaction Xianjun had toward being told he looked dashing was something that Vitas stored away for future references; not that he could ever forget that response, nor did he really understand why the beekeeper would have a reaction like that, but it was something would ask his friend later; why he had looked so flustered at a compliment yet also smile, why he would blush at something like that.
Nevertheless, he was more than willing to also translate the compliments Itotia had toward how the food looks and smelled, the enthusiasm expressed toward wanting taste everything, but remaining unaware that the bartender thought his movements were anything like dancing. Vitas knew he had somewhat of an advantage in those respects, however; his muscles recalled every movement so it came just as naturally to him as breathing. He not only studied language so he could learn everything he possibly could, but also so he could impart that knowledge unto others; he could not share his own knowledge if the recipients could not understand him; he had no qualms against teaching others the methods so their own communication and learning would not be hindered by a language barrier.
However, the dancer's offer to teach them how to either dance or mix in return elicited a brief pause in Vitas--both in his speech and the movement of his own hands. He was…actually considering it. He knew how clumsy Xianjun could be, but perhaps learning to dance could help a bit with the beekeeper's balance. If he could feel--or see--the beat, then he should be able to learn.
"Xianjun may benefit from dance lessons, but I cannot make that decision for him," he admitted, signing along with his statement. As for Vitas…
"Your offer is appreciated. Mixology is interesting so it may be a fair exchange," he continued. After all, that had been what sparked his curiosity for…socializing this evening; partially as an experiment in friendship, and partially to observe the bartender's skills. "I already know how to dance," he added. Did he know every dance in the world? Of course not. But he knew most of the classic and modern styles; his stamina, however, was not up to par with someone like Itotia who was so physically active on a regular basis; he was working on this, though, within his own capability.
One thing he did understand, however, was a possible misinterpretation and he appreciated that Itotia clarified what he had meant with the juice, Vitas more than willing to translate and clarify any miscommunications between the pair. When that was cleared up, he nodded and relayed the cocktail choice to his friend who seemed agreeable to this decision judging by the rather animated and literal in-your-face thumbs up.
"…he approves," he echoed quietly--not that Itotia needed Vitas to translate considering the message had been rather obvious. Nevertheless, the archivist did become quiet for a bit as he watched his friend move about setting up the living room to set up the coffee table for eating rather than the counter or table. Now, Vitas understood that it was common for people to eat in their dens as opposed to the dining room or kitchen, but it had not been how he was raised and since befriending the beekeeper, this was a custom to which he was still adjusting. For the sake of socializing--for the sake of friendship--he had to consciously push the thoughts of potential messes out of his brain in favor of a distraction. Thus, he motion toward the counter of juices and spirits. "May I observe your work?" he asked of the bartender.

Accepting compliments was never easy, even more difficult from some people than others, especially when it came to physical appearance. So Itotia didn't take it back that Vitas and Xianjun didn't really answer to his praise. He just wanted them to know they looked awesome, nothing more. Xianjun was simply adorable and his friend only wanted for him to understand that.
Itotia was always eager to learn new things. And, in his own opinion, he was quite a good student. He had always surprised his dance teachers with his innate talent, inherited from his mother without any doubt. He was very good with things that called for muscles memories and he was ready to do anything to make Xianjun's life easier. And learning from someone he knew and appreciated would make things even better and meaningful.
Oh, the dancer could agree with that ! Learning to get a good balance would probably help Xianjun and he had seen deaf dancers before. They didn't hear the music but could feel the rhythm and it was always fascinating to watch them evolve on stage. After all, Beethoven composed some of his masterpieces without being able to hear so anything was possible. "Exactly ! I will propose him to come with me to one of my sessions once. You're welcome too. I'm currently working on a new choreogrpahy."
Itotia smiled as Xianjun's thumb up appeared in front of him, watching the young man happily bringing the food to the living room and the coffee table. It was a good idea, they would be more comfortable there. So he took the kitchen trolley he kept nearby, carefully settling the bottles on it as he nodded at Vitas' answer. "Perfect ! Tell me when you have time, I'm free every afternoon and early night when I work. And I'd like to see you dance then" he added with a huge grin.
"Let's go then ! And I'm going to let you both see my work. You know, like in Cocktail ? So it's better if we're all in the living room." The Mayan's smile didn't leave his lips as he pushed his trolley to the living room before inviting his guests to sit down before sitting on the floor near his cart and the coffee table. "For now, we're going to put cinnamon on the glasses' rims" Itotia explained, pressing a lemon before putting some grounded cinnamon in a small plate. One after the other, he took the glasses, soaking the borders in the lemon juice and then rolling them in the spice. He looked up once he was done, making sure than Xianjun could read his lips. "Do you guys want lots of alcohol or a moderate quantity to start the evening ?"
@xianjunmp - @vitasmp
Davina was easy to please, and she took a few more sips of the drink with no issue. While there was most definitely the slight burn of alcohol down her throat, months of partying had gotten her rather used to the sensation. So now, the only issue ever came with the taste, and so far, she had found most drinks to be palatable, just like the one the demigod had made for her.
She grinned when the other wrote in his notebook. What a sweet action! Davina had no expectations of them to even truly remember her after this encounter. The extra effort did not go unappreciated. Maybe, they did have a chance to be more than just bartender and customer, or he was just really good at his customer service. "Thank you so much. Really!"
There was definitely a lot the island needed to do to make the place just bit safer. For a place of magical powers, she expected a bit more care in security. However, so far, she did not find herself in any kind of danger. "I wonder if the Council will actually do something? I know they do events for the town, but what else do they even do?" Setting her drink down, she propped her head up on her hand as she watched him.
"I just have a feeling! And, I'm typically right!" She was absolutely not. "Good people just have that vibe, and I know we both have that!"
Easy clients were the best, even if Itotia liked a good challenge from time to time. As she drank, he observed her expressions. She looked satisfied with her choice and it made him happy. Appreciating alcohol was a journey and it seemed that Davina was on the right path. "Do you already have an idea about what you want to taste next ?" he asked, pushing the cocktails menu towards her.
He smiled as he wrote a few words on the fresh page. He wasn't doing that for everyone, only for the best and most regular clients. Anything to make people happy. That meant more beverages to sell for the business and more tips for him. Which was always a good thing. "There's no problem !" He grinned, closing his notebook and putting it back in his pocket.
Or maybe there wasn't a better security because people had powers ? His own were quite useful in dangerous situations, as he could easily disappear in the dark. But not every demigods had that advantage and they deserved to be safe. "Mm... They do a lot of things I guess or else our life here would be way more complicated Itotia answered. It costs nothing to ask anyway."
The bartender chuckled at that. "I like your way to think, Davina. And I trust you on that ! To celebrate our new friendship, your next drink will be on me."
Friends were certainly not something to which Vitas was accustomed; in fact, Xianjun was his very first, and this had been the first time he had ever admitted it out loud, let alone to someone else; navigating the waters of friendship was still a very new experience and he still had much to learn, but he had a very good teacher.
He did not expect his admission, however, to elicit at response like that from the guy sitting next to him. It seemed the beekeeper made friends easily. Was it...good? Was it good that he was friends with Xianjun? It was...wasn't it?
Good for whom, though?
His eyes opened slightly, gaze turning to the side to watch the stranger with a heavy half-lidded stare as he mentioned the 'friend of a friend' quote. "Hm." A soft sound resonating in his throat. "That is a thing they say." He shifted his focus to the bee sculpture once more.
A definitive blink accompanied the praise again toward his snow art and though his face remained a stoic mask, that small flicker of warmth remained behind his gaze; no smile reached his lips, as though the muscles were quite unused to the action, but it was there in his eyes, that little bit of life in an otherwise cold exterior and demeanor. He just nodded once to the compliments and let it be.
So this was one of Xianjun's neighbors, too? "Oh really?" he asked with dry curiosity. "And who are you?" he asked, having not yet received a name. "Do you also know Taavi?" he asked, curious if this fellow also knew the baker that Vitas had met prior to the new year. Vitas personally had not met all of his own pantheon residing in his apartment building, but he was interested to learn if the other pantheons were more sociable. So far, every Mayan demigod he had met had been quite...quite...friendly.
If Itotia could know about Xianjun being Vitas' first friend, he would be delighted. The other Mayan demigod was such a ray of sunshine, so gentle and lovely that it was the best person to have around. Hopefully, Vitas would see the happiness someone like Xianjun could bring into his life.
Being ready to try was great already. And it was good for the both of them. Having friends and learning from each other could only be positive.
"That's not always correct though" Itotia commented, reaching for the peanut protein bar between the and slowly opening it. "But you seem interesting. I wouldn't mind getting to know you better." He turned to the other, offering a gentle smile before starting to chew on his bar. It was quite delicious.
The Mayan demigod wasn't sure if what he saw in Vitas' eyes were thankfulness or pride but it was nice to see some emotions on his unmoving, though handsome, face. He didn't mind though, a closed face wasn't a reason to dislike someone. On the contrary, it intrigued him.
"Yes ! I'm Itotia, nice to meet you !" The son of Akbul did a mental check of all his neighbors but that Taavi guy wasn't one of them. Was it the same boy that Mingi had mentioned in passing ? "No, he doesn't live at the apartments." He would know, everyone for so welcoming and caring for the others at the Huay Chivo building.
"What about you ?"
Exhaustion, it had to be exhaustion. Of course overextending himself with the use of his powers was not the wisest move - he learned that at the age of 8. However it had to be the move and stress of his family that caused his body to be so weak in response. Never before had he felt such a dizziness that his head felt like it was being screwed off his head, leaving like nausea was a happy companion to this moment. Liu Wei was not going to throw up, he refused to do so in general and especially in front of a stranger.
Letting out a strained sound, he slowly raised his head to figure out into whom he bumped into even if the stormy eyed man didn't know anyone here. The mans face swam in and out of focus, leaving Liu Wei to blink his grey eyes before head dropped again - that move was not the best for him. Everything spun even faster now, the ground tilting at inhumane angles and he was about to pass out, at least that was the feeling in his gut.
"Help me?" Liu Wei in all his life had asked for help in such a geniune way about ten times and it felt too raw for him. Being so open about needing support seemed so wrong to him at first until something within him reasoned it was normal. Wherever that voice came from was a source that should be silenced once he could stand on his feet again.
Overuse of powers could be dangerous, emptying oneself of their energy, of their will. Itotia had never tried to push himself that much, preferring to keep his mind san than pushing himself in things that he wasn't sure to be able to control. And control was part of him, something a dancer could never truly get out of their body.
Of course, he couldn't know what was exactly happening to the young man but he was there if his help was needed.
Itotia sat on the ground, pulling the other into his arms. Very gently, he pushed a few blond strands out of the young man's face and smiled as their eyes met. He didn't care about the people walking around him, casting curious glances at them.
The dancer felt his heart break a little at the very sincere call for help. Yes, don't worry, he whispered, he wasn't going to let the boy down. He got up, slowly and carefully lifting the other, sliding his arm around his chest to hold him better. "Should I bring you to the hospital ?" he asked, genuinely worried. "Or you want to sit down somewhere? I could get you water."
Davina kept her hand happily on her drink as he spoke. She giggled softly, shaking her head. She had only been honest. Anything else, she thought was a stretch. However, she did like the idea of a bartender out to make her the best drinks. "Not at all! But, I really appreciate you looking out for me."
So, she took another sip. It was a better the more that she drank it. Davina had some rather nasty concoctions in her journey to become more knowledgeable of the varying liquors and drinks out there. This was definitely in her top drinks so far, but she would only be willing to get it if Itotia was the one to make it. She could see where it would be too sour for her if made normal.
"It would be better than the taxis. They are so pricey sometimes. Plus, I swear they find the worst roads to drive us back on. Last time, I was sick in the back seat, and he tried to blame me! Um, how about taking the bumps at a slow speed, sir. There does not seem to be a fool proof solution yet." Davina chatters to the man in a mix of consideration and complaint. Happily, she reached out to take his hand as well. "The pleasure is all mine! And, of course. So, I see a great future for us!"
Itotia was always very careful about making the best drinks possible for his clients. He had gotten lost of tips this way and it always was a nice bonus to bring home at the end of the night. But for Davina, he would pour all his heart into her cocktails. Someone so nice deserved the nicest treatment.
It was clear that Davina enjoyed her drink so Itotia took the small notebook he always had on him and started a new chapter for the young woman. I'm going to write down the measurements I use so I can make it exactly the same for you each time. He wouldn't do that for anyon (in fact the notebook was full of Mingi's favorite drinks)
"I know, right ? I think they just want us to pay more so they take advantage of people being drunk or sick to take other roads. But count on me, I'll write to the Council." Itotia didn't mind the random chatter at all, it was quite nice. Besides, they didn't know each other yet so more personal subjects could wait. "Oh, do you ? Care to tell me more about it ?"
龙年大吉
xianjun enjoyes giving gifts, especially when they were food related. for itotia, he had prepared two gifts to celebrate the auspicious new year. on saturday the 10th, itotia would find on his doorstep two boxes. one held a segmented porcelain platter, which comes apart so guests can remove their favorite dish for serving. each sectioned bowl is decorated with gold accents and designs that bring good luck and fortune. the second box was an assortment chocolates from see’s candies. the festive box was wrapped with a red ribbon and features an assortment of 26 favourites, such as the dark caramel patties, milk rum nougat, milk coconut cream, and milk california brittle chocolates. a note with the gifts in xianjun’s checken handwriting ( in hangul! ) wishes itotia a happy new year of the dragon.
Oh. Itotia was quite excited when he found the gifts after his dance session, hurrying inside his apartment to open them. His eyes widened as he discovered the beautiful platter and the delicious looking chocolate. He immediately filled the different bowls with fruits, candies and salty crackers before placing it on the coffee table. If everything went well, maybe he could share the chocolate with Mingi after the night’s fireworks.
A thank you note was quickly but carefully written and slid under Xianjun so he could find it when coming home.
being as oblivious as he was, xianjun had no idea of vitas' fixation on the colour red in his sweater and if he had known, then it also wouldn't have bothered xianjun. in fact, the beekeeper was more likely to wear more red-coloured clothing since the colour pleased his friend so much. xianjun didn't know whether feeling and thinking such things were normal or not when it came to a friend. all he knew was that vitas was his friend and he wanted to keep him as comfortable as he could.
xianjun looked up when he noticed someone approach from his peripheral vision and he shot vitas a sweet smile before he reached out to the containers vitas had just placed on the island. xianjun's hair was slightly out of place from when the two of them had left the apartment, courtesy of itotia's ruffling. when vitas started signing, xianjun's attention was automatically caught - for a brief moment though because the bee boy soon realised vitas was explaining what they had brought. so xianjun tuned out, but he was immensely grateful to vitas for translating.
reaching out towards a cupboard, xianjun peeked inside for some bowls and plates to put the food assortment on. he was now so familiar with itotia's place that he was able to figure out where his friend had stored all the plates and kitchen utensils. he did it with such ease too, but that may have something to do with the fact that xianjun was very practised in the kitchen and also loved being there. food wasn't only his love language, it was also a way of life to him - a hobby he loved doing.
itotia's apartment looked absolutely lovely this evening and xianjun appreciated the soft lights, so they wouldn't cause his eyes to tire. the tall demigod figured that, while the party would be fun, he may also become more tired easily as he had to keep up with the communication tactics between the three of them. but who knows, maybe tonight would be a breeze and xianjun would leave deep in the night, feeling the same excited buzz he was currently feeling.
once xianjun had grabbed what he needed and filled the plates and bows, he stacked the containers and turned to face his friend. that's when he caught they were talking about the drinks. xianjun beamed at itotia before signing. 'what do you recommend for us first? i have never had cocktails before.' then, xianjun reached for the juices, intent to put them in the fridge as itotia had asked.

Vitas could appreciate Itotia's attempts at making the place welcoming--if he had known such lengths were made; being his first time in the apartment, he just assumed this was its natural state (well, aside from the smorgasbord of spirits and condiments on the counter, of course). There were no vibrant colors or bright lights to overstimulate his vision; instead, the dancer's abode was a tolerable level of static with the occasional quiet squelch when it came to a pop of color such as a lemon or a cherry.
He did not acknowledge being called 'dashing', however--instead, he looked to see if the beekeeper had caught the comment and--after the sweet smile he received--it seemed his friend had not, so Vitas quickly signed for him: He says we look dashing. He paused, then lifted his hand to make a smoothing motion over the top of his head to indicate to the beekeeper that his hair was a bit mussed before returning his attention to the bartender and signing the dishes Xianjun had prepared.
However, when asked if he would teach Itotia to sign, Vitas replied without missing a beat, continuing to sign everything they said regardless of who was speaking to whom. "Of course. Prior to coming to Mount Phoenix, I was an interpreter for Bifrost University as well as a language tutor," he explained. He could have asked if the dancer wanted to learn KSL along with him and Xianjun, but he did not since Itotia had expressed he wanted to make it as easy as possible for the beekeeper to understand him. "You would also be learning Mandarin in the process. So…bonus."
The only times Vitas was not signing was when Xianjun did, his hands still while his friend's moved, and each time Xianjun's hands spoke, the archivist's mouth translated for him. When he wasn't interpreting, though, he did note how familiar Xianjun was with the bartender's kitchen. But when Xianjun reached for the juices that were already out, Vitas motioned for him to stop, having used his own power of deduction, and signed as he spoke to Itotia. "Did you mean to put these juices away? Or to take out juices that are still in the fridge?" As someone who took things quite literally at times, he also knew there were some statements with double meaning that could cause confusion. Either way, as the archivist's own hands were busy, he did not move to assist with putting things away or taking them out. "With regard to cocktails, as Xianjun has never had them before, what would you recommend for a first-timer?"

Itotia's apartment indeed looked that way pretty much all of the time. Neutral colors and low lights to not attack his delicate eyes. The touches of brighter colors came from a couple of cushions on the sofa and, as Vitas had noticed, the food on the kitchen's island. Even his plates and ustensils were of a soft cream color. It could seem boring to a lot of people but the dancer felt safe in this environment, the quietness of the decor calming his more extrovert personality.
Any other person would feel excluded by the continuous conversation Xianjun and Vitas seemed to have but Itotia wasn't like that. He was glad that the two other boys had found each other, that they had become close in no time. In his opinion, they both needed friends and though he didn't know them since long, he only wanted them to be happy.
And when he truly understood that Vitas was signing even when it was only them conversing, his admiration for the young man got up a notch. That was what dedication and friendship were and it made him want to learn the language even more. Anything to make Xianjun's life easier.
"It looks delicious !" the bartender said, looking at all the food neatly packed. "You guys did an awesome work, I can't wait to taste everything !"
Vitas was definitely full of surprises. Itotia nodded at his explanations. How comes someone so young could have accomplished so much already ? He didn't look like but that boy was truly a force of nature. "I would absolutely love that ! I don't have many talents but I could teach you dance or mixology in exchange ? I could teach to the both of you" he added, his gaze turning towards Xianjun who was carefully plating the food.
Itotia's smile never seemed to want to leave his face as he watched his two friends, his eyes following their hands movements as best as they could. It was truly amazing to see them fly so quickly and to know that they were forming words and sentences that allowed them to all talk together. He was extremely thankful for Vitas for translating everything.
"Oh, take out the ones still in the fridge !" He turned to Xianjun, facing him fully so the other could read on his lips. "I'm sorry, I expressed myself badly" he apologized with a wink. He considered the question, turning back to look at the ingredients. "I can make any cocktail as light as possible but I think we could start with a Ribston Apple."

when vitas had texted him that he and xianjun had been invited over to itotia's for their own little private lny celebration - a cocktail party - he had been buzzing with excitement. xianjun had never been personally invited to a party, not even by high school acquaintances, so to say that xianjun was looking forward to the party was a huge understatement. immediately, the beekeeper started to think of snacks he could make for the evening at itotia's place. but first, he wanted to be absolutely sure that itotia also wanted him there, because xianjun had a feeling that vitas invited him because the norse demigod was uncomfortable with private company. xianjun rarely saw his friends with anyone else, and he knew that he had somewhat become a shield for vitas. a duty he happily fulfilled, but still, xianjun wanted to be absolutely sure that his company was also welcomed.
he hadn't needed to worry, because itotia soon confirmed that yes, xianjun was invited and in fact, his friend wanted him there. the feeling he got then was one of warmth and happiness and the tall demigod quickly ran around to start preparations. first another text to vitas saying he could come to his place early if he wanted and then xianjun raced to the kitchen to make food. vitas showed up not too long after that with the purchases from ambrosia foods and they were placed near the other half of the ingredients which xianjun still had in his kitchen cabinets.
ghost loved vitas, and paid the apathetic demigod a lot of attention. the two of them seemed to vibe perfectly, and that made xianjun happy. after having seen ghost's behaviour towards yingyue the other day, xianjun had begun to feel worried that perhaps ghost was starting to become nervous with his friends coming in and out of the apartment. but the beekeeper was relieved to find out that wasn't the case. though he still didn't know what had made ghost react so strongly towards yingyue... that was a question he'd have to find the answer to later. not now. now xianjun's focus was fully on food and once he had prepared everything, the evening was already setting and xianjun shot vitas a big smile, once again feeling the buzz of excitement thrumming through his veins.
ghost remained in vitas' arms while xianjun took a quick shower, and then got dressed in a white dress shirt, a long sweater and tried fixing his hair a bit afterwards. pulling on some comfortable dark grey trousers, xianjun then exited his bedroom and gave the ok sign to vitas. ghost jumped out of the guy's arms and promptly left, crawling underneath xianjun's coffee table which was ghost's favourite spot in the whole house. after both vitas and xianjun had packed the food, they carried them out and made their way to the end of the hallway where itotia lived.
upon seeing his friend, xianjun immediately smiled and and wrapped his arms tight around itotia. the bee boy couldn't help but let out the tiniest happy sound, one he seemed to often make when he saw itotia. the hug was brief though, because he wasn't alone and he had expected itotia to also hug vitas but when that didn't happen, xianjun simply blinked before shrugging it off. actually, vitas also had never hugged him. xianjun kicked off his sneakers once he was inside and continued his way into the apartment on socked feet.
having not read itotia's question after the welcome, xianjun didn't respond and simply moved towards the kitchen, intent on bringing the food where it belonged. his eyes grew wide as saucers when he saw the collection of spirits and other alcoholic beverages and he quickly turned around, peeking his head out of the kitchen to grin brightly at itotia, winking, and then disappeared again to place the containers of food that he had carried carefully on the counter next to the bottles.
Oddly enough, Vitas did tend to get along much better with animals than with people and Ghost was a prime example of that; but then, he also didn't know the cat didn't particularly care for certain other individuals or, truly, it would make him question quite a lot of things. Regardless, he certainly had no objections to holding and petting the feline while Xianjun was busy showering and dressing, hands fixated on the soft fur while his gaze watched the mantis wander around its terrarium. Once his arms were alleviated of the animal, he dusted his hands down the front of his sweater and sleeves to brush away loose furs. Upon seeing what his friend had chosen to wear, Vitas stared for a long moment in quiet observation, the color upon the beekeeper's shoulders creating a warm buzz in the back of his mind--but he made no comment on it. It just kept his gaze upward for a little while longer, though ultimately returning to the center of Xianjun's chest to focus on the signs.
Itotia's apartment was a new place bringing new experiences to his senses as the door opened. Hugs were...not something he did, it was true. When the others embraced each other in both arms and smiles, Vitas did not feel left out; instead, he stood quiet and watched, significantly muted compared to the two friends as he just...took everything in--the colors Itotia wore, the smells and lights of his apartment, the acoustics of the space, how the small sound that Xianjun made carried, how there was music.
All these things were noted and stored away once ushered inside to enter, though perhaps Vitas just narrowly avoided being physically pushed inside. Once the door was closed, however, he habitually stepped out of his shoes and used his toes--covered by thick fabric of black socks--to tap his shoes neatly against the wall and out of the way before moving to the island. Once he set the containers of seeds and nuts down, he took to responding to Itotia's question, signing in CSL as he spoke in Korean to explain the different dishes Xianjun had prepared. Though they had been practicing KSL, the beekeeper was not quite fluent yet after only a few weeks of study, and since they were in friendly company, Vitas made the call to keep his interpreting to the most familiar language for his companion to keep him fully included on their conversations. Even if Xianjun was occupied with other things, he would continue to sign out of habit, even when Itotia spoke, clearly falling into the role of interpreter like it was second nature, coming as easily as breathing to the archivist. Because it wasn't just about Xianjun understanding what Vitas and Itotia were saying, but it was also a consideration for Xianjun not having to struggle with another device all the time and having what he said translated accurately on the spot. When he was finished explaining, he continued to sign while glancing to the variety of bottles, fruits, and condiments on the island.
"That is quite an assortment of ingredients. What is on the mixology menu?"
@mpitotia @xianjunmp
Surprisingly, especially as they lived so close to each other, Itotia had not met Ghost yet. He had seen pictures and videos of the pretty feline and he was quite impatient to get to know him. But he knew better than insist about this, not wanting to put any pressure on Xianjun's shoulders. It would happen when it would happen. That evening was for fun, not to be petty about who knew the cat or not.
Itotia had made sure that his apartment was comfortable and welcoming. Beige, brown and white tones gave it a warm atmosphere, enhanced by cosy furnitures and lamps with soft, golden lights. A big wood bookshelf was almost taking a whole wall, books mixed with picture frames of family and friends or even dance shows. The dancer only hoped that his guests , mostly Vitas as Xianjun already knew the place, would feel at ease.
The dancer smiled at Xianjun's happy sound, it always was amazing for him to hear a bit of his friend's voice. He grinned, ruffling the other's hair before offered two pairs of spare slippers. You guys look dashing he commented, taking in the two boys' outfits as he followed them inside the apartment. He let them look around as much as they wanted.
As Vitas told him about the different dishes, Itotia couldn't help but to watch his hands as the young man signed for Xianjun. The moves of his fingers were like a dance, full of rhytm and precision. He knew the archivist was smart but he hadn't expected him to know CSL. "Would you teach me ? he asked when the other was done, enthusiasm clear in his voice. I'd like to make it as easy as possible for Xianjun to understand me. I don't want him to always have to make efforts to understand me." The dancer smiled as he watched the Bee Boy nearby before turning back to Vitas.
"Mm... There's really no menu. You guys ask what you want and I prepare it. Help me get the juices in the fridge, ok ?"

heart full of fireworks - closed

So far, Itotia had enjoyed all the Lunar New Year's celebration he had taken part of. He had tried almost every stand and contests, even winning a prize at the Galaxy Games' scavenger hunt. A cute little rabbit plushie and, oh, surprise, it was his Chinese zodiac sign. It now was settled on his bookshelves, between family or dance shows pictures.
But there was one thing that he truly didn't want to experience alone and it was the fireworks. So he put his big boy pants up and asked Mingi if he would be willing to spend the evening with him, which the other immediately accepted. They were seeing each other regularly and though they were talking a lot about their issues, Itotia still couldn't get over his feelings, his constant desire for his... whatever Mingi was for him.
They met at the entrance of the park, Itotia well bundled in a warm winter outfit, his cheeks tainted of pink by the cold. He smiled when the other approached, his heart beating a bit too fast in his chest and he reached to grab Mingi's hand.
"Hi ! Did you have a good day ?" he asked, squeezing the fighter's fingers. "I'm glad you accepted to come with me tonight."

Socializing in an informal capacity was still new to Vitas--the concept of having FRIENDS was still new to Vitas. But Xianjun was his teacher and Vitas was his student, so he was...trying his best. Mingling over drinks--'hanging out'--was...a thing that friends did together, so here he was. After texting the beekeeper the extended invitation, a three-way conversation was initiated and details were aligned. The place, the time, who would bring what, and when the evening arrived Vitas did his part by purchasing the ingredients from Ambrosia Foods and bringing them to Xianjun to be transformed into delicious snacks. Though he did help in the preparation where he could, Vitas mostly remained off to the side, watching as he habitually pet the cat in his arms--which had, honestly, become the norm for him each time he visited the beekeeper. Instant Ghost pets; soft fur appreciation. Yes. And stray hairs were less evident thanks to the cream sweater he had chosen. He did instinctively help with clean up, however, once Xianjun had finished.
The cat should probably stay in the beekeeper's apartment, however; who knows what sort of shenanigans a trio of drunk demigods could get into? Doors could be left open, felines could escape! So with a polite farewell to Ghost, the pair set off down the hall to Itotia's apartment.
The menu was overall fairly simple, but laden with carbohydrates; Vitas at least had the foresight to determine that, if they were to be drinking, then the food should be something to help soak up the alcohol. A few simple things: nian gao for the season and polo buns sweetened with honey (of course), shaobing with a few different fillings all conveniently tucked away in a tiered carrier, as well as separate containers of roasted and lightly-salted sunflower seeds and pine nuts. The latter being in the archivist's position, he tucked the containers to his chest with one arm while he lifted his other to knock upon Itotia's door with three sharp raps.
Itotia could hardly keep his excitement in check after it was decided for Xianjun, Vitas and himself to meet in the evening for a little cocktails party. The Bee Boy and him were good friends already and even if the archivist seemed intimidating and closed off, the dancer kept hope that they could build a nice relationship. He already admired the Norse demigod anyway and as he had said, Xianjun's friends were his too.
Work had been very busy so after a quick nap, Itotia rushed to the nearest liquor sore to refill his booze stock as he truly wanted to offer a wide choices of drinks to his guests. The kitchen island was soon transformed into a bar, the alcohol bottles surrounded by a wide array of glasses and ingredients. Maraschino cherries, orange and lemon slices, sugar and salt or even expertly cut vegetables. When everything was ready to the Mayan's satisfaction, he lit the led strips Mingi had helped him to install around the kitchen and he chose a nice, smooth playlist for some soft musical background.
The dancer just had time for a quick shower and a change of outfit before his two companions for the night knocked at his door and he sauntered to open, almost immediately squeezing Xianjun in his arms and smiling at Vitas. "Welcome !" he exclaimed, making sure that the Bee Boy could see his lips. "Please, come in !" He almost pushed them inside before closing the door. "What did you bring ? It smells delicious !"
