A Study of Tears || Seokjin & Nayeon

“I wasn’t waiting at all, really. I got here a bit early anyways.” He beamed at her. “It’s been a while.”

“What do you want to study first?” he asked, jittery from excitement. “I brought my chem, calc, and anatomy stuff like we agreed,” he continued, bringing out their respective textbooks and notebooks.

He sighed contentedly. “You’re so smart, you know that? I feel like whenever we study together, I learn so much that I wouldn’t’ve been able to have if we hadn’t.”

Last time they studied together, he had almost been in tears because he was convinced that he was going to receive a C on the test. After the study session, he had received an A, and a congrats from the professor for being one of the only 5 of the professor’s 150 students to get in the A range.

“Honestly, you’re magical.”

He ahed when he remembered the water bottles in his backpack. “I packed some water. Do you want a bottle? You can’t have the pink one though.”

(They were on the floor with the coffee stand, so naturally drinks and some snacks were allowed.)

Nayeon smiled a little. “I was thinking anatomy because the test is so close and pretending it isn’t happening isn’t working for me.” She said with a small laugh. It wasn’t exactly fully true, while she hadn’t been studying it recently she had been boarderline obsessed a few weeks ago with getting study notes ready for the exams. She shook her head at the others compliments. “Hey you know that’s not true you are really smart Seokjin.” 

She loved studying with him, theoretically it was a level playing field and Nayeon was a little obsessive when it came to studying, but she had a natural intelligence she imagined she got from her father and probably her mother. She actually loved studying with Seokjin because he took this seriously, he cared and that made her willing to work with him. She also really liked him. “So; the pink one is special?” She said with a laugh.

She smiled at Seokjin and then remembered. “Oh I never told you, I picked my specialism. I’m going into paediatrics. Our baby and children demi-gods are gonna get the best care~” She said with a laugh.

Crossfire| Open

Jungkook helps her stand. “You really should be careful, especially when it’s so late.” Mount Phoenix isn’t really dangerous but anything can happen. He offers, “I can walk you home if you’d like.” No, it’s more like he has to walk her home. He doesn’t want her to faint again. Did she say that her power makes her weak?He’s sympathetic towards her, yet curious. Jungkook quickly takes out a candy bar from his grocery bag and hands it to her. “Eat this. It should give you energy.”  

“Just lead the way…” He walks next to her. He’s never seen her around before. Maybe she doesn’t go out often because of her condition? “I should introduce myself… I’m Jungkook.” He stares at the much smaller female. She looks really pale and still doesn’t look any healthier. He doesn’t want to pry into her personal life so he tries not to question her. Instead, he makes a suggestion, “How ‘bout I make you some tea?” It seems weird, going to a stranger’s house to make tea. He wouldn’t be surprised if she says no. “I-I mean… if you want… I swear I don’t have any other motives.” His eyes widen. He runs his fingers through his hair.

Maybe this will help? Jungkook starts radiating heat from his body, similar to a furnace. “Is that better?” He looks back at her, waiting for a response. Some of the color returns to her cheeks.

Nayeon nodded at the man’s warnings. “I know, I just... my power it can just do what it wants.” She mumbled, taking the candy bar gratefully and eating it slowly. She hoped her blood sugar was going up, the last thing she wanted was to collapse again onto the nice man who was helping her. She doesn’t know how to explain what had happened to her. Knowing that she probably sounded completely crazy, although really in Mount Phoenix she knew there were probably others like her. 

“I live in the Tengu apartments they aren’t too far from here. I’m sorry if they are far away from where you live.” She said quietly. “Thank you for walking back with me.” She still felt weak, but she didn’t want to show it and make him worry. She smiled a little at him and nodded. “Ok, tea sounds great to me. I have some really good teas in my house. I might go to Miach a little too much.” She said softly. She trusted the boy and she wasn’t really sure why, but she did. 

She started to feel warmer, to stop shivering and she looked at him. Heat manipulation? She wondered a little to herself but she didn’t say anything. She simply nodded. “I feel better. Thank you.” Maybe she should explain her own power. But I see dead people did tend to freak people out a little.

Understanding| Nayeon + Taemin

He’s starting to feel a little better. He’ll never, ever forgive himself for what he had done. What he had caused. -but it seemed like there was no way he could explain that to Nayeon. She was too good and gentle. Too kind. He should consider himself lucky to have her. She would never give in and see what a manipulative monster he was. Maybe he should consider it a blessing.

“That’s nice to think of…” When had he lost so much faith as to think that there was a soulmate out there for everyone but himself? He loved love, he really did, but deep down he liked to think that he didn’t deserve it. That being alone forever should be his punishment, his atonement helping others find love.

Head on her chest he closes tear reddened eyes, comforted by her touch. Quietly he nodded, willing to accept the rhetoric for just a moment, just for her sake. It didn’t matter if he felt that he deserved to live with the guilt forever, he would only hurt her more if he insisted.

“Thank you Nayeon, you’re really too sweet to me…”

Nayeon held the man, she couldn’t take away his pain and even if her power was that she wouldn’t - because to take it away would only be cruel, because when she left it would come back stronger. “I love you Taemin, not in the way you’re looking for but I do love you. And there are plenty of people who love you in all kinds of ways.” She said softly, rubbing his back gently. She just wanted to take it all way but she couldn’t and that hurt, knowing her friend was hurting in irreparable ways. 

“You are gonna find love and this will all seem like a nightmare, when they are keeping you safe.” She sighed a little, she was still waiting for her Princess to come along into her life but she was sure it was going to happen. She liked to believe everyone had a perfect match. She had to believe that to be true. 

Nayeon shook her head. “I’m just sweet enough.” She laughed a little, pressing a comforting kiss to the top of his head. “Do you want me to make a warm cup of tea for you? I can cook something? What can I do to help you feel better?”

Welcoming Committee| Nayeon + Eunwoo

“Again?”  

Eunwoo’s eyes lost its usual twinkle of purity as anger and annoyance engulfed his flesh whole. The university was much too large and vast to explore without someone accompanying him, and the thought just seemed to pick at his emotions even more. Being the new kid was much harder than Eunwoo had expected it to be.

“Hm?” A small voice called out to him, sparking hope and curiosity in the pit of his stomach. Eunwoo’s face arose to find a figure a few centimeters shorter than him approach him. “Yes. And exactly. Why did they make it so hard to navigate?” Sighing, he poured his bubbled thoughts inside of him out to her as he met her eyes with a grin.

“I’m Eunwoo.” Bowing slightly, he arose with a new glimmer in his eyes. “Can you take me to my next class? It’s…” Eunwoo’s eyes met with his schedule again. “Chemistry.”

Nayeon smiled and then shrugged. “I personally think they wanted to make all new demi-gods suffer. It took me weeks to learn where the medical building was. Imagine that, a nursing major who can’t find the medical building.” She said with a little laugh, hoping to cheer the boy up as he seemed a little flustered, probably about not being able to find his way. 

“Well you’re in look Eunwoo, I am actually on my way to Chemistry so I can pretty much walk you to the door.” She said with a slight bounce to her voice. “Shall we get going?” She turned and started to walk. “So, how long have you been on the island? I’ve been here a couple of years... things went wrong out in Seoul so I kind of ran away here.” She rambled a little. 

“Oh yeah! I’m the daughter of Izanami. Do you know who your God parent is?”

習います| Nayeon + Amaterasu

Nayeon was a little nervous about meeting Amaterasu for coffee. She knew the other wanted to know about her, the daughter of Izanami, but she was desperate to know anything of her mother. She worried that the Goddess would see right through her and see all the bad things she’d done and think that her mother would be disappointed in her. She just didn’t want to be a disappointment for the rest of her life. She knew that the Japanese looked more favourably on same-sex relations than the Koreans, so she guessed her mother wouldn’t mind that she was gay. But she still knew nothing about her mother, just that she’d left her with her father. 

She walked into the Flower Mill and smiled seeing Amaterasu already seated with a drink, Nayeon was quick to order and sit down across from the woman. She greeted Amaterasu in Japanese and smiled, “Would you rather we did this in Japanese or Korean?” She was bilingual so really it was whatever suited the Goddess best.

House Call| Nayeon + Yerin

She really had to get onto her mother later for this. Had Yerin actually been in bed, Nayeon would have came in with a gun facing here, and that is no way to first meet someone so pretty as her. She was thankful for her mother’s concern, but she knew the woman meant well. “Yeah. That is true.” She quietly responds. “Thank you for coming.”

Yerin nods her head and follows the female to her bed. She keeps her face calm, even though boy does it all hurt. However, she needed to learn how to stop being such a wimp, and here was a chance. Once she finally gets back to the bed, she looks around. “I’m fine. Thank you, but do you mean getting Pudding for me?” She asks softly as she points to the bunny that was settled on her bean bag in the corner.

“I do. I have a pink one in the cabinet over the sink. I hate to be such a pest, but will you bring back a bowl of carrots too for Pudding.” She looks down, rather shyly. She hated being a pest, especially to cute girls.

Nayeon gave the girl a smile. She couldn’t help but notice how cute the girl was, she wasn’t going to say anything - because they would be unprofessional but she made a note to whine about it to Morrigan as she was the one who set this up. “I’m always willing to help someone in need, and I like meeting people.” She tried not to sound too lame, but she probably really was. 

Nayeon smiled and picked up the bunny. “Pudding, that’s a cute name for a bunny.” She had handing the bunny to Yerin. “How did you come up with that name?” She was genuinely curious, to know how Pudding cropped up. She smiled before going into the kitchen. She got the tray out and then quickly set about preparing the food, some soup with some rice and a little bit of some of the side dishes and then a bowl of carrots, that had been peeled and washed for Pudding. 

She came back into the room and settled the tray on the other’s lap so she could eat. “I didn’t really know what was to your taste so the Kimchi side dish isn’t really spicy. But the soup is hearty and the rice is cooked just like my dad made for me. So I promise it’s good. If you have any preferences I can make sure your food reflects that.”

House Call| Nayeon + Yerin

Yerin was too busy hiding her face in her hands to notice anything about Nayeon. She was a mess, but the moment Nayeon mentioned her mother, a scowl momentarily grew on her hidden face. She loved Morrigan, but she was so evil. Yerin takes a moment to try and calm down, and she takes her hands away from her face. “Mom sent you?” Yerin asks, tilting her head. “I’m sorry. I got no warning.” Yerin’s hands moved up to Nayeon’s shoulders, and she pulled herself up.

“It’s fine. I trust you.” Yerin grimaces slightly as she finally stands herself up. Boy, the pain was bad. However, she wasn’t about to let the other woman let her see herself so weak. “I know. I know. I wouldn’t have been, but food.” She looks down as she lies, though she was also getting rather shy with how close they now were.

“Alright. I’ll get back in bed if you bring me some of your cooking!” She wasn’t quite sure whether Nayeon was going to be a blessing or a curse hidden in disguise, but she was too greedy to turn down anything.

Nayeon nodded at the question and smiled a little. “Morrigan certainly has a way about doing things.” She said with a small laugh. She wondered why the Goddess hadn’t warned her own daughter about the nurse’s visit. She didn’t want to impose on the other. She adjusted her position to help the other and give her all the support she wanted. 

Nayeon nodded. “Well let’s get you back to bed then, and I’ll get you some food. Ok?” She wanted to make sure the other was comfy. She wondered just how much pain the other was in. She didn’t know how well the other was taught to deal with pain. She carefully helped the other to her bed and gently lowered her down. “Are you comfortable? Want me to prop up your leg any better?” She offered, looking around for anything she could do to make the girl feel better.

“If you’re gonna be ok I’ll just go heat up some of the food and bring it in for you. Do you have any food trays?” She said with a smile, tucking one side of her hair behind her ear.

House Call| Nayeon + Yerin

Yerin had been given specific directions that she should remain in bed and rest. That was honestly asking a lot out of her. She was a war kid. She wasn’t made just to sit in bed. She could do so for a hour or so, but after that, she felt the need to do stuff. She wanted to train. She wanted to go see her friends. This injury was honestly being the biggest pain. She really was considering healing it up, but she needed to train herself. This was her punishment for letting pain mess up her fighting.

So though she was supposed to be confined in her bed, she had managed to slowly and painfully drag herself into the kitchen. She had left all her delivery menus in the kitchen, and she used the need for food as an excuse to get up. No one would argue with her need to want to get food right? This was her own secret way of training. She needed to learn how to get over the pain.  Anyway, she did not believe anyone would catch her. Mother was settling business affair and her girl squad all were doing their own things.

The unfamiliar voice almost sent her on the ground, more out of surprising her. She had no idea who it was, but it was clear someone hand send them to tend to her. As the other went to support her, Yerin turned to get a better look at the female. Her cheeks turned a bright red within seconds. Whoever this person was had one of the cutest faces she had ever seen. “I—. Who are you?” Yerin buried her hands in her face. “I just wanted to get a takeout menu.”

Nayeon was surprised by the other and blushed back. Yerin was pretty - which was something Morrigan had failed to mention and now Nayeon was here looking like an idiot, blushing while trying to hold someone up. She took a small breath and then smiled, hoping her makeup covered most of the blush. “I’m Nayeon. Im Nayeon.” She didn’t really know what else to add to that. “I’m kinda being trained by your mom, I’m not some weird person who just came here.” She rambled a little, she would blame that on being nervous but she talked a lot regularly. She just wanted to make sure that Yerin was comfortable. “I’m training to be a nurse.” She offered up as well.

Nayeon nodded. “You really shouldn’t be out of bed. Let me help you back into bed and then I’ll grab you the menu or I brought food if you’d rather eat something home cooked.” She said with a smile. She hoped she didn’t come across as annoyingly cheerful, but she couldn’t help being so bouncy. She was just naturally like this.

“I promise you won’t be trapped in bed for too long. But the more you move like this the longer it will take.”

Welcoming Committee| Nayeon + Eunwoo

Nayeon was so glad today that she only had class. She wasn’t working in the bookstore (which she did love but it wasn’t her real passion) and she wasn’t on shift as a nurse until later on in the week. It left her with not that much to do, she was still trying to work out her classes for next week so maybe she should book an appointment with an advisor - she also needed to fill in some paperwork about her specialism. She couldn’t wait to graduate and change the lives of children. But she was still being moved around and she was sure that next week she was in the ER.

She noticed a boy looking pretty lost on campus and she turned to walk over. She’d once been the new kid who didn’t know their way around, so she resolved she was going to help him and become his friend. “Hey there.” She said with a bright smile. “I’m Nayeon, are you lost? The schools kinda big.”

Crossfire| Open

Jungkook decided to make a quick trip to the store. He’s glad Mount Phoenix has markets that are open late. It seems a little weird to be grocery shopping at this hour when many young adults were enjoying the night life. He’s hit the clubs a couple of times but it really isn’t something he does often. He hummed as he walked with grocery bags in hand. The stars look really nice tonight.

Suddenly, he spots someone just lying on the ground. Is that a normal thing to see? He hurries over and sees a young lady knocked out cold. Oh god. He gulps. He calls out to her, “Hello? Hello! Miss, can you hear me?” He even waves his hands. No response. He checks her pulse to see if she’s alive first. Whew, her pulse is fine. He moves her to the side and places her in a comfortable position. To someone who isn’t aware of the situation, it can leave a weird impression. He looks around to see if anyone else is around. No one. Good thing there aren’t any visible injuries on her body.

Eventually, her eyes start to flutter open. He’s relieved but still worried. “A-are you okay?” He continues, “You were just lying here… unconscious…” He waits for her response. She mutters the words “I’m fine.” She certainly doesn’t look fine. 

Nayeon was hazy when she woke up. There was time in her life when she cried after she passed out, but now she knew it was coming she ended up allowing her body to fall into it. It was a lot less distressing than if she were to fight it and still end up passing out. That was the kind of fainting that resulted in her crying when she came round. Last time she’d been caught off guard she’d cried like she never had in her life. She hated crying, especially in public. She did also have a strong dislike for fainting in public, but apprently spirits didn’t feel the need to respect that.

Nayeon looked at the man who’d moved her into the recovery position or something. Maybe she fell into that position. She just nods her head. “I’m fine.” She said again. She still felt a little light headed so she stayed sat on the ground. She wished the sensation would go away so she could get up and pretend that nothing happened. “Thank you.” She said quietly to the man, it would have been easier for him to just walk on. She imagined it wouldn’t have looked too good if someone had just stumbled upon them. She also knew that her just passed out made her look like she was some sort of inept girl.

Nayeon gave him a small smile. “I just... it’s my power. It makes me weak.” She explained. She wondered if he’d seen her pass out, because she was curious about how hard she hit the ground as she felt awful. She just hoped she looked a little bit better than she felt.

Understanding| Nayeon + Taemin

Nayeon shook her head softly. “It’s not stupid at all.” She spoke gently, as if to comfort him. She just wanted to sheild him from the hurt that he was forcing himself thorugh, hurting that he didn’t need to live with. He wasn’t a bad person - no, she refused to believe that. Nayeon shook her head. “Taemin, you know that’s not true. Sure, you might fall for someone and it might not work out really, but there is someone out there who loves you.” She nodded, she was a firm believer in destiny and true love. She liked to think that there was someone out there for everyone and it just took some people longer than others to find their perfect match.

Nayeon moved to gently fix Taemin’s hair. “Don’t be so hard on yourself, please. You don’t deserve the guilt that you’re forcing on yourself.”

“Sit.” The command isn’t harsh but it is definitely an order rather than a suggestion.

Evidently finding what she’s looking for Morrigan stands to pull the chair across from her desk out for Nayeon before going on the shut the door. All outside noise is suddenly gone and the office around them is silent save for their own movements.

What she’s preparing for the demi-goddess is most likely going to be taxing, but she doesn’t want her protege to think that it’s anything but out of love. To ease any nerves she settles the girl into the chair and runs fingers through her hair, brushing a barely there kiss against her temple. The motherly side of Morrigan is looking both to comfort and to be made proud.

She has confidence that Nayeon is ready for another step.

“So there are to be no surprises, I intend to open a door for the other side, and purposely call whatever would like to come through. Only spirits will be able to pass, but I’m sure you are aware that there are many manifestations possible. We’re going to see how much stimulation you can take. The only way to completely harden yourself into total control is to step directly into full exposure.”

Nayeon sat down, and watched the other preparing for whatever it was that the other was trying to prepare for. Nayeon was a little anxious but she was sure that she could take the next step in order to become more in control of her own power. She was thankful to Morrigan in ways she couldn’t even begin to express as her own mother wasn’t around to help her. She really did love Morrigan as if she was her own family, but again that wasn’t really something one could just say to a Goddess.

Nayeon’s nerves were eased a little by the other’s contact with her. It reminded her that the other was there, that she wasn’t going to let Nayeon die or anything completely crazy like that. Nayeon knew here she was reasonably safe. Sure she might pass out, but if she did she would learn something from the experience. She would be able to make it all a learning curve. She was going to get better, she was going to be in control of her power rather than it being the other way around.

Nayeon nodded listening to the woman. She knew this was going to be the hardest thing she had done yet, and she welcomed that challenge. She was going to prove that she was good enough for this. She was ready, she was contemplative because she was concerned about what was going to be coming through from the other side, but she knew that she could do it. “Ok.” She said with a nod. “I can do this.” She said, more as an affirmation more than being something that particularly relevant.

House Call| Nayeon + Yerin

Nayeon had been told to go to Number 1 of the Banshee apartments. She didn’t really know Yerin, daughter of Morrigan, that well. And by that Nayeon had probably seen her in passing but had never really had a conversation with the girl - who she assumed was probably a really nice girl. Nayeon was a little nervous, she always was when she was meeting new people but she’d told herself that she was a nurse so she could do this.

Morrigan had asked her to go over - and Nayeon wasn’t going to let down her mentor. She didn’t really do much to thank the other and making sure that her daughter was safe was more than she could ever do to repay the woman for helping her to get some form of control over her powers. Nayeon knocked on the door and didn’t hear an answer. Maybe the girl was asleep, if she was on any pain medication it would be most likely. So Nayeon tried the door handle, there wasn’t much need in Mount Phoenix for locks really, but it was a habit to do that - and also probably preferable with everything that been happening recently.

“Hey.” Nayeon called when she walked in, slipping her shoes off, and putting her bag down, she’d made some things her father had always made her when she was hurting. Nayeon was just nurturing in some ways - as she was  the daughter of the Goddess of Creation. She was surprised when she walked in and saw the girl on her feet. She moved quickly to support her. “You’re not supposed to be out of bed.” She said softly. She wasn’t scolding the girl, she wasn’t her mother, but she was still concerned about the girl.
