I never hear anyone bring up the premise that Casca might not have actually “LOVED” Guts. For all intents and purposes, he could have just been the rebound. Remember when Guts saved Casca from her suicide attempt, her self-esteem was completely shot. She needed love and validation from SOMEBODY, and Guts just happened to be there. (Think “Last Call” at the bar.) Even after they make love, Casca still can’t get Griffith out of her gourd. This may sound horrible to most people… But I did not like Casca. There, I said it! As strong as she was she was very moody and got on my nerves. She seemed to always throw a fit. I believe the mindless state she is in now is almost like a curse for Guts to struggle to protect her and never have his love for her reciprocated.
