Dungeon Serpent - World of Sorrows. 2021 melodic brutal death metal, in the vein of Intestine Baalism and Dismember. Good stuff, hits hard, the production is gritty and makes it sound like old school underground albums. A good blend of melodic hooks and downtrodden riffs. Overall, not as good as the influences but really excited to hear what the one man bands next album will sound like as the musicianship gets tighter and the music sounds like a more complete experience.
3/5
God Macabre - The Winterlong. Old school Swedish death metal classic, among the ranks of Demigod and Entombed. Without a doubt, it is a shame this was their only album.
Listening to this album again today really reminded me of what it felt like listening to this as a teenager, being enamored with the new music I was discovering, and resonating with it so well. It's more melancholic than brutal, which was sort of the thing many Swedish bands were doing at the time. Listeners will really understand that across some of the album's staple tracks, Lost, Lamentation, In Grief...
Hypnotic black metal from the Ukraine! 2020 release
Two for the day. Horna - Sudentaival. Finnish black metal legends. Consistent discography, and this is one of my favorite albums from them. Melodic and groovy
Enjoying Laments/L'Aube des Trespasses- melodic black metal from France; Suhnopfer. Recorded in 2004/06 originally. Lots of medieval themes on the second demo, reminds me of Pagan Hellfire or Akitsa without the genre fusions. The production seems worse on my phone, by the way. I think I got this from Osmose Productions, might not have it anymore
