you can start anytime.
you can brush your teeth in the middle of the day. you can wash the dishes at 2am. you can do things outside the normal times assigned by society.
You can go to bed at noon. You can have ravioli for breakfast and cheerios for dinner. As long as you're awake, washed, dressed, and in the place you need to be when you need to be there (and I mean *need*, like a job or a social obligation, not just aherening to cultural expectations) it doesn't matter what the rest of your schedule looks like.
This tumblr post (or perhaps another one extremely similar to it) really changed my life a couple years ago.
Realizing you can start your day anytime, you can go do your morning errands at 8pm if that's how things pan out.
I'd like to add one more to this: just do one thing. Wash one dish, pick up one thing from the floor. Oftentimes when I do this, I'll find myself doing more than one based on the sheer momentum of starting. But the rule is you only have to do one.

''i wasted those years'' who cares. you lived the only life you could've lived in those moments
one of the biggest things I can advocate for (in academia, but also just in life) is to build credibility with yourself. It’s easy to fall into the habit of thinking of yourself as someone who does things last minute or who struggles to start tasks. people will tell you that you just need to build different habits, but I know for me at least the idea of ‘habit’ is sort of abstract and dehumanizing. Credibility is more like ‘I’ve done this before, so I know I can do it, and more importantly I trust myself to do it’. you set an assignment goal for the day and you meet it, and then you feel stronger setting one the next day. You establish a relationship with yourself that’s built on confidence and trust. That in turn starts to erode the barrier of insecurity and perfectionism and makes it easier to start and finish tasks. reframing the narrative as a process of building credibility makes it easier to celebrate each step and recognize how strong your relationship with yourself can become
has anyone else noticed that we must go on

Daily Gratitude
September 12, 2023
What are you grateful for today?
Welcome to my gratitude support group! All are welcome to be a part of the gratitude crew. Re-blog, write a note or send an ask as often as makes sense for you (just once, every day, twice a year, a few times a month— doesn’t matter!)
I tag some of the crew several times a week. If you’d like to be on the tag list let me know.
All posts will be tagged ‘resiliencewithin’s daily gratitude group’.
Prompt (if you want): Something you are proud of (big or small).
I’m grateful
(and proud) that I got through yesterday. Being sick while trying to teach and settle high energy grade 4s is 😖. Even more than the getting through, I’m proud I finally started to believe my positive self talk. I am doing the best that I can and I can’t do it all. What I am doing has to be enough because it’s all I have.
