THE OTHER BENNET SISTER (2026–)
Controversial opinion but BBC’s The Other Bennet Sister is SO good. Chemise under stays, period-coherent makeup, wrinkles, sweat and body hair. It’s such a brilliant change from the drop-dead gorgeous, highly edited period dramas we’re so used to seeing nowadays. Of course, the characterisation of Charlotte Lucas and Caroline Bingley leaves a fair bit to be desired and I know a lot of P&P fans don’t agree with the idea that Mary ever had good intentions but I think it’s a largely plausible continuation of the novel. Not to mention how much I adore Mr Hayward (I was so excited when I realised that the actor is Irish - a famously “romantic-sounding” accent - but they chose to make the character a Northerner!). Anyway, I cannot wait for the next five episodes to come out!

“Don’t be cheeky or I’ll punch your head,” said Fanny, her color rising.
“Just try,” grinned Felicity.

Quote from "The First Rebellion (The Waverly Women Series Book 1)" by M. C. Beaton -
"Come, Lady Artemis, you have seen them in society—the faded lilies of the field who lie on their sofas all day long, vainly trying to amuse themselves with pug dogs and romances.” This was a fair description of Lady Artemis’s afternoons, and she looked at Felicity in high irritation as if thinking the girl had been spying on her."
Quote from "The Parfit Knight (Rockliffe Book 1)" by Stella Riley -
"when Lady Linton rose to go, she smiled absently upon her and said, ‘Dear child – I shall so enjoy chaperoning you! For with so much beauty – and not to mention the money – you are bound to be a success. I don’t suppose,’ she asked hopefully, ‘that you would like to marry Robert?’ And then, without waiting for Rosalind to reply, ‘But of course you wouldn’t. I am quite sure you have too much sense – and Lord Philip too, I expect. No one with sense would take Robert. I wouldn’t myself."
What a loving mother lol. Robert is a little shit though.

Happy Netherfield Ball Day PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (1995)
If he ever escaped Hertfordshire, Darcy swore to himself he would never return for as long as he lived. “Then I am afraid, if you have me, you will be obliged to have her and her companion as well.”
“Excellent! If I am to spend Christmas Day with a house full of my own silly women, the least you can do is bring a few of your own.”
Darcy could not accustom himself to the man’s irreverence, and the comparison of Anne to any one of Elizabeth’s younger sisters was sobering, thus he did not smile as they stood to shake hands.

“Darcy,” Bingley called, “did you hear that? She called me a sensible man.”
“She has clearly gotten fatigued and delusional.”
Bingley puffed up dramatically. “An insult to Miss Elizabeth and myself? I’m affronted. A meeting at dawn.”
“You are more likely to oversleep than I.”
Bingley deflated, laughing.

"But if Mr. Darcy does improve on acquaintance, which Colonel Fitzwilliam has said, and you did feel affection...”
“I’d sooner feel affection for this new bonnet,” Lizzy exclaimed. “It is also good-looking and although it occasionally gives me a sharp poke from this loose wire, at least it flatters my vanity.”
Charlotte laughed.

To my favorite daughter,
Lizzy, when I told you that I begrudged the man who earned your hand, I did not quite intend for you to throw him over. I suppose that is my mistake for being vague. I have often said precision of thought and speech is of utmost importance, have I not? I congratulate myself on my perspicacity, if not on the art of my letters.

I recently came to the realization that the man I really want to marry in Pride and Prejudice is Mr. Hurst. It would be like being married to a drunk cat.
He also seems to like killing birds (going shooting).
Mary is on a roll in this one.
“He said, ‘I know I should find a more proper occasion for this, but I cannot wait another moment. I knew, from the moment I met you, that I would love you always.’”
“That is very unlikely,” Mary said, earning glares from all but Jane, who was too happy to glare at anyone, and Elizabeth, who secretly agreed with Mary’s observation."
and
“Lizzy, you stay here. I am certain Mr. Collins has something he wishes to say to you.”
“Indeed I do!” Mr. Collins affirmed with a smile for Elizabeth, who grabbed the hand of the sister nearest her.
“Do not leave me,” she whispered to Mary, whose hand was beginning to turn an awful shade of purple.
Mary pried her sister’s fingers from her own. “We must bear our hardships as best we can.”
