Usually I don't like to mess with a classic. But some of these look pretty good.
Sunday morning gin tasting. My mum's idea. She also mixed them, which is bad news for anyone planning to drive later... Tanqueray Tanqueray 10 & Gordons I love Tanqueray & the 10 is great, but it's certainly not £10 better. On the blind test I guessed right, but couldn't say I prefer either.
Gordon's Elderflower Splash - A Testdrive
Last year I wrote about Gordon's Cucumber Crisp. I was pleasantly surprised; so when they released 'Elderflower Splash' I didn't hesitate to pick up a bottle for a road test.
This is why I was massively disappointed.
Test #1 The G'n'T
This was a bit disappointing for me. The gin came across a bit too sweet for my taste, and the elderflower taste was a bit artificial. As I drank it it grew on me a bit and I thought it might appeal to someone who likes a sweeter more floral gin like Bombay Sapphire. One for my mum perhaps?
Test #2 The Martini
This was actually ok. Because the G&T was a bit sweet, I didn't rinse the olives like I usually like to do and the brine cut the sweetness well. It still tasted like the flavour wasn't natural, even though the label claims otherwise.
Test #3 The Silver Streak
I was going to have a gimlet here, but considering the sweetness needed a bit of rounding off. The Silver Streak sounded like a good plan. Throwing in some aniseedy caraway, cumin & fennel richness could work?
Strangely not. Somehow the gin seemed to elevate the sweetness of the German liqueur that I'd not even noticed.
So?
Sorry Gordon's, but this is shit. Actually. scratch the apology. You should apologise to me. This is not acceptable. This is an obvious cash in on your good name and the popularity of new gins with unusual botanicals.
What next Gordon's? "A hint of baby arse" "A whiff of slut's armpit"? No. Obviously not, it would be a lot safer. A lot ,more five levels of management aproval. Saffron, or Basil. Or something else you've stolen from another top shelf gin manufacturer.
Come on Gordon's step up to the crease. surprise us. If you need some help you know where to find me.

Elmo & Silver Streak
I found the puuurfect guardian for my cocktails; my furry friend Elmo.
Silver Streak: 1 part Kummel 1 part gin
Shaken hard with ice. Garnished with a whiskey stone.
I love these whiskey stones, they cool the drink for ages, look nice and don't dilute the booze.
Valentine Cocktail #2 Rose Martini
50ml Hendricks gin, 25ml Triple sec, Splash Rose water, Rose petals to garnish Crushed ice...
The Golden Lion - Glouster Road, Bristol
Dr Cornelius' Bathtub gin Martini
With miniature cocktail onions. Great, great gin and the onions give it a little kick at the end I might prefer to the flat saltiness of olives.

Goji gin Today's experiment is Goji infused gin. This shut has to be one of your five-a- day.
A table- spoon of goji berries a large measure of fun and a 1/4 spoon of sugar.
A couple of weeks should nail it. With a shake every couple of days.
