The funniest thing about being completely unable to explain my gender to my mom is that she's like "do you really want to identify with men when they're literally the worst shit of the world?" And I'm like. No. Actually. No. That's. That's the reason I cry every night lol. I want to transition and be seen and treated like a man but not those men. No no you don't understand toxic masculinity and violence culture are not my definition of man. Those are just bad people, those don't deserve to be called men. My definition of masculinity is being strong enough to be gentle, is serving for those in need, is moving through the world feeling alive. Being a man is not any different from being a woman, and yet that word couldn't feel more alien to me. I am a very very messy smoothie of Basil Hallward's sensible artistry and Sherlock Holmes' eccentric curiosity and Raskolnikov's overthinking anxiety. No no fuck Trump I want to be a man like Wilde or Tchaikovsky, these men have always been my definition of masculinity since I was a fucking child. I want to be a man like the men in Leyendecker's paintings. My ultimate gender enby/crush/ideal masculine self is actually Dmitri from the Anastasia movie. Or maybe Max Demian or Arsène Lupin. No you don't get it I'm literally Ranpo Edogawa from bsd. I'm as queer as Rui Kamishiro.
Of course, I couldn't even say a single word out loud.
Maybe the thing here is that it's not about gender at all. It's just that if I were born a boy no one would ever question me being gay.
Maybe I'm just so aware that gender is all made up I could only think of good men in fiction because real men don't exist. But I want to try to be one.
I am queer, and therefore, the only masculinity possible for me is a queer one. Unfortunately my effeminate mannerisms never felt out of place for a person perceived as a girl.
(Actually it's really funny to me that my ultimate masculine goal are the only straight ones here, like Dmitri, but because he's good men for women, he doesn't play into the power dynamics of gender in an abusive way, which is exactly why I like him).

Idk man it seems like the Jack propaganda is based solely in degrading interesting complex characters to glorify what y'all think good, noble morality looks like.
I have no interest in a character without conflict, without dilemmas or an interesting worldview. No, being a tsundere is not complexity, that's just a trope.
If your only argument for Jack to win is that he's a "good boy" then you don't want to think why it angers you so much that questionable characters might win over boring ass purity.
Rook's love for the world, trying to find and pursue beauty in everything, is much more pure. Even if it makes you uncomfortable.
Fiction doesn't owe you good values. It has to make you think. No one is going to clap at you if you only vote for what you think won't be punished.

Tbh Azul is the truest "love me or hate me, I will either live in your heart or your mind" and his attempts to make Jamil think of him all the time are fukcing working.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank goodness Jamil is too repressed and too annoyed to accept Azul bc them working together it's the most dangerous thing that could ever threaten Twisted Wonderland. They're too vengeful and sadistic to enjoy setting the world on flames. Fortunately they're too busy bitching around being mean to Ace.
I've been thinking for a while and I don't think I've seen a neurodivergent character who is poor. Like, really poor, because it's not an appealing truth to tell a story. If you're poor then the story frames all the strength and wit you need to develop to survive, and if you're neurodivergent then it's about the specific struggles of the disability and how to make accommodations for your needs.
But what if you can't afford those accommodations? What if you can't buy sound cancelling headphones? What if you can't buy clothes with good fabric? What if you don't know how to maintain a job? What if you don't know how to monetize your abilities?
What if you can't even afford therapy or to get a professional diagnosis?
What if neurodivergences aren't compatible with a capitalist system that punishes you for being different? Because that's the reality. The system hates us, and it's not funny if the means to stop our pain cost money they won't give away.
Oh well, I think I'm just overwhelmed. Because. Why am I even complaining right? It's not like I can't do all the stuff everyone else does to figure out how to survive in a world that wants you dead. I'm just overreacting because I don't want to work. Right.

Idk I often think about all the wonderful ideas we all had when we were younger and now that time passed and I actually have the ability to make it good, the creativity is gone. So maybe the best answer I have for now is to come back to all those all ideas, all the things you wanted to make, to draw, to write, and make them for real this time. Idk all this to say this is already incredibly good but I'd love to read if you end up doing smth else like this.
I remember I wanted to write a mallerollo fic where they send letters to each other after the whole glomas event and it was supposed to have a very gothic-literature-esque vibes, very Dracula and Notre Dame inspired, but at this time I was starting to feel self conscious writing fics in Spanish so I only wrote one (terrible) chapter 😅. Idk if I'd ever write it again.

re canon accurate: thank you! i'm glad you think so. i played twisted wonderland for perhaps two weeks in 2022 and then quit because i just don't enjoy playing video games, especially not mobile games (they hurt my head). also, when they'd lock the rest of a story behind a battle/twist tune/whatever i'd get so mad. i do not have the psyche for this. i read all my stories and voice lines from the good people who transcribe them to fandom wiki (i've thought about being an editor there to contribute since i edit on wikipedia but have not bitten the bullet) and if they're unpublished i'll look at youtube uploads if i'm desperate enough (or solicit tumblr user @ethereal-evenings for screenshots)

Thank goodness you didn't meet me at my bungou stray dogs era, I even made school assignments about it, not just the anime or manga but every single book barely mentioned on it. I've read entire novels just to make the deepest, craziest, well-informed analysis on my little gay ships. I was insane. (I still am).
Tbh engaging with a piece of media just reading the wiki it's insaneeeee, I did that w a few proseka events I wanted to read at a quicker pace than in the game but it's a very different experience for sure. I like listening to the voice actors so I prefer watching videos or playing the game, but twst doesn't voice the event stories so that makes me lose a lot of interest on them unfortunately :/ you're so much stronger than me for sure.
I don't have a computer so I can only play mobile games, I'm not much of a gamer myself but lately I've realized I really enjoy the non-linear ways games can tell stories, like through vignettes, voice lines, chats, etc, they remind me a little how sometimes you have bonus scenes at the end of manga volumes! But I get it's not for everyone, I'm glad you still engage w the fandom nonetheless bc I love your art and idk I think you're cool :p (totally chalant).
okay my notes are such a mess and are half online (need to keep screenshots somewhere easy to copy paste) and half physical (just. so i can remember) and i can't show them but i can tell you what's in them. basically i screenshot things where the exact wording feels significant to me (or i just like it; eg collection of azujami screenshots) and write down information that i'd like to have on hand but don't need meticulous bookkeeping. so "jamil expresses excitement about cinema, jamil has an eye for textiles and fine art, jamil wants to visit the coral sea" (not pulled directly from notes) are things i'd write down and have a note with the event or card i got it from. i see jamil's relationship to kalim and his job as the most important part of his character (well. of course) so that's more well-documented and the things i write down will have the place i got it from + the chapter number so i can find it again and occasionally accompanied with analysis like "narrative frames this as jamil's fault" or "localization removed x". it's helpful to have because i'm really ambitious with everything i want to address in my fics (god i have like. a bibliography for what i'm writing right now) but you know it's not that organized. it's just anything that stands out to me that i don't want to forget about a character. i actually need to go through the main story and some vignettes again because i need to take notes on azul (writing something quite long from his pov)
major props for actually reading the novels for bsd 🙂↕️ nothing but respect. i love that for you. and i only read the event stories when jamil is there (literally ctrl f jamil) because this is the jamil viper show and everyone else is just there. i struggle with events in general because i dont like... just reading fluff... it gives me a similar feeling to eating too much sugar, lethargic with a headache. does that make sense. it feels unearned. i dont know
also yeah the nonlinear story telling is one of the big reasons i can actually engage with twst! i love vignettes in literature it's my favorite storytelling device after epistolary. and aw thank you that's really sweet... i'm glad you enjoy the things i make. you know i haven't drawn this much this consistently since i was 12 it's a bit insane to me. we can be chalant together. i think you're cool as well
I'm sleepy asf and I only have half a braincell alive rn but have you tried using obsidian?? It's a note-taking app and it's like. Really Good. I love it, you can have lots of little notes and organize them in folders and all that stuff bUT the cool thing is that you can link them together. And you can build a red w all these linked notes and idk it looks pretty cool, specially once you start having a lot of notes with information so you can link them and really see where you're taking the info from??? And idk I think u might give it good use. Btw that system w the source and chapter it's so cool what. That's how you do Proper Bibliography format for papers and essays and academic shit. Applied to the Jamil Viper Obsession. You're so cool what.
Unfortunately I haven't read Every Single Novel in bsd but I have a good amount of Edogawa, Poe and Dostoyevsky books in my library and I've probably read at least one poem/short story/novel/play (do anime adaptations count?? I don't think so), or whatever by at least 3/4th of the entire cast. I've also read books of similar time periods not mentioned in bsd and tried to make (failed) ocs abt them (like Wilde and Doyle and Stevenson).
My problem here is that I'm not terribly obsessed w any single character, I'd say prolly Cater or Rook but because they're so secretive it's really hard to find any good information abt them so I don't have a selective criteria to see which events I read or not. Also bc they're filler most of the time until you get to one important scene and idk I don't have much time for that :/ knowing them the most relevant piece of information they might mention is one (1) single weird food preference or stuff we already know but set in a different scenario. So. Not really useful.

Last night I couldn't sleep and I was thinking, Scarabia's story would be a million times more scary if they were girls. Imagine being Kalim and living with the constant fear of being poisoned and kidnapped, knowing what happens when girls are kidnapped. (Not that Kalim being a boy couldn't go through that too, but you get me right). Imagine being Jamil knowing what oppression feels like, in the way all his usual duties are framed as a continuation of systemic violence, how pushing women into working at home was a deliberate choice to limit their autonomy and political independence. Imagine Kalim knowing Jamil is the only girl she could really trust with her safety, and being betrayed by her. Imagine Jamil seeing Kalim as a traitor that didn't even try to do anything to change their reality.
Girl Kalim is trapped in a smaller, prettier golden cage than boy Kalim. Girl Jamil is trapped in a more painful and violent reality than boy Jamil.
The price for their freedom is much, much more expensive. It's a cost Kalim won't pay, and Jamil knows it. So she will do it herself.
TOP FIVE AZUJAMI HEADCANONS GO
It’s been exactly two weeks. Here you go:
1. Somewhere between book five and seven, they started hanging out. Jamil always made up some excuse to be in Azul’s vicinity and acted like he was being forced into conversation, but he’d stay for quite some time and ask Azul lots of questions (Jamil’s real curious about him, as showcased in Azul’s Platinum Jacket vignette). Unfortunately, Jamil enjoys his company. He always looks so smug and pleased when he gets to banter with Azul (see: the entire Tapis Rogue event. They also snuck out of their hotel one morning to investigate the security of the premises or whatever; read: hang out together). I think after book seven Jamil became more forthcoming in their interactions; approaching him to start chatting like a normal person instead of standing next to him and waiting for Azul to initiate.
2. Jamil trusts Azul on some subconscious level. As much as he’d loath to admit it, it meant something that Azul put himself in danger to save him from his overblot. It’s unlike him to get his hands dirty, especially for the sake of someone else (he was first to point out that they had to act fast to save Jamil). The fact that Azul saved his life and didn’t treat Jamil like he was in his debt makes him feel like he can rely on Azul when it really counts (as does his constant “I would love to fight alongside you! nonsense). It also meant something that Azul was the only one not appalled by his true nature, something Jamil’s always been told to temper. He doesn’t like feeling this way.
3. Azul experienced a similar internal conflict after book seven. He was genuinely surprised Jamil didn’t make fun of him for his immature schoolboy dream; he’s always so quick to get a barb in when he sees an opportunity, it took him off guard (“Huh?”). He was even more surprised he validated his feelings. Azul is so wary and distrusting; before this he knew far more about Jamil than Jamil did of him, and that was how he preferred it. He felt like their dynamic reversed a bit when Jamil learned the intricacies of his deepest, most fundamental desires. Of all the people to judge him, he really thought Jamil would be first in line. It was a strange feeling, being reassured. It made him want to bare his heart to him and be told all the things he’s always wanted to hear. He DOES NOT like feeling this way.
4. Azul and Najma would be thick as thieves if they met, which would give Jamil a heart attack (“you CANNOT trust him Najma I’m being serious he’s not someone you can let your guard down around and you shouldn’t talk to him” “are you the boss of me? Don’t tell me what to do”). She’d find his theatrics funny and Azul would grant her wishes in exchange for Jamil related intel (“what do you suppose he’d appreciate as a gift?” “idk lol”) and baby pictures.
5. Jamil, upon learning that Azul is weak to praise, would exploit this for all its worth. Azul literally cries if he’s complimented too much. Jamil would find that hilarious and be so, so mean about it…

I'm listening to the April Fools 1, 2 fanclub cover and. Like. MINORI AND TSUKASA SOUND SO GOOD TOGETHER!??? LIKE WHAAAAAAAAAAT
Minori sounds amazing in the cover in general but like. Tsukasa compliments her voice incredibly well??? Maybe bc I'm used to listen to his voice paired with Emu and Nene, who have similar qualities as Minori's voice, but I don't think Rui would sound as good w Minori as Tsukasa does. So maybe it's just that they match each other's voice pretty well. Idk I didn't know Minori could sound like THAT. OMG SHE'S AMAZING.
I have to admit Minori's voice is my least fav of the cast, bc she sounds too high pitched in a whiny/strained way?? But I think bc mmj songs have a higher range than other units so maybe that's why she sounds good here, paired with Tsukasa and Akito's vocal range (although they're both good with higher vocals) the song itself can't be too high so she sounds more comfortable.
Tbh I'm comparing this w emunene's Queen cover, I think it falls uncomfortably to their voices bc it's too high pitched but not in a falsetto-way, so it's really awkward to sing the entire song in that limbo.
Now I want to listen more Minori-Tsukasa songs lmao.

I'm kinda disappointed that the Boo cover is more Toya+Tsukasa focus than Minori+Tsukasa focus but it makes sense, Toya Tenma moment. (On that note, actually I thought I would like their bokura mada underground cover a bit more :/ but they still sound good).

Minori sounds amazing in the cover in general but like. Tsukasa compliments her voice incredibly well??? Maybe bc I'm used to listen to his voice paired with Emu and Nene, who have similar qualities as Minori's voice, but I don't think Rui would sound as good w Minori as Tsukasa does. So maybe it's just that they match each other's voice pretty well. Idk I didn't know Minori could sound like THAT. OMG SHE'S AMAZING.
I have to admit Minori's voice is my least fav of the cast, bc she sounds too high pitched in a whiny/strained way?? But I think bc mmj songs have a higher range than other units so maybe that's why she sounds good here, paired with Tsukasa and Akito's vocal range (although they're both good with higher vocals) the song itself can't be too high so she sounds more comfortable.
Tbh I'm comparing this w emunene's Queen cover, I think it falls uncomfortably to their voices bc it's too high pitched but not in a falsetto-way, so it's really awkward to sing the entire song in that limbo.
Now I want to listen more Minori-Tsukasa songs lmao.
