I have COVID

I have not posted an update in a while. Right now I am typing this while I am in bed with COVID. I tested positive yesterday afternoon for COVID and it is the worse illness I have ever caught. It is worse than the cold. The body aches I experienced were worse than the body aches I had when I experienced pancreatitis last year. I never experienced chills in a very long time but the chills I have experienced usually would happen in the middle of the night around 2 or 3 in the morning. 

I was told for the next few days that I would have to isolate myself and stay away from my dog because apparently pets can also catch COVID. My dog Rupaw is stay with my mother and grandmother for the next few days until I am no longer contagious.  I miss her so much. I haven’t been away for her longer than 2 days since I lived on the Pitt Bradford campus. 

Please do NOT think that just because we have a vaccine and boosters that COVID will just go away! Please stay safe and wear a mask!

When it comes bringing up sexuality in schools it is not necessarily teaching about sex.

The Far Right wants you to think that teaching about sexuality is teaching about sex when in reality that is not the case.

There are children’s books that have LGBTQIA+ themes. None of those themes are sexual what so ever. Many of the books talk about how some kids have two moms or two dads. Some books talk about how some people are transgender and what being transgender means. Some of them are just plain silly and fun like the book titled “The hips on the drag queen go swish swish swish”

The far right is scared because LGBTQIA+ people are slowly starting to be normalized and accepted and the far right hates that. I remember when I was a kid the far right said that LGBTQIA+ people being allowed to get married would be “predatory towards children.”

Teaching about sex is one thing, which yes that should NOT be taught about to Kindergarteners. Teaching that not every person is cisgender or heterosexual is a whole different story. In most K-12 schools the curriculum does not mention LGBTQIA+ people at all or worse mentions nothing positive about LGBTQIA+ people.

You want to know what was said about LGBTQIA+ people when I was in High School? The only time they were mentioned was in health class. You know what was said about them? That AIDS and HIV are diseases that LGBTQIA+ people get. I’m sorry what? This was back in 2009 and around the late 80s and early 90s Magic Johnson told people on LIVE television that heterosexuals can get HIV after he announced he tested positive.

Schools don’t mention Bayard Rustin who was an openly gay black man who had involvement with the Civil Rights movement and worked with Martin Luther King Jr. They don’t talk about Alice Toklas or Gertrude Stein but they’ll do the musical Mame where their names are brought up, but they don’t read any of their works or just even learn about them. They don’t teach about Harvey Milk, they don’t talk about James Baldwin or read any of his amazing works. They don’t talk about Stormé DeLarverie who fought back against the police during the Stonewall Uprising. They don’t teach about Marsha P. Johnson and Silvia Rivera who helped spark the gay liberation movement. If they talk about Andy Warhol often times they don’t mention that he was gay. They don’t mention Lili Elbe who was a transgender woman and was a successful painter during the 19th century. Heck they don’t teach you that LGBTQ+ folks were also Holocaust victims when they teach about the Holocaust.

If you think just bringing up LGBTQIA+ people in general is the same as “talking about sex” than your mind is very much in the gutter. And it comes to show that you are homophobic and transphobic.

This flag was created in 1992. It's older than me, and older than most of you on this app. It represents bears, an identity that belongs to gay men and their community, just like butch and femme belong to lesbians. However gay men identifiers usually describe a body type more than a way of presenting.

Bear describes a gay male who is usually chubby with a strong build and very hairy.

It has nothing to do with being attracted to animals.

Genuinely gentle reminder not to treat "trans men" and "transmasc" as synonyms, nor "trans woman" and "transfem."

They are not. They are overlapping terms. Transmasc identity - for example - includes people who are transmasculine but not men, are only men sometimes, and are men all the time.

My brother is a trans man. I am a non-binary butch. He is a man. I am a man the same way that salsa is spaghetti sauce. We are both transmasc.

Let me say something about these proposals about banning trans people from participation in competing in sports against their gender identity.

Saying it is about “fairness in women’s sports” is absolute bullshit! Let me say something as someone who is a former athlete, is transgender, and also is currently studying Gender Sexuality and Women’s studies.

We are currently having this conversation on both my feminist therory and my sex and sexualities class. A large portion of my classmates are cis female athletes. One of the things we brought up is how we question women who have naturally higher testosterone levels but we don’t question men like Micheal Phelps about having an unfair advantage because he is double jointed.

Most of the cis female athletes in my class believe these types of proposals are not only transphobic but are extremely sexist. You are saying that people who are assigned female at birth are suppose to be dainty, and fragile and not muscular.

Let me say something about a someone I went to high school with. I came from a school where we did not have a girls wrestling team and I don’t even think in PA we have a girls category in Wrestling at the state level or even in the WPIAL. We had a girl on the wrestling team who brought the team to states. She was the only girl on the wrestling team.

Proposed legislations such as the so called “protect women’s sports act” is actually harmful to ALL women not just cis women. In Pennsylvania last year the proposal basically said unless classified as a Coed sport that athletes have to play with their biological sex. You know what that can lead to? A school prohibiting a cisgender girl to play on the high school football team. How many schools have you seen have a High School girls Football team or a College Women’s Football team? Chances are you haven’t seen them because at this moment they don’t exist because football is considered a “boy sport” or a “man’s sport.”

Then you have people who think transgender people should have their own category. Excuse me but even the cisgender female athletes in my one gender, sexuality and women’s studies class feel that is a form of othering and being just as discriminatory.

People who are double jointed don’t get their own special category in sports especially in the Olympics. They can compete against people who aren’t double jointed. If we had a special category for double jointed people like Micheal Phelps people who screaming that is a form of discrimination in an instant

If it was about fairness, girls who play football in High school would be given an opportunity to play at the college level if they want to play at the college level. If it was about fairness cheerleading would not be labeled as a “girl sport” or a “woman sport.” If it was about fairness girls would be allowed to play on the baseball team and women would be allowed to play in the MLB.

It is about fairness and protecting women’s sports my ass!

What you are saying in complete BS! Your generation is the generation that set up millennials and zoomers to fail! Your generation screwed they younger generation over! The cost of rent when you were younger was on average $248 a month. The average of the cost of rent today is $1000+ a month.

You have to meet 3xs the rent to be approved for an apartment. The stimulus checks, tax refunds, etc do NOT cover the cost of living. How about the real reason a lot of place are short staff is because they are low pay and not offering any benefits. People of my generation WANT to work! We don’t want to work part time making $7.25 or less and have to rely on Medicaid for health care coverage.

You are saying teenagers are lazy? Excuse me but there was a point in time where every place hired at 14, than it was 16, now it is 18 for most places. By federal law the minimum age to work is 14 but different businesses have the right to set their own minimum age as long it complies with labor laws. Most places hire at 18 now because they don’t want to deal with Child Labor Laws.

I have worked for various companies for almost 10 years. I worked in retail, food, call center, nonprofit organizations, Amazon warehouse and even for a theatre.

With the cost of rent and utilities $7.25 is NOT enough and it is not enough to support a single person living on their own. What you call “government handouts” HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

Not to mention let’s talk about the sub minimum wage. In the U.S. it is legal to pay people with disabilities below the federal minimum wage which since 2009 has been $7.25 an hour. Meaning if the company wanted to they could give people with disabilities pennies a day. Which is not enough money to live off of regardless if they have government benefits or not. Heck it doesn’t even cover Room and Board for people with disabilities who live in group homes or life sharing homes.

You say shit like “the younger generation wants to make $90,000 off the gate” which is nothing but a big fat LIE! If we continue having the minimum wage stay at $7.25 an hour and inflation keeps happening as it has been for decades the younger generations are going to be at an extremely high poverty rate, all because the boomers set up the younger generations to fail because of the boomers being selfish not wanting younger generations to have the same opportunities where the cost of living was affordable and when attending college and/or University was affordable.

PS: saying “get a better job” is an absolute classist and BS response because some of the jobs you would consider “better jobs” some of those jobs they either require 5 years of experience in the field or a master’s degree. How are we suppose to get experience if the company is not willing to give experience? And some of the what you would call “better jobs” still pay below $15 an hour or worse are strictly part time and do not offer any benefits such as health insurance.

To the Karen who called me a “hack” while I was checking her out and told her it said the sign says “card only”

Maybe learn to pay attention when the people at the register say “I can take someone over here if you are paying with card” it does NOT mean we can take cash. The reason for this is some of our registers are credit or debit cards only.

It is not us employees who are what you call a “hack” 99.9% of the customers I have had just did not pay attention. Do you seriously know when I worked at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust how many people tried to order tickets for when Hamilton last came to Pittsburgh and we had to tell them Hamilton was not until the next season? You know how many customers I had at the call center calling to buy Penguin tickets? The cultural trust sells theatre tickets not sports tickets. You want sports? Buy from ticket master!

So no Karen, I am not a hack you weren’t paying attention, no Susan you can’t get a $150 value gift box in the buy 3 get 3 free sale read the sign it states the restrictions READ the sign! No David we can’t honor a coupon that says from November 29th until December 24th today you have to wait until November 29th. No Chad and Debbie you can’t just walk up to the register when we are mobbed you have to wait in line!

No Donny you can’t use the same coupon twice unless it says you can use it twice. I’m sorry Professor Umbridge but you can’t use a coupon that expired 6 months ago. Jennifer I don’t care that the general manager is your best friend I can’t by company policy let you use your friend’s employee discount unless your friend was purchasing the item for you.

If you never had these feels, or these moments you never worked in customer service and it shows. No working as a CEO and being inherited your family’s wealth doesn’t count.

The far right loves to talk about cancel culture and how it is a “liberal movement” or “the woke left.” To that I say that is horse poop.

“Cancel Culture” is something conservatives started. Remember when Sinéad O’Connor in 1992 on SNL performed Bob Marley’s War and ripped a picture of Pope John Paul II on stage in protest of the Catholic Church Child abuse scandal?

She was canceled for speaking the truth and called publicly for the Catholic Church to hold their leaders accountable. She got canceled for speaking truth. She got canceled because she tore up a picture of Pope John Paul the II because he failed to do the right thing and have church leaders who sexually abused children arrested.

Let’s also talk about the band the Chicks. Conservatives wanted them to be arrested for “disrespecting the president” who was George W. Bush at the time. The Chicks called out George W. Bush for the Iraq invasion. Conservatives hated the fact that three Country singing women sided with the “liberals.”

Did you know the episode where Mr. Ratburn married a man on Arthur is NOT the first time the show’s creators featured a gay couple? When Postcards from Buster did an episode where Buster meets a family where the kids have two moms, social conservatives especially conservatives politicans called for the episode to be removed by PBS Kids because it “indoctrinates children into homosexuality” that episode never made it to the repeats.

When Blues Clues and You had done videos for LGBTQ+ Pride month social conservatives called for the show to be taken off the air because “children are too young to know about LGBTQ+” or they would say “kids should know that a normal family is a mommy and a daddy just how God intended.”

Here is my all time favorite. When Big Bird Tweeted that he got his Covid Vaccine and Ted Cruz threw a Temper Tantrum attempting to cancel Sesame Street by saying they were promoting “propaganda” and even calling Big Bird a “Communist”

So before you scream “The woke left is distroying our country with cancel culture” think about the people who actually are the ones doing the canceling because I will say this right now. It isn’t the “woke left”
