Between 1940-1945 homosexuals as well as gypsies, catholics, political prisoners jehovah's witness, jews, and the physical and mental disabled we're all contained in concentration camps, where they all suffered unspeakable tortures and death. Because of paragraph 175, a law that made homosexuality illegal at the time, many homosexuals were directly incarcerated into prisons as soon as the liberation of concentration camps after the Second World War, for some this meant losing their freedom for 10-15 years. I have nothing but the highest respect and bleeding heart for these men. Men who were persecuted and killed only because who they loved. Men who never got to know the freedoms and rights we so take for granted today. Men who were forced to live their lives in fear and secret. Men who stories are too few unknown or forgot. So many voices lost in time. Learning and reading about their lives inspired me to find my voice, to not be paralyzed with anger or fear but to stand up and speak loudly against the tumultuous times we are living in from Russia to America. If this image saddens you, offend you, or angers you, know that is not my intention, only for people to open their eyes and hearts to see how fragile our freedom really is, how close we are to repeating past histories, and how far we still have to go. The time for formalities has long since passed. Speak out, let your voice be heard, rebuff hate with love. Fight cruelty and ignorance. People have the power! -P
