the main difference between these two events: when gintoki had to kill shouyou, he became completely empty, and lost everything. he lost takasugi, and they hated each other for 10 yrs. now, at the very end, he’s been healing from his traumas, and he’s gained back everything he lost, which explicitly includes takasugi. in fact, gintoki wouldn’t have gained back everything he once lost if that didn’t include takasugi. just as takasugi was chasing after gintoki, so too was gintoki waiting for takasugi to come back to him. and this time, he was able to see takasugi off after they finally reconciled, with the knowledge that gintoki will not be alone or void or empty after this.
