I gotta say. the schadenfreude, the absolute satisfaction, when toddler says "eat your hot dog" and dad says "no! I want a lot!!" (imitating what the toddler does when he refuses to eat unless he is given a GIANT PILE of food, which he will eat approximately 5% of) and toddler says "you can have this" (exactly what we say to him in this situation) and dad says "I WANT A LOT!!" and the toddler tries to think of a way to convince him and says "EAT IT!!" with visible frustration. exquisite. incredible

Actually the one driving me absolutely fera at the minute is "uncomfy", especially in serious conversations about actual social issues

I really don't like the recent jump to using "comfy" as a 1:1 replacement for "comfortable" anyway - it always used to mean "physically cosy" hence the sweet and silly abbreviation. And my brain simply will not update to the modern usage. "Comfy" is for getting into pyjamas in bed, or an adjective for a sofa, not a description of your feelings around social tolerance.

But "uncomfy"???! I viscerally fucking hate it. Disgusting word, completely undercuts the seriousness of the discussion.

All of which is entirely a me problem and at least partly the synaesthesia but fuck me blue, I'd be so happy if it fell back out of usage

They are right it takes a village. Because parenting one on one – two on one is a free space in Bingo, that's nothing. Oftentimes you're gonna be one on one. Parenting one on one is way more taxing than parenting eight on eight. I think it's a little bit like basketball. Eight on eight is easy, man. The kids play with each other, every once in a while one of the kids does something wrong and one parent goes like HEY KNOCK IT OFF. And then everyone's on their best behavior for like ten minutes. When you're in a group setting with many parents who have kids, one parent just by using their dad or mom voice can apply an AoE debuff on at least six kids. Whereas if you use your dad voice on your kid one-on-one, I mean that's a targeted spell. You're wasting the radius of the AoE. So it's less energy efficient, let's put it that way.
