I am an art historian and now studying preservation of monuments in Berlin. This is just an invitation to come with me on my trips.

This is the first FDGB-holiday home of the GDR. Built in the 1950s this kind of cheap hotel for workers still was pretty ambitious from the architectural point of view. Members of the FDGB (Freier Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund = Free German Trade Union Federation) could spend their holidays here with their families in the beautiful Harz mountains in Gernrode.

Since October I study preservation of monuments on TU Berlin. We see quite an amount of places and i just decided to start sharing then with you! Maybe to get interested in that topic, too.. Maybe just to enjoy. :) The First one is the swimming pool of the Olympic Village in Elstal/near Berlin, all built 1935/6.
