I was chatting with a dear friend recently about a difficult business situation.
It was consuming him - mind, spirit, and all.
I found myself giving him advice I've given myself sometimes: zoom out.
What's salient in the moment is not what defines you as a person.
It's easy to feel the opposite. What consumes our thought cycles is, for the immediate time, all that we are. That's natural, but it's also dangerous.
The error lies in false representation. That is, assuming that the "now" is the whole of you are.
Take a moment to zoom out: take stock of your life, your relationships, your travels, your health, etc.
There is still beauty, art, and poetry in the world. Tactical issues can be frustrating, for sure, but they don't deserve to be existential crises.
