Ah, yes… Sometimes you just can’t say no to your parents. I get that. My moms can still bat their eyes and get me to do something and I’m twenty-eight… The power of parenthood, I guess.
I get that. You want to make it on your own. But having connections doesn’t hurt, either, you know. It’s a big part of making it anywhere.
My parents are powerful people. They didn’t talk to me for months when I didn’t want to attend business school, I don’t think their friends know what I do, they probably lie about me having a job, just for show.
I guess that’s true, I’ll keep that in mind if I ever need some advice from your mom. I think I was just fed up with having this given to me growing up, I needed my independence.
mcintoshhq·:
If you deserve the job, does it really matter why you got it? I’m afraid I sound far more misogynistic than I intend to, but hey, you’re the one getting the corner office and the fat cheque.
To be honest, I’d rather they check out my portfolio rather than my body. Don’t it’s understandable, I know not all people are like that.
hollidayholly·:
Do you really want a job where the only criteria for getting hired is being a rich old white man? You’re a smart girl, Q. Someone’s bound to snap you up soon.
Surrounded by men that are like clones of my father? No way. Thank you, Holly. I really hope so.
puckhq·:
What’s to lack?
Yeah, I guess in my defends I got started on the parenting train young.
Sometimes guys can think with something other than their brains.
Just like I said. Please don’t tell me you're picking up the single parents when picking up your daughter.
tanalopz·:
Well you do have a killer death stare so I don’t blame them.
No offense, Q, but being a hopeless romantic in this day in age is stupid. All people wanna do is hook up and move on.
My gaze is how I win a person over, or repel them. It’s a gift.
There is nothing wrong with a little romance, not really into the whole ‘hump and dump’ sort of thing personally.
msmercyjones·:
I know it does, but its always when it gets tough that you just gotta hold on a little while longer. It was very much so but I am doing what I love so I will never complain.
Thank you. Of course, I bet it’s amazing to live your passion and do something you really love. Especially when it’s rewarding.
tanalopz·:
They did but it was just a generic example. I’m sure there’s other platforms out there like it that are better. You could always make your own brand, Q. Do what everyone else is doing and make a YouTube channel. You’re super hot so you’ll get a following pretty quickly. Then always link your photography portfolio and soon people will be begging you to take their pictures.
For the time being, I should stick to social media, I don’t have that type of money to start my own brand yet. Well, thank you for that compliment, I never thought of YouTube, like a photo hacks video or something? I was thinking more Instagram, a lot of amazing photographers are on there, and they get big.
smythexx·:
Just a vibe I got. Damn okay, the Mommy issues are strong with this one. Yeah… I’m gonna pass on that.
That’s definitely not true. My story? I’m not sure it’s exactly… New York Times friendly.
Parent issues in general. Rich family, no time for kids, nannies took care of us...equalling a lifetime of resent.
How do you know? Forget the NYT, or any other fake news or biased outlet. You could be someone people look up to.
puckhq·:
so, my sister is starting college next week. my daughter is starting grade five…all i want to know is, when the hell did i get old? i mean, don’t get me wrong i’m still dilf af, but…since when are my girls in grade five and college? that has to be some kind of mistake…right?
It’s crazy how time flies, isn’t it? Our twenties are still young. College wasn’t that long ago and I don’t have a child, but I guess seeing them grow up makes you feel that way. A...dilf? Well, you’re not lacking in confidence that’s for sure.
msmercyjones:
I know you will, just have faith! I am good, just got back from LA, trying to be home for at least a few months before they try to ship me back. You know, the usual.
I try, life just gets a little..tough sometimes. Wow, that must be exhausting and exciting all at the same time. But, you're working hard.
tanalopz·:
I do what I gotta do to survive in this shitty world.
I’ve sworn off men for the time being. Tired of their bullshit games. I mean girls can be just as crazy but at least they’re pretty to look at all the time.
I give creepy guys the death stare and that usually puts them in their place.
I haven’t sworn off anyone, you know me...hopeless romantic and all. But, I have been on some horrific dates, so I haven't dated in a while. Just been too busy with finding a job and other things.
bigappletina·:
Let me assure you that if the New York Times doesn’t want you, it’s their lost. They can enjoy loosing their future successes that you would’ve brought.
Thankfully, no tears shed over that. I always disliked the idea of a desk job, I like to explore and have my freedom in what I do. Parents aren’t happy that I’m still unemployed, but all I can do is try.
smythexx·:
How should I know? I mean, real talk, you look like a woman who’s going to be on Real Housewives in 15 years, with an entirely new, plastic face, clinging to her youth and throwing wine in the plastic faces of her friends. I think the whole not being married to a nice young woman and giving them grandbabies kind of ruins any chance of them being proud of me.
Some stories aren’t really worth hearing. Or… seeing, in this case.
I like how that this is the impression you have of me. I don’t want to be no trophy wife who sits all day throwing back margaritas and spending her husbands money. Now that I think about it, that accurately describes my mother and I will never be that kind of woman. Well, our parents generation wasn’t as progressive as we are. You could still have kids one day, if that is something you want.
Everyone has a story worth hearing. What about your story? Someone, somewhere will always resonate with your story or even mine.
newyorkclarington·:
No offence, but have you thought about maybe trying a career that isn’t a dying trade at this rate? The New York times would give you what, maybe a few good years before they start laying even more people off… and unless something changed while I was overseas, it’s always first in first out.
Try telling that to my father. A ‘real’ photographer should work for a respectable publication. I don’t really want to be made to take photos of things that don’t interest me. I’ve spoken to a lot of people recently that have given solid advice, social media, building my portfolio and hopefully trying to start my own business one day. Well, thats the hope.
iamblaine·:
Or maybe you could try to take things in your own hands and be the business woman this city needs. Haven’t you thought of opening your own photo studio?
You’re so right. I’ve known the ins and outs of the business world since I was in diapers, I could create my own one day. No, I haven’t...I like to go out and find people who intrigue me. But I like the photo studio idea. Thanks, Blaine.
brodyweston·:
Excuse my language, but that’s bullshit. Women and men should be evaluated on the same level, so it’s really sad to see that there are still companies that follow that archaic thinking. But I guess that’s probably one of the reasons the New York Times will eventually go out of business - that and the fact that not many people care about the printed page like they used to.
I’m sorry you had to go through that, though, Quinn. If it helps, I can see if my Ma can pull some strings with a few of the places she’s worked for to get you an interview?
I guess it was for the best, people are saying news is dying out and social media is the way to find your own success. To be honest, my dad got me the interview and I wasn’t too keen on going, but at 25, I’m still obeying daddy’s orders.
Thank you kindly, Brody. But, I feel that I need to discover my own path. I know what I want to do, I started a photography blog, business email and all that, so maybe I’ll make it.
