watched one episode of ride or die and I am immediately in love. wdym we have one hot woman who strides down the stairs like she owns the place and can probably kill someone in a hundred different ways, and another equally hot equally badass woman who is introduced by deftly plying a security guard with tea to get an edge in an antiques show and is masterful at political maneuvering, and they’ve known each other for 20 years and have delightful chemistry and say I love you in a way that is maybe not platonic nor romantic but a secret third thing. icons.

Redtail really said: despite being bitterly jealous of Judith's love for Debbie, I won't kill Debbie. No. It would hurt Judith far more for Debbie to live and for me to kill her love for Judith. So the person she loves is physically alive but alien to her, like Judith didn't love me back like I loved her. Is it textually about platonic love between women who remain best friends--each other's Person and true North--through decades and relationships with men and life's ups and downs?

Yes.

Is it also incredibly femslashy and has so much sapphic subtext it's INSANE including women meaning more to each other than anything else in their lives means to them? And getting jealous and twisted and controlling and needy and all kinds of wild stuff? Caring more about their place in each other's hearts than anything else?

Season 1 review [no spoilers]

A+ Action/Comedy/Drama series. The story kicks off fast and keeps up the pace and pathos balanced well, deepening the story while never letting things drag. It reminded me in the best way of excellent 1990s blockbusters where the whole production is firing on all cylinders and watching is a delight.

The premise is 50something BFFs get thrown into danger and mystery as one finds out that the other has been an assassin during their whole 25 year friendship. The production is quality work across the board, from the high caliber actors to set design, lighting. Just beautiful. Night scenes that are lit well!! Action sequences that actually keep me on the edge of my seat because character and emotion were woven into them all, making the stakes real rather than mere spectacle.

I think my favorite part was discovering the "side plots" and how supporting characters I assumed would remain flat ended up getting fleshed out. And all of that was done in a way that dovetailed with the leads and their BFF love for each other deepening, rather than distracted from it.

I find it fascinating how The Amazing Digital Circus draws a distinction between forgiveness and redemption

Jax gets forgiven but not redeemed. Forgiveness is given, not earned or achieved. Pomni sees all of Jax's worst parts and still chooses to care. Jax still gets put on the mural. The harm is still done, and Jax didn't change. But the cast still mourns. They either don't hate Jax anymore or set that hate aside to move on with their lives. Jax is forgiven but not redeemed.

Caine is redeemed. Redemption requires action and is not just given. After torturing the cast, Caine gets deleted and reflects on everything. Caine chooses to be better. Caine comes back to give the cast some of their memories and to make the circus better for them. The cast doesn't immediately forgive Caine. Zooble even says it outright. Caine is redeemed but not necessarily forgiven.
