Did you guys ever hear of Fray Tormenta? He was a priest in mexico that became a masked wrestler to raise money for children in need… He had to wrestle masked cause people wouldnt take him seriously if they knew he was a priest.  (Jack Black’s Nacho Libre is loosely based on his life)

NOTHING IS LOUDER THAN THE SILENCE

 I’ll be honest from the outset. I was predisposed to love Louis C.K.’s new web series ”Horace and Pete” as the cast is a whos who of actors I adore, but I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it.

Louis C.K. managed to make this series in secret. No publicity. No studios. No distribution. Horace and Pete is a comedy-drama, with the emphasis on the drama rather than the comedy, which harks back to the golden age of television.

Louis C.K. plays Horace, a schlubby divorced looser who co-owns and runs a bar with his brother (or is it cousin) Pete, and the show follows him as he deals with his day to day life. His bad tempered Uncle. His mentally ill Brother. His resentful daughter.

Shot like your average multi-camera sitcom, nothing is louder than the silence left by the lack of a studio audience. The pregnant pauses and lack of fancy editing leaves you just with the acting and writing to hold your attention. And does it ever.

The guest star in episode three, Laurie Metcalf, holds the screen in a close up for a full ten mins before we even see who she is talking too. If there was an Oscar for acting in a web series, I am sure this performance would get it.

That’s not to say it doesn’t have any laughs. With a comedian like Louis C.K. at the helm it has to have laughs. Most of them coming from Alan Alda’s foul mouthed Uncle Pete.

Maybe it’s because there was no hype for the series, or maybe it’s because I love the cast so much, But it is so refreshing to see a smart TV series for grownups, smartly written and well acted and produced without banner ads or annoying editing.

Worried because your state has closed primaries or you’ve never used your constitutional rights to vote before and you think registering will be a terrible, vigorous, process?

DON’T WORRY FRIENDS.

Registering to vote is so easy, let me walk you through it.

Here is an online form you can mail in (available in multiple languages) that also gives you step by step instructions depending on your state. If you live in New Hampshire, North Dakota, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, unfortunately you can NOT use this method.

For any state, you can check the following places to register in person:

State or local voter registration and/or election offices

The department of motor vehicles

Public assistance agencies

Armed services recruitment centers

State-funded programs that serve people with disabilities

Any public facility that a state has designated as a voter registration agency

Here is another link of states where you can register online, if you’re an anxious nugget like me.

EACH STATE HAS A SPECIFIC DEADLINE TO REGISTER IN TIME FOR PRIMARIES. IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER, MAKE SURE YOU FIND OUT WHEN THAT IS AND REGISTER BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

If you do end up having to register in person, do not be afraid friends! You are doing a very important and brave thing.

4. Alright, so I know when I have to vote, I am registered to vote, and if my state has closed primaries, I registered as a Democrat! I’m done now, right?

Nope, there’s one last thing! If you’re like me and unable to get to a voting poll, whether or not it’s due to school, work, your health, or being out of your state/country, you need to fill out an ABSENTEE BALLOT FORM!

DON’T FORGET. DEADLINES EXIST.

Write it in your planner, your calendar. Post it on your ceiling. Write it in ketchup on your burger. Tattoo it to your arm. Whatever helps!

Steven Universe Ending Prediction

Wait what?  Yes, I am predicting the end of the series.

So, the crew of Steven Universe have said in the past that no episodes are filler.  In the most recent Steven Bomb, we got the episode “Steven’s Birthday.”  In this episode, we find out that Steven hasn’t physically aged in several years because of his gem powers.  At the end of the episode, Connie decides that she’s fine with Steven’s lack of aging.  Is this the lesson of the episode?  For a show that spends a lot of time teaching progressive morals, this episode doesn’t really teach kids anything.  Does it teach them to be accepting of their friends who don’t age properly?  No, because that’s not a real life problem.  So, if the episode has no moral, the purpose of the story must be to move the plot forward.  That plot information is that Steven isn’t aging normally.

Now, think about the end of the series.  If Steven doesn’t age normally, are we going to be left with a conclusion where Steven is a child that is more or less in love with Connie but cannot age with her?  That’s awful. It’s like if, in Disney’s Hercules, Hercules decided to be an immortal god while his girl Meg lives and dies a mortal.  The ending would be tragic because we’d know that Hercules would eventually watch his lover die.  Similarly, we’d all know that Steven and Connie as a relationship wouldn’t work after a few years, or, worse, Steven would outlive Connie, and that’s a sad ending.

That brings me to what I think is going to happen at the ending of the series: Steven will separate from his gem and Rose will return.  Separating from his gem will, in the end, not harm Steven, but rather take away all of his gem powers so that he ages and lives like a normal human.  I think this is plausible because, really, has Steven’s greatest strength ever been his gem powers?  No, it’s been his humanity and his compassion for others.  His humanity has educated the Crystal Gems and reformed other gems like Peridot and Lapis.  Steven doesn’t need his powers to be strong, and I think that might be the lesson the show is ultimately going for: that in a world of all these fantastical, super-strong alien ladies, the greatest power is love.

Or maybe I just want to see a Rose and Steven hug idk.
