Reading Guide: Catching-up for Eldritch Moon
Hey all! One of my biggest goals is to make the story more accessible to everyone. Part of that is writing summaries for people who don’t want to have to read a bunch of novels and articles just to understand where everything stands, but at the same time I don’t want to be a gatekeeper. With that in mind, here is a quick refresher to get you caught up just in time for Eldritch Moon.
The Essential Zendikar (As Prologue)
The story of Zendikar is essential to what is happening in Shadows Over Innistrad. If you’re unfamiliar with it, or just haven’t refreshed yourself in a while, I recommend reading the two Nahiri-centric stories, and then the BFZ and OGW story summaries (which also cover the original Zendikar’s plot).

Opening the Helvault by Todd Lockwood
The original Innistrad block had the weakest story of any magic block in nearly twenty years. That’s not a knock on the story team, but at the time the story was in flux, and the novels had just been cancelled. Technically, the entire plot is contained in just two articles, but I’m adding in the summaries of Liliana and Sorin’s backstories. I’m also including the stories that feature Odric, Gisa and Geralf, since they play a role in the new block as well.
