Was Red embarrassed or something? It had seemed like it a bit, but he didn’t have much of a reason to be. If it was because he forgot to introduce himself, and there really was nothing else it could be, well, he wasn’t the only one who forgot, was he? Touya would just have to remedy this by keeping the conversation moving.

[It’s nice to meet you, Red.] Touya signed back while pondering something. That sounded familiar, didn’t it? Hadn’t he heard something about a boy named Red from Kanto?

[Are you the trainer who broke up Team Rocket years ago?] He was almost certain that this was him now. There wasn’t exactly a million “Red”s in the world. However, he really wasn’t expecting to meet that trainer here.

Red was almost shocked when Touya asked him about Team Rocket. It wasn't as if this was the first time a stranger came here knowing who he was beforehand. He'd gotten himself quite a reputation after all of this time, after all, but it wasn't so common for people to question him about Team Rocket of all things.Red was much more used to people asking him about how he was the former champion, and why he spent so much time out near Mt. Silver and if they could have a battle with him...

So this was a pretty nice change of pace, in all honesty. Any hesitation or embarrassment Red might have held in his expression moments before were quickly washed away with a refreshing sort of smile.

[Yes, that's me. Most people don't recognize me for that though, honestly. I heard the credit for disbanding Team Rocket is given mostly to someone in Johto who stopped them after I did.]

Wait, Red was approaching him. Was this how the battle was suppose to begin? No, now there wasn’t enough space for either of them to fight. All of this was starting to get confusing to the younger trainer. Gold’s face went down from full of hope and determination went down to a confused and lost look. He didn’t know what to do, what to say. He was frozen in place. Taking in a deep breath, he bit his lip before speaking. 

 ”My name is Gold. I’ve come from the Johto Region to challenge you, Red!”  His voice  echoed through the snowy mountain top, feeling like it was the only other sound out there other than the wind. He gave it a few seconds to settle in, but Red was still standing there, waiting with the expression he approached him with on his face.  Gold mimicked the look, speaking more softly.  

"Aren’t we going to battle now? What’s wrong?"

Was this supposed to be some sort of sick joke, or was this kid seriously expecting Red to battle him? He supposed it was pretty customary for him to battle with anyone who made their way to the top of Mt. Silver, but this wasn't the time for something like that. The younger of the two was clearly in no position to battle. He wasn't even in any position to be standing on his own two legs, from the look of it. Besides, how was he even supposed to call his Pokemon into battle without, you know. Arms?

Okay, this was ridiculous. Red let out a small, anxious sort of laugh, albeit a mostly silent one, the only noise made by the cold air as he exhaled. This wasn't a laughing matter, though, this guy was serious, as much as it baffled the former champion. So his laugh was followed up by a small sigh, accompanied by a slight shake of his head.

He held up his hands afterwards, and it might have been taken as a sign of surrender if he hadn't followed it up a second later by going through the motions it would take to throw a Pokeball. He shrugged after that. 

It was like he was playing charades, okay, this was dumb, even for him. Fingers crossed that his mom never found out about this because then she would go tell Professor Oak and they'd never leave him alone about it.

Pallet—Home? You wanna go home with me? {Blue reaches out for his hands and holds them tightly} Lets go home then Reddy!! We can go home!

Red froze for another second or two when the girl reached out and grabbed his hands. Physical contact? Interacting with people in general? Um? After another moment or two, though, he gave her a small nod, beginning to walk down the mountain with her, opting to stay silent most of the way.

Green sighed slightly and pushed his scarf up over his mouth. Why is this goddamned mountain always so cold. He thought to himself, staring up at the natural extrusion sticking out of an otherwise flat plane of land. Summer was beginning to end, and even though it was still pretty hot out, there was always a snowstorm on the mountain. Coming home from a long trip in Hoenn, he had seen the mountain as he flew not too far off on Braviary’s back. And of course he had made the stupid mistake of deciding to try to find his old rival.

Can I even call him a rival anymore? He thought, crossing his arms over his chest and covering his hands. He had been in so much of a rush to get here after he landed at the gym he had forgot his gloves. What was he even rushing for? It wasn’t like the mountain was going anywhere. Neither was Red for that, it had been a healthy amount of years since he had gone on that stupid mountain, 3 or 4 at least. The most information he had gotten about the crimson eyed male was from when he visited Gramps or Red’s mum. But from what he had heard he was doing fine.

He yelped slightly and turned to glare at Bell as she nipped at his elbow. The Umbreon looked at him with severe discontent, more than any type of weather she hated the cold. And more than anything she hated the snow, even more than getting shots. “Don’t, okay? I already know this is a lost cause. It ain’t like he’s just going to walk down the moun— Red?” He began to say, stopping only when he turned to roll his eyes and his viridian optics landed on the the other male.

It wasn’t often that Green was struck with nothing to say. He almost always had something to say, some sort of snarky or flirtatious comment. Being serious was a thing of the past for the brunette.

But he still had nothing to say. He opened his mouth only to close it again a few times. What was there to say to the male who had taken his dream from him? The male who, admittedly, he was jealous of. But of course he would never admit it. His fingers gripped the fabric of his jacket sleeves and a cloud of vapor appeared before his face as he let out a breath he had been holding in since he laid eyes on Red. It looked like the raven expected him to say something. Was he expected to go running into his arms? Pick him up and twirl him around like they do in the movies? Or maybe just come up with one of the snarky comments he usually did.

But of course he wouldn’t do any of those. No no, his brain wasn’t thinking correctly. So as the wind whipped around him, tiny ice crystals hitting his face, he merely raised a hand in a halfhearted wave.

"So you’re alive I see."

Was that it? Well, he guessed he shouldn't have been expecting Green to say anything more. After all, it's been... ages. Years, most likely. Red had honestly stopped keeping track. Of course he was alive, though, why wouldn't he-  Well. He had been on his own for the past few years. Not to mention the fact that he'd chosen a freezing cold mountain surrounded by fairly dangerous Pokemon as his home base.

Red talked with Oak and his mother frequently enough, though, so it was only fair to assume that Green had at least heard a little about how he's been doing since they last saw each other. 

Okay, no, he was over thinking this. It's just Green. Sure, they hadn't seen each other in a long time and, yeah, the last time they spent any real amount of time together was when Red knocked him out of the champion position, but they were still friends. They were probably more rivals, in Green's opinion, but Red considered the both of them friends, at least. Best friends, in all honesty. He hadn't considered that time might have changed that.

"..."

It didn't help that Green didn't have much to say, either, since Red, well, was sort of unable to say anything. His normal tactic of writing notes might not be the best choice here. The current state of the wind, paired with the fact that the snowfall was only getting thicker and harder to see through as the two of them stood there would make reading anything Red wrote down pretty hard to read.

After several moments of an awkward lack of response, Red gave his head a small nod, smiling meekly at the other boy. There was so much he wanted to say. Like hey, man, how have you been? What's up in the hizzouse? Only less gangster because Red wasn't gangster at all.

This was it. This was Gold’s chance to prove his strength he’s gained over the years of training. He felt as ready as he ever was going to be, even if he felt as though there was butterfree’s frantically trying to fly out of his stomach. As soon as he could see Reds face, he stood in his place, taking in all of the excitement and nervousness. He opened his mouth, ready to challenge his opponent to a battle of the ages, but then noticed his palm. Gold squinted his eyes and read what Red had written. Moving back in some shock, a giant smile fell onto his face. Red was asking him how he was! That’s probably never happened with anyone else before. He glanced down at himself, noticing his arms and body WAS a bit battered and bruised up, but it wasn’t something a rest at the pokémon center couldn’t fix.

Laughing off his nervousness, he nodded in reply, speaking would ruin this moment for him.

Red followed up the boy's nod with a few more confused sort of blinks. Everything about this felt so strange; so surreal. He wondered for a moment if he was dreaming. The other boy didn't say anything in response to Red's question. He nodded, sure, but he didn't speak, and Red was suddenly thankful for the slight howling sound of the wind, so the two of them weren't left in an awkward silence.

He hesitated a moment or two before taking a few steps closer to the other. He still wasn't sure what to do or how to react... It'd be so much easier if he could talk right now. He debated taking out his notebook and jotting down another message for the boy, but even then, he wouldn't know what to write. Besides, it felt. Weird writing things for this boy to read.

Who was he kidding, it was weird to do anything in the presence of this guy. It's kind of hard not to be incredibly awkward around someone who has no arms and is bleeding like all over yet acting like they're completely fine, I mean come on.

After another few moments of no action from the mute, he simply tipped his head to the side a bit, raising an eyebrow as if asking the other to explain himself.

It looked like he was doing a better job at signing now. That was good, although Touya could hardly blame him for not doing as well earlier. Judging by his reaction, he didn’t get the chance to use sign language with many people. That mixed with his obvious excitement from before could really make it difficult to sign without some difficulty. When Touya had first picked up signing again after years of not using the language at all, he had a lot of difficulty himself.

Touya smiled brightly and gave a little wave towards the Pikachu. He could imagine why the Pokemon showed so much interest in what was going on. How often did you end up with two disabled trainers a deaf Pokemon all in the same place, just by chance?

[That reminds me. I’m Touya, from Unova. I forgot to introduce myself sooner.] Well, the conversation had taken a surprising turn earlier, and that’s to blame. The excitement of meeting someone he can talk to easier made the idea of introductions slip his mind entirely.

Red blinked at the boy, Touya, apparently, for a few seconds before actually responding. The introduction came to him as a small shock, realizing he'd neglected to even tell the other his name before getting into a conversation with him. Heck, he literally introduced his Pokemon before he even signed a word about himself. Haha, what a loser.

He fiddled with the rim of his hat for a moment or two in an attempt to hide any visible embarrassment that might have sneaked onto his face before smiling meekly and continuing to sign.

{she nods her head as she read the note} Alright Reddy! Where should we go? Somewhere warm of course—or just not snowing {she giggles}

He had to pause for a moment to think about that. Where should they go? Viridian City was the closest town, but it was still a while away from here. Charizard could give the both of them a ride, so it wouldn't take too long, but maybe there was another city she'd rather spend her time in? Well, she'd mentioned Pallet, so maybe they should just head back there. Red was sure his mother would be enthusiastic over the fact that he was actually having a friend over.

[Pallet?] Wow, what a wuss. One word. Oh well, it made his point. He liked to keep things simple, anyway. Besides, the quicker she read it, the quicker they could get out of the cold.

She noticed the person enter the town. She’s never seen him before and knowing that she explored all of Unova, she partially knew that he wasn’t from this region.

She noticed how he handed her something. It looked a bit like her own notebook but larger. She gently took it from him and read it. For someone to have to write what they have to say… Does it mean that this person can’t even talk at all? She reached her hand out a bit holding the notepad, only far enough to make it comfortable for her to hold, yet also so he could take it back from her when he needed. She finally spoke to respond to him.

"Hello… Um, well I can tell you where you are right now…! You’re in Nuvema Town, a town in Unova…!"

Was it just him, or did the girl give him a weird sort of look when he handed her his notebook? It might have just been his imagination, in all honesty. He was expecting weird looks from everyone, at this point. Turns out when you have to resort to writing notes to speak with people, you get paranoid easier than you did before you had to do that.

Here's an idea, how about we stop worrying about this so much and write the girl another message? He gave the girl an awkward sort of smile before taking his notebook back and writing out a second note for her.

[Do you know which city has the famous Ferris Wheel?]

Pokemon Trainer Red. 10/10 would have a conversation with again. Only not at all because he sucks at interacting with people. That's what isolation does to you, kiddo. It makes you really awful at having normal interactions with people.

He made it. He finally made it to the top of the Mountain. After using almost all his back up stash and stashes back up to help get his pokémon through the tedious and treacherous wave after wave of battle, after getting through all the puzzles and complications, he finally made it to the top. Gold was never told that the top would be so cold. Pushing his already over done limits just a bit more, he pressed on until a figure was in sight. He squinted trying to make out some slight features.

As soon as the figure waved, he knew it. He knew it was him. The champion of the Kanto region, the one known through out the ENTIRE world. Red.  Gold slowly walked over, his face in awe, trying to plan out how his battle strategy would work with the amount of items he had left and how his team was at in their current state.

Red simply blinked in the other person's directions a few times. Maybe he. Really was seeing things? The boy walked up to him, but the expression he wore on his face wasn't anything painful, like Red assumed it must be. The boy almost looked... excited, or maybe happy, in some strange sort of way. It was hard to tell, really, and Red gave himself a headache just thinking about it.

Just staring at this guy wasn't going to do him any good, but... 

Jeez, what was he. Supposed to do? He opened his mouth to say something, momentarily forgetting about his disability in the confusion of the moment. Realizing his mistake, he quickly shook his head to himself before grabbing a market from his pocket and writing out a quick message on his palm before flashing it in the other's direction.

[Hey. You alright?]

The other’s reaction was really a surprise to Touya. He hadn’t expected him to respond quite that enthusiastically, but it was nice. It meant he was just as happy about being able to talk to someone through sign language as Touya was, or maybe even more than him. Now that he knew he wasn’t bothering the other by sticking around, he felt much more content talking to him.

[I’m glad I’m not interrupting.] Touya signed back, much more steady than the other. It wasn’t shocking at all to hear that he didn’t get much company here. This seemed like more of a place to train than live, and the wild Pokemon were stronger than your average, everyday trainer can handle without having to rush to a Pokemon Center after every single encounter.

[If you’re still planning on settling down for lunch, would you mind if I joined you?] Touya had packed for lunch anyway. A smart trainer always carries around some sort of food. You never know what sort of situation you may end up in, especially when you’re traveling around somewhere that you’ve never been to before.

[Sure. Like I mentioned before, company is always nice.] Alright, that was a little better. By the time Red had finished signing out that statement, his hand motions were a lot smoother, and didn't feel as weird as when he'd started out. He really had been out of practice, hadn't he?

At this point in the conversation, Pikachu seemed to be taking an interest in what was going on, scrambling up to Red's hat to get a better view of the other person. The Pokemon probably wasn't used to its trainer giving hand signals to anyone other than him. Realizing that Pikachu was interested in what was going on as well, Red decided he'd ought to introduce him to the other trainer.

He held out an arm that Pikachu quickly scurried onto, managing to sign pretty steadily afterwards, even with the extra, unbalanced weight.

[This is Pikachu, by the way. He's deaf, though, so he might act a little odd.]

{Blue smiled at him and slowly read the new note being passed towards her..what about her? oh..} I’m Tired, cold and really happy to see you right now Reddy. I came home for you—for ah..pallet town. It’s been a long run but I finally made it back. {she nods} but I just hope you didn’t think i died.

Red felt a pain of guilt as Blue finished speaking. He hadn't given a lot of thought to much of anyone, recently. He hadn't thought of anyone other than himself, Oak, his mother, and his Pokemon in a really long time. The last time he thought about anyone else? It was probably when he suggested Green be the new Viridian City gym leader, and that seemed like forever ago.

He blinking at Blue once or twice before attempting to hide any trace of negative emotion and jotting down a third note. It was a bit messier than his others from the way he rushed it, but it was still readable.

[I'm happy to see you, too. I haven't company in a while. We don't need to stay here, though. It's pretty cold out here, after all.]

Not only were other people a pretty rare sight on Mt. Silver, especially this far up, but people that looked like this guy did? This was definitely a first. Red wasn't... entirely sure how to react to this. At first, he was sure that he was just imagining things. Too much time alone on the top of a snowy mountain with limited human interaction was bound to make you see things at one point or another.

But, apparently, this wasn't one of those times because Red blinked a few times, and the person was still there. Bloody and... armless? And alive, and definitely there. Not really knowing what else to do Red just gave them a small wave. If they were in as awful a condition as they looked, Red could give them a ride to Viridian City on Charizard.

{He wrote a note to her? What was this secon-…mute?} …Oh..I’m sorry Reddy I didn’t know..I’m?? {Blue was at loss of what to say next. But she did look back to the paper} ..Sorry. I wish I were there to hep you—but really there wasn’t a humongous change right?

{she felt very bad for her friend, but even if mute he was still Red! hes still her friend.}

Red did his best to give her a reassuring smile. His muteness wasn't necessarily his favorite topic in the world, but it was necessary to discuss at some points, and he was getting used to talking about it in his own way. Besides, the faster they got past this, the faster things could go back to normal. Hey, who knows, maybe they could even hang out or something. If Red could figure out how to do that, anyway. Wow, he really needed to interact with people more often, he had no idea how human interaction worked anymore.

Alright, alright, another note, here we go.

Traveling around Johto and Kanto, usually searching for hints as to what happened to him to make him lose voice (literally haha wow ba dum tss) wasn't too rare for Red. Traveling all the way to other regions, though? Yeah, not so much. He'd traveled all the way to Unova, partly to get some more of his National Dex complete, and partly because, apparently, somewhere in Unova there was a Ferris Wheel with pokeball shaped carts that had an incredible view.

Unfortunately, he had no clue which city that was supposed to be in, and instead of wherever it was, he found himself in a smallish town, not unlike Pallet Town. There seemed to be a lab here, and everything. Pokemon professors were usually pretty friendly... maybe someone there would be able to give him directions?

Walking inside, he approached the first person he saw. She looked too young to be a professor and, in all likeliness, probably wasn't, but did it really matter who he asked for directions? Probably not. It was likely anyone in the region would be able to give him directions, actually.

Well, okay, here went nothing. Grabbing his notepad and pen from his pocket, he jotted down a quick message before giving the girl a small wave and passing his notepad to her.

[Do you think you or anyone else around here could give me directions?]

{Was he tickling her? Thats what it felt like, he has started to trace his finger along her back in weird shapes? Blue began to giggle as she let go and held up her hands} Hey! no tickling! {Sorry Red she didn’t get it..} Oh my gosh it’d been so long..did you miss me? i missed you! {blue squealed before hugging him once more and getting off of her friend, watching him with a excited expression.} What have you been up to?

Once the girl let him go, Red let out an awkward, albeit completely silent, laugh before rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment. Well, that hadn't gone exactly as planned. Well, that could only be expected, right? After all, even if she knew what he'd been doing it might have been pretty hard to decipher. He gave her a soft smile once she asked him what he'd been up to, holding up a finger as if to say "one moment" before grabbing his notepad and jotting down a quick message for her to read before tearing it out of his notepad and handing it to her.

[Actually, I'm mute. There was an accident, but I don't remember much.]

Touya’s momentary confusion quickly turned to surprise when he realized what the other was doing with that notepad. This had happened just once before, when he was in Sinnoh and asked a boy for directions to the Pokemon Center. It turned out, the boy in question was mute and wrote out an answer on a whiteboard. What were the odds of Touya running into another person who wrote out their words instead of speaking them?

"Can you sign?" He asked with a tilt of his head. Boy did hope the other really did know sign language. Since it he had hardly talked to Cheren, Bianca, or his mom recently, he had to stick mostly to reading lips, and that wasn’t always simple. Signing was much more easy for him to pull off.

"Erm… I’m sorry if I’m interrupting your lunch by asking." Touya continued just after he realized that he may be bothering the other trainer by sticking around if he just wanted to eat lunch with his Pokemon. Good job, Touya. A+.

An enthusiastic sort of sparkle appeared in Red's eyes as the other boy asked if he could sign. Could Red sign? Could Red sign? Of course he could sign! He rarely got the chance to use sign language, what, with the fact that he lived all alone like this and that most of his conversations with people were through letters, but of course he knew how to speak it. Or, well, motion it, really. Red quickly gave an excited sort of nod, which caused  the Pikachu on his shoulder to jump a bit before its trainer calmed him down with the back of his hand. Whoops, don't get too ecited there, friend.

[You're not interrupting anything, it's fine.] The hand motions Red used were quick, and a bit shaky due to how long it's been since he's used them, but (hopefully) fluent enough. [I don't get many visitors around here. Company is pretty nice.]
