In the conversation around the ZA/UM situation people keep referring to Kurvitz et al. as "the original devs" or "the creators of Disco Elysium". I want to point out that plenty of the original creators and developers of Disco Elysium, and even a couple of the Elysium worldbuilders, still remain at ZA/UM, and centering the conversation entirely around The Individual Video Game Disco Elysium and who developed it allows ZA/UM to easily dismiss the criticism by pointing out that this game, like all video games, was made by a large team of people and we should "reject auteur theory". Even though they did play a major role in the development, acting like Kurvitz et al. are THE people who created The Video Game Disco Elysium is not only unfair to the rest of the devs but it also ends up validating ZA/UM's position that the people complaining are just naïve and don't know what goes into video game development.

The larger issue here is not about who developed this one game. This is about the setting of Elysium and its decades-long history and the people who conceived it and dedicated themselves to it and desperately wanted to share it with us but now can't. This is about some of the main creators of the setting being stripped of their rights not only to DE but also to earlier work and the massive future plans they had for the setting, which included more than just video games. Disco Elysium was but a small piece in these plans. A brief introduction. See the 2019 quote from Kurvitz below:

"We have an insanely ambitious list of projects we want to make in the Elysium setting. The last one I want to make, when I’m 50 or 60, that I want to absolutely go crazy on and throw out all commercial considerations and get this as conceptual as possible, is the tabletop setting. The working title for the tabletop setting is You Are Vapor. It will be a really, really, crazy pen-and-paper game." (x)

It seems Kurvitz had planned pretty much his entire life/career around this setting, and the fact that he's barred from being involved with it now is what I'm mad about.

Tl;dr: I take issue with Kurvitz et al. being referred to as "the original devs of DE" over "the original creators of the setting" because Disco Elysium had many more original devs than just them, and because I think the conversation shouldn't exclusively focus on this single product.

i think if trump got indicted joe would pardon him and be like it's in the spirit of politics or whatever. next day trump would get on his stormfront page or whatever media he can still post on and be like "i think it's absolutely shameful, he's got no backbone. he'll release anyone. this is what i'm talking about folks. many such cases"

You absolutely should not. Often if Emergency Responders are right there, it's someone's worst day, and they should have a right to privacy if that's what they need.

Also we don't need extra reasons why someone might stare at their phone while driving.
