barty would rage bait lily so much shes red in the face but little does lily know that while shes yelling at him barty finds her so freaking beautiful that he continues to anger her further just so she'll continue giving him her pure, unadulterated attention

catholic guilt barty who KNOWS that god isnt real. hes read the bible thousands of times, more then most christians probably have, and nothing ever logically adds up. whenever his dad beats him about his open disbelief, he still stays strong, never letting up. “if your god is so merciful why are you doing the devil’s job for him?” and barty means every single word.

but sometimes, in the quiet of the night, he lays awake, trembling. encased by this all consuming fear that maybe his parents are right. maybe the afterlife is real, and his will be spent being tortured by the devil himself. every boy he kisses, every cigarette he smokes, it will all come back to him in the afterlife.

sometimes, when nobody's around, he'll go to the altar which his father built in their manor, an altar which he's one too many times spit on out of defiance. instead of glaring at it, or dirty-ing it up by smearing dirty substances, he kneels and begs. hands clasped, head bowed. begs for forgiveness, for his soul to be cleansed. barty doesn't want to burn.

barty who can't bring himself to devote his life to an "all-merciful" god, and it haunts him.
