I recently watched an indie film called Pater Noster and the Mission of Light, and it really struck a chord with me.
One thing I especially enjoyed was seeing that there are collectors outside Japan who are just as obsessed with obscure psychedelic records and rare albums reissued by labels like Shadoks. It was nice to be reminded that this strange passion exists all over the world.
The film features a fictional band, but the records they create look incredibly convincing. The artwork, design, and overall presentation feel exactly like the kind of mysterious lost album that record collectors dream of discovering. The attention to detail is fantastic.
Back in the day, one of my greatest pleasures was spending hours at Disk Union in Shinjuku and various second-hand record stores, searching for music I'd never heard before. Watching this film felt almost uncanny because the characters reminded me so much of myself.
Every time I discovered another forgotten psychedelic band—whether it was C.A. Quintet, Khazad Doom, Index, D.R. Hooker, or even more well-known groups like Les Rallizes Dénudés and my personal favorite, Congregación—I could forget about the hardships of everyday life for a while.
