To further prove the point that there would be an uproar if this were to happen to any other member, remember when Hoseok did not have a verse in Spring Day? Not just solo Hoseok stans, but a lot of ARMY in general were outraged by it and rightfully so because if something is labelled as BTS, then all of the members in the group should have visible, active participation. Posts that tried to reason with the choice for Hoseok to not have a verse in the song were viciously shot down, stans of the other members were attacked for having an opinion on Hoseok’s lack of lines situation, and if anyone were to put the situation side-by-side with Seokjin’s who had practically no lines in comparison, it was basically asking for a live slaughtering.
But as soon as it happened to Seokjin in Not Today? There was silence, save for the very few posts alike this one that tried to bring up the exceptionally important topic of Seokjin being mistreated, but they were always met with comments like: “BigHit knows what they are doing,” and “The style of this song isn’t suited to his voice.” There was no amassed indignation, there was practically nothing at all because the fandom is so inured to the fact that Seokjin receives hardly any lines or opportunities as a vocalist not just in one song, but across their entire discography starting from debut. It is a matter that has unfortunately been accepted and now ignored by the majority of the fandom due to the fact that this has been occurring since day one, but when it occurs to one of the other members, chaos ensues because it is not considered “normal” since the other members have been receiving hefty amounts of lines and verses in all of their previously released songs, so to see them barely receive a scrap of a line in a particular song is not deemed an issue that can just be told to “get over,” unlike in Seokjin’s case.
Nonetheless, this is not a matter of attacking the other members for receiving more lines than Seokjin and rather it is a fierce attempt to bring awareness to the fact that Seokjin is being greatly mistreated as a vocalist and as a member of Bangtan Sonyeondan. Stop sweeping that under the rug because it sounds displeasing or you are tired of hearing it. Please, start appreciating Seokjin and stop making excuses, stop saying that his voice does not suit that song, stop trying to claim that his role is the face of the group and so that is why he hardly receives lines. You are not only pushing the issue away, but you are also indirectly taking digs at Seokjin that I am sure he would be extremely upset by if he were ever to read them. Imagine you are a member of a group only to see that the comments towards you say that your voice does not suit the music, that you are nothing but a visually pleasing face? It would be a horrible feeling.
No matter if it is an official song, a cover, whatever. If it is labelled as BTS, they cannot leave one member out of the equation. BTS is seven members, not six. Kim Seokjin does not deserve this. No member deserves this.
