(・□・;) = What makes the character uncomfortable
I could take the easy way out and talk about how Kazuma doesn’t like the idea of fighting ladies, but I’d rather make this more difficult for myself. So, how about how Kazuma finds admitting his weaknesses uncomfortable–not in general, mind. In general he’s an honest young man, but where it comes to admitting to such things in front of Yusuke he stutters, he trips, because he’s always torn between believing Yusuke will respect his feelings and fearing that he’ll laugh at them instead. What he wants most is Yusuke’s respect and he might not earn it if he breathes a word that he can’t do something or is weak in some kind of way.
♥ = Character’s preference for relationships
Kazuma’s fallen in love with the idea of being in love, of having this manga-perfect romance and being the hero in story you might find in a shoujo manga. He’s completely sincere in how he feels about Yukina and he’s honest about how he wished to save her, but that doesn’t change how he didn’t know her particularly well. Not when he first declared how much he loved her, at least.
So, I don’t believe Kazuma really knows what he wants in a partner. He has ideas he’s been told he should find attractive, because his culture has particular ideals where it comes to the ‘perfect’ romance and that’s a story often told in all the kinds of media a teenage boy is likely to watch, read and see. That doesn’t mean those ideas would be his own if he stopped to think about it more, though.
If someone asked him seriously, forced him to think about it, he might at least start with describing how they should be some kind of nice girl, but again, that’s because he hasn’t really thought about it deeply. Society has made boys liking girls the norm, so that’s where he would start and he’d likely fluster if someone outright asked him about the same gender. I don’t think he’d trip too much on that if he happened to meet the right person, though.
Like, he might take longer to admit it. He might spend time questioning himself, where he wouldn’t with a girl so much, but in the end if he likes someone then he likes them. He’s too much of a romantic to deny his feelings for too long–unless you’re a certain guy he knows, then there’s a lot more hurdles to stumble over.
He definitely harbours some kind of deeper emotions towards Yusuke, under the surface, but posturing and defences hold him back and feel safer than confessing anything.
☆~(ゝ。∂)= How the character greets people
Friendly overall, but a bit blunt and kind of coarse! Kazuma doesn’t swear anywhere near as often as Yusuke does, mind, but he’s a kid that gets to the point and speaks less politely than you normally expect from Japanese etiquette. That’s if you’re someone worth being polite to, at least.
If you’re rude or someone who generally looks shady, however, he’s dismissive and disrespectful and has little against beating the tar out of someone who presents themselves as a punk looking to size themselves up against him.
