7 April 1234 Sancho VII the Strong, King of Navarra, died. Sancho’s leadership was decisive in the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in the year 1212. In that engagement, the Christian forces allied to defeat the forces of the Almohad Caliph Muhammad an-Nasir. Sancho’s troops cut the chains guarding the tent and slave guards ring of the Miramamolín, supreme commander of the Al-Andalusian Forces. For this, it is believed the chains became the symbol of Navarre and replaced the sable eagle on a golden field with a golden chain on a gules field in the Navarrese coat of arms.

Servant of God Henry II the Pious /1196 – 9 April 1241/,  of the Silesian line of the Piast dynasty, Duke of Silesia at Wrocław and Duke of Kraków and thus High Duke of all Poland as well as Duke of Southern Greater Poland from 1238 until his death. During 1238–1239 he also served as a regent of two other Piast duchies: Sandomierz and Upper Silesian Opole - Racibórz. On October 2015, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Legnica  opened up his cause for beatification, obtaining him the title as Servant of God. 

April 9, 1241: The Mongols defeat the Poles and the Knightly Orders in the battle of Legnica. Duke Henry II the Pious of Poland was killed in battle.
