I’m sure this is old news but hey jrwi team member who made the character sheets. I’d like to have a fucking word with you about putting a church and a window specifically on isaac’s page????????????
i cannot believe i only just a couple hours ago discovered the extended version off upp1.1’s intro. I DIDNT KNOW NORAH WRITES FIC…. SHE HASNT BEATEN THE GAME BUT SHE’S ALREADY WRITING FOR IT… shes soooooo me fr fr
AND IT GOES ON FOR SO LONG???? WHY WOULD THEY CUT THIS MUCH GOLD OUT OF THE YT VERSION. i'd feel robbed but i willingly paid for exactly this. like WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY HAVE AN EXTENDED DISCUSSION ABOUT THERIANS ON THE WAY TO THE CORNER STORE
a not-actually-isaac moment that i think still really perfectly sums her up is the very first roll of UPP, where condi asks if he can make a really bad roll into a fumble for the sake of a narrative that hasn't even begun yet, despite not knowing the consequences of a fumble in Call of Cthulu. It's exactly how Isaac operates—even if she doesn't know how something will make her parents react when it inevitably gets back to them, she's always willing to do something ill-advised if it has even a chance of helping someone else out.
entire upp gang microdosing divorced parents via ending up leaving about 1/3 of their belongings in the wisps basement and never remembering whats there and whats at home
UPP keeps giving me late 90s early 00s horror book vibes so I think I have to draw book covers for it now oh nooooo
This scene was gnarly
Whenever I feel like taking emotional damage I think about how out of any place in the world, Isaac Brooks probably felt safest in the Wisp family basement. If home is the place you feel the most yourself and most at ease, I’d imagine that was his

the other thing about Isaac screaming GET AWAY FROM ME!! at her dad is. Like. We so rarely hear her get scared like that. She tries to bargain with or explain herself to people with power over her all the time but I think we only heard her vocalize in fear like… twice? Maybe three times total before that? Depends what you count but I’m thinking of her muffled screaming when the cockroaches swarm her and the noise she made when Will dropped her dad’s chicken. I’d have to rewatch or read the transcripts to remember any others. But that also means her screaming at her father’s possessed corpse is the first time we’ve heard her be scared enough to SPEAK it and it’s after she gets trapped in a car with an angry abusive parent, crashed into a tree, and is actively trying to fight her way out. She’s sixteen!!! Her fear threshold is way too fucking high for THAT to be the line!!! Even the dice reinforce that bit of story with only one sanity damage like THIS IS A FUCKING INSANE SITUATION ANYONE ELSE WOULD BE HOLLERING THEIR HEAD OFF. YOUR FRIENDS WOULD BE SCREAMING THEIR LUNGS OUT. but she just has one panicked GET AWAY FROM ME!! and then more begging.
i think condi should have a nerf gun every jrwi episode from here on out and everytime the dm even mildly annoys him, he gets to shoot. and also they should employ someone to bring him more ammo whenever he runs out.
Sorry I fear I am never going to get over that "GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME!". Condi did a truly fantastic job there, I know his favorite thing to do when voicing a character is screaming (shoutout jin my life my love <333) but there was a rawness to that one line that gave me chills when I first heard it. He really, truly sounds like a terrified teenager, one who's alone and has already had bad past experiences with situations similar to the one he's presently in. Isaac Brooks feels real, and you feel just as terrified for him as he is. Improv is an incredible form of art, and Condi is a master of it- his characters have a way of flying under the radar until you realize just how many layers they have, how complex they are, how real they feel. And on that note, I do find that his characters (no matter how outlandish) tend to be the most grounded in reality, which I appreciate a lot- even Vyncent somehow manages to feel like a person you might see walking down the street, despite his origin.
Isaac is a very special character, and I truly hope we get to see more of him in the future; this kid is someone I could see at my school, someone I could be friends with- in fact I already have several friends like him- and that hurts my heart. Condi truly shines in the most human moments of JRWI. His characters are understated (and underrated), but they are some of my favorite characters in any piece of media I've seen, perhaps even because of that. It'd be nice to see more Condi appreciation this year ^_^ he's a really great guy and I love his characters!
On an unrelated note, I feel like Isaac's gotta cut his hair at some point, just from a characterization perspective. Which sucks because I like his stupid bun and undercut and so does he but. The Horrors
also note to self thoughts on james brooks’s aggression abuse vs eleanor brooks’s distant abuse I JUST NEED TO HAVE WORDS WITH THEM except i dont because that would make jt worse
i need ruby miller to be real.
ok an overview of this bc i cant wait until my work shift is over i cant anymore. I dont think james hits her but he threatens to. he throws things. he manhandles isaac and physically controls her freedom of movement (the window, the car) and is generally an overwhelming presence in isaac’s life that’s constantly threatening to crush her like an anvil even when he’s not physically there. He’s long since given up on her but he won’t leave her alone why can’t he just leave her alone it would be so much easier to be alone than to deal with the shit james pulls.
and then eleanor is like. She still reaches out to isaac, once in a blue moon. She asks her to come home and cries when she sees isaac safe at will’s but it’s all done at such a distance. everything about her screams of a woman who has folded herself up so small and tucked herself so far away from everything that she doesn’t have the capacity to know or care about the things she’s implicit in. Isaac can stand in front if her as they walk home from church and she won’t look at her. Isaac can stand right next to her and wash the dishes and she won’t reach out until isaac begs her to understand that she’s not trying to be like this. Sometimes it would hurt less to be bruised i think than what eleanor does
UNWITNESS THE HORRORS!!
isaac brooks to me btw..
you’re genuinely one of my favourite artists oat i love how you draw the UPP trio
