She had quite the presence, even if she was a (tiny) businesswoman who wormed her way into some studies by lying about it. She looked quite familiar, almost too familiar, and she befriended a very nice scientist.
She ate success, she shat success. She had so much planned for her life. She wanted him to see where she would die one day.
This theory states exactly what's on the tin, and here's my evidence about it under the cut.
Spamton seems to have not only a name that is very similar to a family pack mod that Noelle downloaded in her Catz Petterz game (something which has been established as having a connection with FRIEND), but also so far it's implied that Spamton's name is his original name, which is an odd choice for a supposed Addison overall, as this brings some very obvious untrustworthy vibes.
To add, Spamton's FrayedBowtie has been noted as reminding Noelle of Asgore (the father) whenever it's equipped.
Spamton, despite fanon, seems to have had his hair be a different color from the rest of his body back in the day, which is strange compared to the other Addisons, which have none. Given also his possible monotone appearance without the glasses, it's very possible he was a copy.
Spamton's own fight convo states that he "was a salesman but was never in it for the money" but "was in it for the freedom". Again, very strange given that he's an Addison. He's supposed to care for the money part. And Addisons' entire purpose, as seen with their appearance, is to just stand and sell whatever products, not move around, nor do much. While one may state this is connected to his status as wanting freedom, it's still weird to consider given he eats Kromer (money) and later acts as a shopkeeper.
Spamton's items when sold tend to be by large counterfeits (or useless unless used for synthesis) save for a few such as his bowties (which have some association with FRIEND if one can assume Pluey's appearance is accurate), KEYGEN, and the ThornRing (which we do not know who gave him that but given its themes there is a chance the ROOTS/Shelter has something to do with it).
He mentions, in the sweepstakes, that each day, his insides turn a little more black and charred. This is an extremely odd detail for a supposed program/email to have. It doesn't help that in Chapter 5, in the Castle Town's church, Tasque Manager prays for extra fire damage for her cats, and all cats as well. This can be taken in two meanings and none of them end well for Spamton.
The pipis. The Catz Petterz cats are stated to reproduce via eggs. Spamton's pipis, at least in the NEO fight, contain copies of him.
Spamton's presence is associated with glitches, to the point the alley and the store he shows up in are glitched. Almost as if he's not supposed to be there at all.
While this is venturing into fanon/unconfirmed territory, FRIEND is associated with demons, the occult and has been argued to be at least Spamton's benefactor of some sort. If Spamton has the heavy salesman/deal theming, this has to come from somewhere.
This implies to me that Spamton was originally some sort of FRIEND, possibly an underling that took a glimpse of either the light world, if not beyond, and given the implication that FRIENDs are almost only ever seen deep in darkness, it's possible that this was a taboo, or that he made a deal either with another FRIEND, Gaster or someone else, and by using a mannequin or another sort of body, he managed to join a "lighter shade" of darkness. But it's not enough, so he wanted to do more and more. It's very likely that he doesn't want to find any other FRIENDs (or maybe even ERAM) again due to this possible taboo breaking.
This creates a number of counterpart comparisons with three characters in UT/DR:
Mettaton
Mettaton in Undertale is, as stated, a ghost inhabiting a robotic body made by Alphys. Spamton has been noted as having a lot of resemblance as well as his role originally been meant for Mettaton himself. This shouldn't need any elaborating if you know Undertale.
Pink
Pink, aka Mad Mew Mew, has not only the same typing as Spamton does, but her body and ghost forms are different, yet at this point similar. While this might be because of Pink's nature as a Penumbraner (Lightner+Darkner), this already has some shared theming with Spamton NEO, but it can go much further given the existance of the mannequin and how Pink reacts to it. By the end of the fight, Pink fuses and is happy with her new body and vice versa, choosing it as her identity.
Kris
Kris has been noted to react badly to a book about raising humans, in which the images of them ended up making the teenager uncomfortable to the point of closing the book and not wanting to open it again. It is heavily implied as well that Kris wanted to fit in with their family, hence why they wondered when their horns would grow, or why they wore a horn headband back in the day. It should also be obvious to say that Kris is adopted, but it's unknown from which family, only that they were adopted when very young.
The alternative on why is he hiding is simple and I think people forgot about ch2 details but he's not hiding at all from FRIENDs.
He canonically is homeless. He's not living in trash because he needs to hide or whatever FRIENDs searches for value (it doesn't make any sense if they are meant to be cat-like), but because he got too broke to pay rent to Queen.
The pipis? Well, not only in the Weird Route does FRIEND not appear at all while the palace is COVERED in them, but also the sweepstakes may imply that pipis are indeed considered eggs by FRIENDs... like him.
