My photo of the Golden Gate Bridge!
I finally made it to Cloud Gate last night. It so happened that I caught a very cool astronomical alignment. Center above the "Bean" is Jupiter, above to the right is the Moon. Everywhere else in the frame; what you see is what you get. The Chicago skyline reflects beautifully off of this 100+ ton stainless steel statue in Millennium Park. I made sure to wait it out for the perfect moment with as little foot traffic as possible. 45mins sitting flat on the concrete poised to snap this 30 second exposure (camera trick to make people disappear) and six photos later I got what I hoped to get. [I am the small triangular shaped shadow in the center of the reflection]
Entering Butler Field the other night from the waterfront near Queen's Landing - I was struck. At first by the scale of what was visible in this particular area. Second and more impactful; as I sat and composed this panorama I could not help but imagine the amount of work and thought that goes into each of these pillars projecting into the sky. The sizes of the teams of planners, architects, material suppliers and construction groups involved is outrageous. Further, the knowledge that there are so many more unseen buildings, specifically two 1000' + tall buildings not seen from this perspective is baffling. I often reflect on the differences of landscapes in our country and lump things first in two ways. One; inner city urban (country tree dense areas fit here as well) landscapes that are huge vertically but limit line of sight to roughly a city blocks scale. Two; Vast wide open spaces, as in midwestern and western landscapes where even a man less than six feet tall can seemingly see dozens of miles in any direction. This particular spot in Chicago was a culmination of these effects. A vast open area leading to the feet of these architectural mammoths on the eastern front of the city. How To Prove Einstein’s Relativity For Less Than $100
“But the fact that you can see cosmic ray muons at all is enough to prove that relativity is real. Think about where these muons are created: high in the upper atmosphere, about 30-to-100 kilometers above Earth’s surface. Think about how long a muon lives: about 2.2 microseconds on average. And think about the speed limit of the Universe: the speed of light, or about 300,000 kilometers per second. If you have something moving at the speed of light that only lives 2.2 microseconds, it should make it only 0.66 kilometers before decaying away. With that mean lifetime, less than 1-in-10^50 muons should reach the surface. But in reality, almost all of them make it down.”
Relativity, or the idea that space and time are not absolute, was one of the most revolutionary and counterintuitive scientific theories to come out of the 20th century. It was also one of the most disputed, with hundreds of scientists refusing to accept it. Yet with less than $100 and a single day’s worth of labor, there’s a way you can prove it to yourself: by building a cloud chamber. An old fishtank, some 100% ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, a metal base with dry ice beneath it and only a few other steps (see the full article for instructions) will allow you to construct a detector capable of seeing unstable cosmic particles. Yet these particles – and you’ll see about 1-per-second – would never reach Earth’s surface if it weren’t for relativity!
Come learn how you can validate Einstein’s first great revolution all for yourself, and silence the doubts in your mind. Nature really is this weird!

Shots done, a quick white balance and some editing tricks to remove the supports that suspended the rocket in place for the shots and this one’s ready for the @Thingiverse!
A trip to Mission Bay, CA is not complete without heading into the Pacific to view the ocean life. This area is the premier place to catch glimpses of whale and porpoise of many species as they make great ocean journeys. Though there are the locals like the sea lion in the first picture.
That little sea lion and his injured neck caused a little stir when I first shared the photo. Read the comments on the photo on Flickr to see the details.
Printed parts of my Retro Rocket.
Fin design complete on my Retro Rocket that I have designed from scratch. Parts prepped and separated for .stl creation. Outer and Inner portions multiplied and slicer for their respective materials. Begin.

Looking to HELL’S GATE in Death Valley National Park in Nevada. Quite a view! In case you want to stand where I was… You have the coordinates. 😜
Another photo from my series I like to call ILL-legal Shots. Chicago Metra tracks. Sometimes you gotta hop a fence and just see what happens. You never know… Could be totally worth the risk!
Got an opportunity to meet Jo Prusa earlier this year at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. Early access has its advantages, and I made sure to use that advantage to meet the creator of my favorite tool!
If you need access to a lot of SD cards and you need them all the time, you should start printing Dranoweb’s Swiss Army Style SD Holder right this minute.

Now THIS could definitely be useful.
Desert Forrest
On one of my many work trips, I was able to make my way to Joshua Tree National Park, in California. This is only 2 of MANY photos that I was privileged enough to take. Right at sunset. What a beautiful place to roam and take in. The desert landscape with it’s fragile, but majestic Joshua Trees, makes this place absolutely unforgettable!
