When the coffee is crap
When the coffee is crap
I feel like a coffee grain in a giant coffee plunger at the moment: with a slow ceiling of pressure squeezing down on the whole world. There is no escape – the metal plate goes right to the edge sealing you in, and it just keeps coming, pushing down, making us swirl in increasing chaos on the muddy, thick, concentrated pool of yuck beneath.
Uncertainty, living in a high state of nervousness,…

Who's choice?
Who’s choice?
If people won’t wear a simple face covering – pulling your skivvy up is acceptable for crying out loud – I am swiftly losing hope they will vaccinate to eradicate this virus.
Here’s a story about the long term effects of people not vaccinating, and contributing the the spread of disease.
Our six-month old baby contracted pneumococcal disease. There was no herd immunity in our area at the…

For our daughter
Twinkle twinkle little star See this child she will go far Up above her joy so bright For good things, she’ll always fight Twinkle twinkle little star Watch this child she will go far.
Twinkle twinkle brave young girl Kicking balls and loves to twirl Started life a sick wee bunny Above the pain she’s always sunny Twinkle twinkle brave young girl In a world of wisdom, you are the pearl.

The Kids Are Not OK.
The Kids Are Not OK.
A child loves a hug,
To be loved, to be snug
In a parent’s warm embrace
Or with their friends face to face.
Little boys they like to rumble
Little girls they like to cuddle
Teens love to just hang out
Chew the fat, lounge about.
Being home suited some
It made others want to run
But a new way of life out there
Has left the kids all feeling spare.
Soc…

A Letter To My Isolated Self
Dear Me,
First up – stop stressing about your kids schooling. If they fall behind because you cannot do what a teacher does, it DOES NOT MATTER. You are not trained to be a teacher – that takes four years and a million more of on-the-job skill. You are, however, a mother. Your job is to raise them as happy, healthy kids. So, ditch trying to do someone else’s job, and do yours. Instead of the…

Swimming in the Swamp of Uncertainty
I wake up not knowing, what this week will devour
In this hour, watch the News, see the ‘Socials’ wielding power
What will the world come to, will life resume rush hour?
I’m swimming, in the swamp of this uncertainty.
Today we’re back on schools: ‘Our kids are fine, they’re safe aplenty’
Says Scomo, versing Gladys, and the parents at number 20
But polio, it crippled –…

Not OK today.
I am not ok today, no way,
Those edges, they begin to fray
I look away, forget to pray
Today, I’m not ok.
I cannot smile, as I walk my mile
All the while, like being on trial
This giant bowl of not-sterile
Today, I’m not ok.
My house is screaming, on me they’re leaning
I have stopped dreaming,
The big word ‘loving’ has lost its meaning
Today, I’m not ok.

The Dance of the Pandemic
There were physical droplets in the air – fat atoms of fear held together by a stretched, thin skin which would pop at any moment. As I slowly creaked and cracked awake, the droplets threatened to rain – no, hail, on me, bursting their bubbles all over me, which would burst my own thinly held together sanity.
It was day four of homeschool due to the Craponavirus sending everyone indoors, and…

The Super Student
Last week, my house turned quiet as four children left the nest in anticipation of the school year ahead.
Three skipped home again, full of chatter, smiles and laughter about friends, teachers, lessons and new beginnings. Positively BEAMING sunshine.
One slumped in cranky. Wobbling on a knife-edge of tears for hours. Crying. Sleepless. Silent. DARK.
We have worked hard on those wobbles…

It's Christmas time
It’s Christmas time
#slampoetry
It’s Christmas time, a good sign, but today, not all is fine
There’s Armageddon
We look to Heaven
But drought rages on, fire and storm become the norm.
It’s Christmas time, the bells they chime, we all drink wine
But there are homeless
Those who hope less
At this time of spending, over-extending, feasting, over-heating.
It’s Christmas time, with all…

Fires they are a burning
Fires they are a burning
Fires they are a burning, churning, disconcerting
Mother Nature’s fury learning, earning the respect.
Respect the big and little, one’s age-twelve, do not bear
When they light a fire, bring in ire, make things dire,
Bring lost love close to the wire.
May they walk with those burnt bodies, change their bands,
hold their weeping hands, see their crying lands
Hear babies choke,…

Nice Naomi Campbell
The life stories of celebrities are often well know. It’s finding the untold, ‘essence’ of the person which makes the story interesting – and it’s no different when writing the life story of the every day, non-supermodel person in our midst.
“Five minutes and she’ll be there….” says one of Naomi Campbell’s three security guards over the mobile. “Five more minutes.,”
“Five minutes to go…”
