I haven't been into UI design for long, but I believe that you only need to make changes if it makes something easier to understand or fixes a common issue/mixup. What does the changes for how post interactions work offer, other than it being a bootleg of Twitter, Bluesky, Threads (I think), etc?
The reason I still use this stupid site is that it has a unique system on how posts work compared to everything else. I love reading notes. Some people don't want to attach "permanent" things like replies or messages to the main post and just want to leave a nice message or their own thoughts. It's legit the only site I know (maybe Instagram for stories) that has something like this. That's Tumblr's unique selling point and they want it GONE
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
Not only will this ruin a core element of Tumblr, it will make it very difficult to tell where and when a post is getting traction. People are on this website because it isn't Twitter. Making it more like Twitter will turn people away.
The last thing this website needs is a culture of catty twitter-style quote-retweets. This will actively encourage more toxic users to interact with your posts because their traffic will be more difficult to track.
this actively sabotages the core benefit of tumblr over other platforms, the ability to have nuanced longform conversations. this change will make the website drastically worse
Yapping cause I'm trying to stay up and not go to bed early and fuck up my sleep schedule. It's about fountain pens, specifically the TWSBI Swipe.
I've actually had this pen for a while but I didn't add it into my rotation just because I have a bunch of other pens, but I will say, it's probably the best pen I have for switching inks.
It's so easy to clean, and can be easily taken apart. While I do have other pens like that, it's just easier to rely on this one just because the parts are super simple and aren't a hassle. Like, I prefer this over my ECO just because I don't have to re-screw the cap and junk. And even if ink got stuck in the vacuum, it thankfully can be taken apart real easily UNLIKE MY OTHER PEN (COUGH LAMY SAFARI, unless it's another pen I've mistaken it for).
The spring vacuum thing only has like, 3-4 parts and if washed out properly, you probably don't even need to take it apart. Also, if anyone's wondering, that clip is just for decoration and doesn't clip anything, it's more-so just a roll stopper or whatever it's called.
