not     his     fault !!!              she  was  naturally  like  this  :  the  idea  she’d  accidentally  offend  did  heighten  it ,  but  sheol  didn’t  … blame  him at  all .  their  language  barrier  didn’t  help  at  all .  eyebrows  shot  up ,  hand  resting  on  her  chest .               “    n  -  no , no !!!  it’s  okay ,  i’m ,  uh ,  j  -  just  more  …  jumpy  …  th  - th  -  than  most .  the  …  the  stutter’s  …  natural .     ”               hand  waved  by  her  mouth  as  she  tried  to  explain  herself .               “     i  -  i  pick  …  vegetables  and  plants  a ,  a ,  a  lot  …  i  think  i’ve  gotten  good  at , at ,  at  telling  what’s  dangerous  and  not ,  so  i  -  i -  i  figured  it  was  fine .  but  i  haven’t  …  seen  a  radish  before .  is  it  unsafe  … ???     ”

                    “  ah,  okay,  if you say so.   ”     -----  words betrayed thoughts,  and an effort was still made to toe the line between gentle and polite;  it should have been a default response regardless,  but flustered  confusion  had done little to remind him of that need.  lips pulled thin in a hum at first,  though quickly morphed into a few short barks of laughter,  hand rising too delayed to cover it up.  zero for two  on the courtesy count.

                    “  i don’t think my reaction would have mellowed out from the initial shock if it  wasn’t  safe;  they taste good.  pickled or in soups,  or even raw if that’s your diet. kind of like a carrot.   ”

People make good money with worse writing than this, and there was some sort of effort involved – picking up a thesaurus, as the other already pointed out. It’s nothing to applaud someone for, but more than most would bother doing. He can commend the attempt, at least.

 Chin balanced in the palm of his hand, he leans in a touch and narrows his eyes. “Why are you so worked up about it? That must be one hell of a reason.”

                   “   well usually,  there should be more  thought  towards both.  ”     -----  stance shifts,  feet toeing left then right in an unmoving dance on his own as he hums,  fingers picking at the page corners already worn by cuoi’s exasperated flipping / folding / frowning.  with the finality of a sigh,  his shoulders slump and he leans back in his seat with the slacked laziness that he rarely allows himself.     

                     “   i just think that the requirements are getting so lax  these days.  i think it took me eight years to publish my first research piece; something that i studied since my  second year  of university.  two years past graduation for this person,  what a joke.  ”     -----  a smile,  flashed between fingers as he runs them over his face.     “  but this must be boring to listen to a stranger  complain.   ”
