FINALLY watched thespians and i really enjoyed it so… here are my initial thoughts (vague spoilers below??)

the songs overall are quite generic (though this is not a major criticism as i expected this from someone writing their first musical) but a lot of fun and i still loved them! adonis’ song in act 2 about doubling down was a personal highlight and let me not forget the old man tango!!

the characters are a lot of fun too!! matt cavendish and allie dart’s many characters were brills!!!

melampus and adonis were my favourites

it starts of slow but picks up pretty quickly imo and i felt it found its feet in act 2.

the love story (no spoilers) was sweet. believable without overpowering the story (i’m not a romance fan generally so i enjoy it more as a side plot)

it’s not a laugh a minute like their other shows (not necessarily a criticism as this was another thing i expected with it being a musical). some moments are more serious… without taking itself TOO seriously iykwim

major criticism was the generative ai (which i have heard a few people talking about). mischief seems to have listened to the criticism here as there was some taken out (i.e. the ai thespis fan shirts are now just t-shirts with ‘i <3 Thespis’ printed on it like those NYC shirts & some of the banners weren’t used at all. not sure if that’s a staging thing with it being a touring production or if they’ve cut them completely from the show—i just know them from stills and didn’t see them tonight). the stuff that is left would be harder to replace in the last two weeks of a tour i imagine so hopefully they don’t use it at all if the show was to come back. still quite disappointing to see it used at all but alas.

anyway… OVERALL it was a fun show and i’d love to see it go on a bigger tour!

i think one of the elements of cornley that has relatively untapped potential is exploring the ppgw love triangle, but in regards to max and jonathan’s friendship. because there are MULTIPLE pieces of media from the lore archives that imply that during tptgw, max and jonathan considered each other really good friends (and i believe there’s even some social media stuff that labels them as BEST friends). and i feel like the fall-out in ppgw and then the aftermath of that is reallyyyy interesting. the fic potential is crazy guys. get in the tunnel with me.

I’m so obsessed with these 2 seconds of Jonathan and Trev in the behind the scenes of ACCGW I am losing my mind. Very scared and upset Jonathan fully latching onto and wrapping himself around Trevor. Trevor helping and nearly bridal carrying him (and I think saying “it’s okay it’s alright you’re okay” ??). I need to be sedated.
