The craziest thing about this whole situation is that Ilya thinks in Russian and in Russian ‘lovers’ LITTERAL TRANSLATION is ‘возлюбленные’. Which ACTUALLY MEANS ‘people who feel love and attraction towards each other’. MY BOY WAS CONFESSING HIS LOVE TO SHANE AND LOST IN TRANSLATION GAME. HE WAS SO PURE ABOUT IT AND ONLY GOT ‘No, Ilya, that’s gross’. MY SWEET LOVERBOY.
Imagining Ilya rozanov, freshly wounded off of the tuna meltdown situation, finding out the man he is hopelessly in love with is dating a super hot movie star, and then going home and finding out about brocedes divorce. Like that was his second tower.

reheating ep1 and was struck all over again by just how kind shane's actions are during the press conference. like, he doesn't just notice ilya struggling and step in w/o drawing attention to it (while still managing to subtly ask if that's what ilya wants) to give him time to think of an answer* no, shane has to go full grade-school-short-answer mode and reuse the words from the reporter's question, repeatedly, to give ilya the chance to understand the question.
*already way more generosity than ilya is used to. this is supposed to be his rival, yet shane shields him from embarrassment so easily, automatically. and then he has the gall to respect ilya's intelligence too by answering in a way that arms him with the words to craft his own response?? fuck right the hell off.
and shane's little smile when ilya just goes "what he said" they are EQUALS!!!!!

The fact of the matter is that people in Shane's life would generally assume he's incredibly awkward about sex. Honestly, it's hard to imagine him ever even having it.
So when they find out that he's apparently been with Ilya Slut Extraordinaire™ Rozanov for years it's genuinely baffling. Because if he locked up the NHL's presumed Most Laid Player that unsociable, sober, macrobiotic-diet-having, hockey-hyperfixated motherfucker must be getting his back broken on the daily.
