âI doubt itâd be a problem if you did. Now that you mention it, I might even bring it up, just to know.âÂ
âI just donât want to bother anyone,â she explains. âWait, really?â
angelthirdâ:
âitâs nice to meet you too laurie, genuinely,â he reassures, still keenly aware of how tense the conversation still feels, âiâve been told i might need to work on the resting bitch face a little. itâs not all the time, i swearâ just kinda tired lately.â
This is a little progress. âMaybe just a little.â Laurie cracks a smile. âYou have a really nice smile. Iâm sorry youâve been tired. Unable to sleep?â
hellxerâ:
âAm I his keeper? Heâs picked a different club, Laurie, get over it.âÂ
âNo, youâre his best friend. That counts for something.â Something inside Laurie deflates something. Josh is a big deal now that heâs a member of the Five. Laurieâs just missed him ever since being resurrected. For her, itâs fresh. For him, itâs been years. âSorry. I just thought Iâd ask.â
hellxerâ:
He shrugs again. âStory of my life. Just donât cast any bad mojo on me.âÂ
âIf anyone deserves any kind of bad mojo, Julian, itâs you.â Not that Laurie will ever do anything to him. âBut hey, uh, have you seen Josh lately? I know heâs been busy with the Five.âÂ
angelthirdâ:
warren could feel the nervous pheromones gently wafting off of the other girl, but he did his best to ignore it. realizing he probably looked way too angry to be approachable right now, he relaxed, smiling politely, âthanks. iâm warren, by the way. you?â
Laurieâs never actually met the other Angel. Heâs a little too big and out of her league. This Warren doesnât necessarily seem very friendly, but they donât need to be friends. Laurie just wants to get out of the conversation without any trouble. âMe? Laurie. Iâm Laurie.â Since he didnât bring up Angel she doesnât bring up Wallflower. âItâs nice to meet you, Warren.â

âOui, datâs âmy friendâ, 'cause you are.â He smiled again, even more now since she wanted to have a go. âParfait! Anâ you mostly hafta watch, but you also gotta think.â He slipped three cards out of the deck, then revealed one of them as the queen of hearts. âWhat you gotta go is tâ find dis lady here. See if you can follow her while I mix up de cards. T'ink you can do dat?â
Laurie, surprisingly, has a lot of friends even though sheâs not great at making them. The Hellions had just been very welcoming. They fought, sure, but they had also grown close. Laurie appreciates getting to reconnect with everyone as of late. At the moment, however, her nose is scrunched as she watches the cards. Theyâre not even moving yet, but sheâs waiting in anticipation. âYeah, yeah. I think I can do that. Letâs go.â
xshadowprydeâ:
âNo, no,â Kate had the grace to look guilty. âSomething aboutâŚboys? Did you mention a boy?â She tilts her head slightly. âOr girl?â
âBoth? Neither. I donât know. Itâs probably neither.â Laurie knots her fingers together. âThere was a boy, but then I died for, like, a long time. And Iâm pretty sure he moved on. Now heâs all big and important and Iâm just -- well, less time has passed for me. And Iâm so excited to be back. Donât get me wrong. Itâs just weird.â She pauses. âWow. Overshare. Iâm sorry.â
gxmbiitâ:
âIf you like it I can probably find you a spare hat,â he waggles his eyebrows at her. âMaybe some boots.âÂ
âOh, thatâs really nice of you, but I donât think Western is my thing.â Not that Laurie really has one. Wallflower is pretty vague. Itâs not even like she has any botany related powers. âI like the boots that I have.âÂ
babyfoureyesâ:
âI actuallyâŚdonât have an answer for that. Thatâs more of a bigwig, upper echelon of mutant society type of question.â
âItâs not a big deal. I really donât want to bother anyone. I was just curious.â
c-yxlopsâ:
âIt was one time.â He looks sullen, serious. âSo you can laugh, one time, but then itâs time to drop it.âÂ
âI would never laugh.â The words come out quickly. âI promise. I wouldnât want someone to laugh at me.â Or notice her in general.
hellxerâ:
âEh, why do you think I come around? Daily dose or whatever.âÂ
âOf course itâs not because weâre friends or anything.â Friends would be pushing it. Julian and Laurie are both friends of Josh, and not really friends of each other. âGlad to see Iâm your walking pheromone factory. You know it can swing negatively too, right?â
angelthirdâ:
warren let out a slow, deep breath, feathers bristling as he folded his arms in annoyance, âyou know, staring isnât the complement you think it is.â
Her cheeks instantly flushed, eyes dropping downwards. âI know, my mom always said that.â Laurie had often been the starer and not the staree. It wasnât until her powers had manifested that people had looked at her, but that was all artificial. âTheyâre beautiful.â She offered up, as if that would help ease the offense.
hellxerâ:
âYouâre really about to embarrass yourself, arenât you. Yup, there you go.âÂ
A puff of pheromones were released as Laurie fell back onto her rear. âNot cool, Keller.â She muttered to her teammate before she climbed back to her feet. âIf you start feeling happy in a second before I emitted, thatâs on you. Donât scare me next time.â
xshadowprydeâ:
âSay that again? I was thinking about tamales.âÂ
âIt wasnât -- I mean, it wasnât important. You can ignore me.â It was Laurieâs nature to shrink back into herself instead of being assertive. Wallflower was more than just her codename.
gxmbiitâ:
âIâve been rockinâ the wrong ensemble! No more low cut boob windows for me, Iâm goinâ full western now.âÂ
âShould I ask questions here or just say that I like it?â
technocableâ:
âThe old man isnât around, so youâre stuck with me for a bit. Câmonâ Iâm more fun.â
âI guess a little fun never hurt anyone. Actually, wait. Scratch that. Fun can definitely hurt people. What kind of fun are you?â
mutantsgoddessâ:
â surprised to see me, plebeian? i simply awoke from the slumber of death. fret not, i do so often. â
Laurie had died as well. She had been dead for a long time, actually, even though she was now reacclimatized to the world of the living. âI donât know how you manage that.â She admitted, eyes trained downwards. âOnce was enough for me. I still have nightmares about this black nothingness I canât escape.â At least her death had been quick and painless. One shot and she was gone in Joshâs arms.
