You really can't photograph anything effectively without a decent understanding of light. Lighting technique and choice make such a huge difference. It's the vocabulary of photography. It can be elegant and clean or harsh and dramatic and everything other shade in between. It can change the look and feel of the product in very dramatic ways either elevating the overall aesthetic or diminishing it.
