oh my god just cleaned out and updated my mods and organized them back to the mods folder

i totally forgot i need to redownload all packs i've acquired by totally legal means and it's gonna take forever :-) one day i'll get to play the game

haha my laptop refused to boot so i had to reinstall windows, i have all my files saved and FOR ONCE i had moved my sims 4 saves file on my desktop because of the update so i have my saves???

i was so smart for that thank you past me

updating my game, i haven't had my mods on anyway because i've just been enjoying building all vanilla lately

most of my mods are fucked and in need of update anyway so i guess it's cc purge time

i've been playing the sims medieval a lot lately and man it's fun, remember when stuff would just happen in the game and you didn't have to micromanage every damn thing

#like the game has some guidelines for you but you can still make the story your own?? and your actions matter???#the sims 4 could never #like you need to WORK to make your sims actively bad for example and it's so exhausting #if my sim is mean then why are the default actions for them good then like why do i have to work for it #sims 4 pisses me off there are no consequences whatsoever

These are the results of my in depth look into how TS4 spec maps work.

The alpha layer seems to add a reflection or sheen at between 12.5% - 87.5% opacity of the colored channels. It’s more liquid looking than metallic and seems most effective at around 50% strength.

Green seems to effect the brilliance of the shine making items appear to be made of polished metal. At low opacity, it still implies a metallic quality to an object such as a brushed metal tap.

The way that blue effects shine makes an object seem curved and plastic-y. Probably best for lacquered effects like automotive paint or nail polish. Would be lovely at 50% strength and 50% opacity on Art Deco furniture for that high-glamor look.

Red seems the most promising for clothing on its own creating effects from vinyl and latex at high strength to silk charmeuse and crepe on low opacity.

In combination, just about any effect is possible, but I would suggest a gentle hand. High opacity, high percentage spec maps are very extreme.

Remember when My First Pet Stuff came out and we all made a big stink about it? Remember when TS4 team said it sold well but also quietly decided that they wouldn't do an add on stuff pack like that again? Then they made up a new kind of pack and put out stuff that absolutely is just leftovers from packs? And now they are releasing EA App subscription exclusive kits of some pajamas?

What a sad state the Sims 4 has come to.

I totally blame the paywallers for this at this point. They tested the waters for EA if people are willing to pay for subscription models. I hope they'll give themselves a pat on the shoulder if Sims 5 is subscription-based, and releasing mods will be limited to EA's official marketplace. Cheers.
