I block & move the hell on. I strongly suggest everyone do the same! π―
well alright!!!! great way to kick off the freaking round, omg. $10k going IMMEDIATELY into savings so he can gtfo this trailer and into a HOUSE finally, dang.
he celebrated this "lil" win by inviting Eyax over for a date per his wants.
lately i've been playing a lot of Project Zomboid and it's given me sooo much inspiration
now i keep wandering around northern Kentucky on Street View looking for build ideas
so... welcome to Riverton
since i already have another neighborhood in progress, i figured i could make this one a Build A City Challenge
i've barely played it so far, but once the gameplay starts getting interesting i'll keep you all updated lol
anyway
we're almost at 100 followers thank you guys so much!!!!!!!!!!
holy moly - this house is getting chaotic and FAST; but! the kids go back to school in Spring so that'll help a TON. let's get that wrap-up, wrapped up, under the cut!
started the round with Odette in her first trimester and it was morning sickness all. day. long. second trimester whooped her buns big time, she was sleeping A LOT, third trimester was much more of a breeze. i know she was very very over being pregnant
Otho is doing SUCH a great job running the cat cafe, we've reached the 5th ranking in this round and he was able to kitty-cat Eris a new home (made a solid chunk of change from that one!)
Olivia had her first kiss with Johnny (Smith) AND she maxed the music & dance OTH
Octavia had a few play dates with Jill (Smith)
Odette finally had the baby, we welcomed Oxley and he aged into a toddler right at the end of this round, he even got a skill in: talking!
Odette fulfilled her wish of becoming a werewolf via friend, Eliza (Pancakes) and then immediately rolled a want to be changed back which was granted. She was a werewolf for 2 whole hours π€£
Otho had a want to buy a hot tub and he was able to save up just enough after countless items breaking and having to hire Chester (Gieke) to come by and fix'em up, the baby being born and needing baby things - these things add up quick! But he persevered and got that hot tub on the VERY last day of the round!
I bought an external SSD for Linux. External, because Windows updates have a nasty habit of overwriting the Linux booter. I downloaded a Debian iso, and installed Debian. I installed Wine, and Proton, and a whole bunch of other things, switching my desktop from Gnome to KDE along the way. I installed the Sims 2 from Steam. I installed VSCode and cloned my repository. Then I got to the actual work of making SimPE work correctly on Linux.
To recap what actually got fixed along the way:
Wayland β X11 (KDE Plasma switch) β fixed the game hanging on window-manager "not responding" false alarms
nouveau/NVK β Intel iGPU via DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME β fixed the full-system freeze, which turned out to be the immature Vulkan driver for my RTX 4070, not a game or Wine bug at all
wine-9.0 β wine-11.0 (Proton Experimental) β fixed SimPE's DPI-awareness crash on any menu click
Application.ExecutablePath β AppContext.BaseDirectory in SimPE's own code β fixed plugin/panel loading when launched via the dotnet.exe muxer (needed because the .exe apphost's runtime detection is unreliable under Wine)
linux/simpe-launch.sh + linux/install.sh β packages all of that into a one-click launcher, committed to the repo
So, a new release of SimPE for Linux is out now.
a Linux port of my Windows SimPE version. No Nvidia DDS utilities or DirectX needed. 64 bit, running on .Net 8, in C#. Original 0.77 version
i have tried a BUNCH of different alternatives, including obsidian, but none of them tick all 3 of my required boxes like notion currently does:
can access from any device to work on it
100% free
no AI / can opt-OUT of AI / can disable AI
i know it has AI and ive gone in and turned of every. single. AI-thing. i can. so far, it seems fine, im not getting anything about it when updating waverly there (and there's A LOT i need to update...holy shit...)
i 100% understand WHY the ability to sync across devices isnt available or free, i am not complaining about this whatsoever, i get it but its something i need for my workflow. so, notion it is, for now. i will keep poking and prodding at other programs similar until i feel fully satisfied in a decision to stay put.
I made you a hair! Well, I really made Miss Millicent Morose here a new hair, but I figured you might like it too. It's sculpted and textured by me from scratch. Credit goes to the almighty blessed RheallSims for the hairline.
I made you some other things too! They're pretty simple, but I hope you still enjoy them.
Announcing OpenSO alpha testing π§ͺ Signups are open now!
OpenSO is a revival of FreeSO, a fan-hosted recreation of The Sims Online, upgraded with a modern foundation:
Runs on .NET 10 LTS with the latest MonoGame. GitHub Actions automatically builds client, server, and updated shaders for all platforms.
A C# launcher replacing the old Electron one, with an integrated patcher and self-updater.
Replaced the Mina.NET dependency with a rewritten networking and buffer stack supporting TLS end-to-end encryption.
Updated rendering pipeline: dynamic frame rates >60FPS, resolution scaling, new AA options, and optional post-processing effects for 3D mode.
New features: rebuilt Create-A-Sim with zoom & rotation plus larger icons; edit your Sim's gender, appearance, and skintone at any time from the Select-A-Sim menu; a Social Bunny NPC who shows up to help your Social need when your Sim is alone. π°
Fixed long-standing nitpicks, like the window scaling/mouse glitch.
Always free and open source, with no pay-to-win or donation perks.
OpenSO is early in development, so things may break or be rough around the edges. Expect frequent updates.
Player feedback will be crucial in shaping the game's direction. Once the foundation is tested under a real player load, the beta release can shift focus to new content & gameplay changes while staying faithful to the original game β as well as events, documentation, tools, and quality-of-life features.
The alpha provides starting funds of $100k to begin building. The testing world, Genesis, will be wiped for the public beta.
Signups are open now and public for anyone who wants to help playtest, report bugs, or contribute ideas and changes.
