HI so I realise I've just become an account where I disappear for months and then reappear when a new Pixar film comes out so I can shout about it but here we are
I just saw Hoppers. And I loved it so much.
I've said it so many times before that Pixar films always feel like they came out at the right time for me. Which I think is just an effect of them being incredibly relatable and current and important. BUT
I now work in wildlife and conservation full time which is why I'm not active here anymore. And just...it addressed the issues SO WELL. Working together!! And I'm forever trying to get it into people's heads that humans ARE nature - it's not us and them, we all live on the same planet. And I feel like Hoppers did such a great job of showing how wildlife and people should be coexisting and it shouldn't be hard.
!!!!! I LOVED IT. And the humour was great. And the characters were great. And all the animals looked SO soft I just wanted to hug them all it was almost too distracting but it was perfect
I hope everyone else loved Hoppers.
Also I've loved kind of going into it blind. I feel like I enjoy it more when I'm not picking apart every part of production that I can get news on. It was such a wild ride.

First poster for Pixar's Hoppers (2026)
Hi! Idk I feel like even though I'm barely active here anymore I still need to document my thoughts on the latest Pixar movie.
First of all. I liked Elio. My favourite bits: the creepy scenes, Elio is very very cute, I really liked the use of We Are Not Alone as a double meaning kind of thing.
I think you can tell the story has gone through a lot of changes, because there are so many really great elements and ideas, but it's like they don't fit together...effortlessly?? It's not one flowing beautiful story. I liked the slower first half of the movie learning about Elio and his life, and I loved that he loved getting abducted. But it weirdly felt like the universe kind of got smaller in the outer space half of the movie. Even though it literally got astronomically bigger. It suddenly just became really simple. Get badge. Stay in space with friends.
I just wanted to type out my current thoughts on the movie. It's better than seeing what the internet thinks about it, and every post about it outside of tumblr being like "There was no marketing for this movie!!" and "Another bean mouth movie?! Pixar are FAILING"
These aren't original opinions.
There was marketing. Marketing is weird now. Sometimes it doesn't work, because the internet is awful. During the trailers at the cinema, I realised I had no idea any of those movies even existed. I don't know how I receive information these days. it's depressing
I like the 'bean mouth' style if that's what it's called. I think it's fun. But I think people making this comment probably haven't seen the movie. Did Glordon have a bean mouth? no Turning Red and Luca had a similar kind of art style, but they also really really didn't? It's just annoying when you see people complaining about movies but they also don't see the movies.
ALSO. I think Disney+ and streaming services generally have had a pretty sad effect on the cinema experience. It's such a vicious cycle. I remember the feeling of needing to see Inside Out another time in the cinema before they stopped showing it, because it would be ages before I'd be able to see it again. But now my brain knows it'll be on Disney+ pretty soon so it's fine. But also when it does come to Disney+ I probably won't watch it because I'm overwhelmed by the amount of choice we have nowadays.
Or maybe I just need to calm down and stop overanalysing Pixar movies. but i can't stop now

Pixar just revealed their upcoming 2027 film Gatto, directed by Luca director Enrico Casarosa.
"The film returns to Italy, following a black cat named Nero. Indebted to a feline mob boss, Nero finds himself forced to forge an unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose..."
So this is SO exciting to me for so many reasons
Cats. CATS
Enrico Casarosa directed Luca so beautifully and you could tell how much he ADORES Italy just in the way he portrayed it. It felt so unique and personal. Also La Luna! I love how all his Pixar projects have been Italy + water
I literally bought his comic travelogue The Venice Chronicles because I love his illustrations so much and the watercolour drawings of different areas of Venice are just 🤌🤌🤌
I then WENT to Venice and brought his book with me and could pinpoint where I was on his little hand-drawn map and it was magical.
I visited the famous cat bookshop in Venice (Libreria Acqua Alta) and just the VIBES of cats hanging out in this beautiful flooded city. Ugh. Soooo stunning. Venice is the prettiest place I've ever been and I can't believe it's real tbh. And I can't wait to see Pixar bringing that to life

Pixar is bringing back bloopers for the first time in 20 years for Elio??!! This is the single best choice they could have made.
WIN OR LOSE (2025)
Lee Unkrich has just revealed he will be returning to Pixar to direct Coco 2 together with co-director Adrian Molina.
I’m really excited to share that I have returned to Pixar to direct Coco 2, reuniting with Adrian Molina as my co-director! We’re both deeply grateful that Coco remains so beloved, and have already been having so much fun diving back into this world! 💀🇲🇽🎉
Also Michael Giacchino replied with "🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥" so I'm choosing to believe he's returning as the composer. Coco definitely has a top tier Pixar soundtrack so this would be a dreammm

Sorry this has just become a place I come to when I've seen a new animated movie and want to shout about it
I saw The Wild Robot yesterday and it may have immediately become my favourite Dreamworks movie??? It was stunning. And it did what I always want animated movies to do more - experiment with different art styles! The kind of impressionistic/watercolour backgrounds were so so lovely. I love that this and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish pushed the usual boundaries more of 'what an animated film should look like'.
Also. In a strange turn of events, geese have become a weirdly central part of my life in recent years, and The Wild Robot features geese in a very beautiful way and I will always love it for that.
👀 wow.
The purple category on today's nyt connections 👌👌👌
Nearly didn't get it and I'd have been so disappointed in myself
