Kodaline is an up and coming band from Ireland I believe. I learned about th when I went over there in March. This is one of their biggest songs and is my favorite by them. The Boss could not be more right

Today I was sitting in my history exam, mid essay, and I just started to think about how much I wanted to be on a beach listening to music. I quickly put away this thought in my head and finished the exam because I only had an hour left. I just revisited the thought after listening to the classic "Dancing When the Stars Go Blue" by Tim McGraw which ultimately led me to think about it's music and it's impact on me. Bruce Springsteen once sang, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever did in school" in his song No Surrender. THIS STATEMENT COULD NOT BE TRUER. Have you ever heard a song and been like yes. This song gets me? Or holy shit I know exactly what they're saying? Or wow that's a beautiful way to put something? Or wow did you hear that? That's lyrical genius right there. This happens to me all too often. Music and song is the best way express or to get a point across to someone. I just love thinking about it. Someone else feels the exact same thing I do and is articulate enough to elaborate poetically through song. I JUST LOVE IT. Music is so powerful it and evoke every emotion in people. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Sorry that's just a small rant about the power of song and I love it.

Sweetlife 2014 Blog

Hello my loyal followers! I am back! Yes I'm talking to all two of you! In this post I'm going to discuss the music and food festival, Sweetlife. I went to this festival last year, but this year I went all day and think I have a better grip on it. For those of you who don't live in the DC metro area chances are you haven't heard of this. Basically it's a food and music festival put on by Sweetgreen. Every year sweetgreen gets a ton of food trucks and awesome artists to come to an outdoor music venue and it's just a really fun time. Some of the food stands and trucks this year included: Luke's Lobster, Shake Shack, Sweetgreen (of course), the Big Cheese, Astro Donuts and many many more. sooooo good. Anyway, back to music. This year the line up was a little different from the past but good none the less. It included St. Lucia, Hozier, Chromeo, 2 Chainz, Bastille, Lana del Rey, and Foster the People. *theres probably 20 more but those are the only ones I got to see* I'd say the age range was 15-27+ (but I did meet a 12year old boy named Sam from England). a wide variety of people came, in thousands, at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Now mind you the outfits ranged from Coachella wannabes to tshirt and shorts but very cool and "hipster" But, it's not the people, the clothes, the food or the drunk teenagers you have to fight off to get front row that draws me to this event. It's the music. It's the rush you get running from stage to stage. It's being able to see your favorite bands preform live, they're real people! It's being able to discover new favorite bands and artists live. It's the festival feeling. Often times music festivals are associated with drugs and alcohol, and I'll be honest this concert does not come with a shortage or either, but as a whole I think it's pretty controlled. Parents hesitate sending their children to these things- and I do agree that there is an age where festival going is appropriate- but we as a generation should be encouraged to discover new things and new genres of music and different types of anything and I don't think there is a better place than a festival. I will post a few pictures from this year at sweetlife if you would like to see them. GO TO SWEETLIFE NEXT YEAR! LOOK FOR FESTIVALS NEAR YOU! I hope you liked this. I kinda just spewed.

My House Guest Rant

Ok. So I haven't written in a while about current music but now that summer is coming I'm going to start again- yay! I hope my whopping TWO followers enjoy my upcoming posts. Basically, I've been making TONS of playlists on spotify (inbox me if u want them) and so I've been looking through and testing a bunch of different music genres. Here's so background on my house guest- this relates to my music blogging and hopeful music related career I promise- so he's my dad's cousin and is around 27 years old, technically hasn't graduated from college but is working in DC for something i don't even knows but he stayed with us last year and was a complete PIMA- lucky me! He's back. So today I was browsing through spotify and came upon some MKTO songs. I'm sure you've probably heard their song "Classic" (great song, very catchy) and so I was playing some songs off their latest album. So PJ (my cousin) walks in to our kitchen and starts kinda mockingly dancing along to the song "American Dream." He then proceeds to say, "you know if someone were to stereo type teenage girl music, this would be the epitome of it and you would be it's poster child." Personally, I was offended by this statement. Not only because I showed him a variety of ed sheeran and alternative music the day before: a genre rarely tagged along with teenage girls- but because he diminished me into a group of "teeny bopper" music. It's one thing to say you don't enjoy the same music as someone else- but don't vocalize it and characterize my taste with something that usually, and unfortunately has a negative connotation. I admit! I do enjoy my occasional boy band from time to time but who doesn't? Moral of the story: play stereotypical teenage girl music to piss off annoying house guests

Thoughts on Miley's VMA Performance

A very controversial topic this week: Miley Cyrus's performance at MTV's Video Music Video Awards.

      I doubt anyone who is reading this hasn't seen her act, but if you haven't, here is a link (its too hard to describe): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMKPnyDIhS0. As you can imagine, the press, parent associations and even kids were up in arms over this "display", if you could call it that. I specifically saw, a Fox news piece where the anchors rip Miley apart in, my opinion, a cruel and unfair manner. Fox although is known for its conservative outlook on things so this review could have been predicted by many. I also heard radio shows and other celebrities speak out about the show, saying both negative and positive things. 

    Personally, I think everyone over reacted and needs to calm down. What did you expect? It's an award show put on by MTV, a network known for pushing the envelope. We all know that Miley isn't Hannah Montana anymore and she's not trying to reach Hannah's old demographic (twelve and younger). She's changed a lot about herself but the kids who grew up watching her have changed too. As far as parent associations go, its a parents job to teach kids what is right and wrong. I think every parent knows that by putting on MTV, there could be some "risqué" things shown. So, why do they think its a good idea to let their five year old children watch? It's not MTV's or Miley's fault parents couldn't stand up to their eight year olds and say, "sorry sweetie but thats not for you to watch." When I grew up I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons, so whenever it came on I would change it. There are ways to get around it, folks. 

      I can see why people would think that the performance was pushing it. But, I expected something like that from Miley and MTV. Come on people! We all saw the music video for the song! Who or what did you think was going to be onstage? Hannah in her cropped jean jacket and her bedazzled pants? NO. Because Miley isn't Hannah anymore and everyone needs to get over it. Lets not forget the time that people were ready to start a riot when she pole danced on stage, and acted like no one ever did that before! 

    So what! The girl was dressed somewhat scandalously and started making inappropriate gestures, let her do what she wants. If you felt uncomfortable, you could've just turned it off. I grew up watching Hannah Montana and am still watching Miley grow. Was I shocked when Miley ripped half her clothes off or started twerking on Robin Thicke? Not really. 

    What Miley most likely wanted was a talked about performance, and you gave it to her people! "She's just being Miley"

Face the facts, Miley Cyrus won't stop. She said it herself.

Music Blog #3: Pom Poms by: The Jonas Brothers

Utterly disappointed. I was really hoping the Jonas Brothers would make a come back and retake the world by storm but I don't think this song can do it for them. This song failed to fulfill my expectations based off of the hype of the song leading up to its release This song was supposed to kick start the brothers comeback yet, the song is just "weird." I don't know how else to describe it. Prior to being released, I believed the use of the marching band was promising but upon hearing this single I was displeased. I hate writing this, as a Nick Jonas supporter, but this song just doesn't cut it for me. I cannot see this song being performed well live. If this song is any indication of what is to come for the "JoBros" be prepared for more disappointment. Unfortunately, their future as a band does not look very promising.

What a great song. I just discovered this and I wish I came across it earlier honestly. I'm quickly becoming a fan of alternative music rather than radio pop and such. This is considered alternative but it also has a rock feel, which I like. The song starts off at a slow pace but then picks up. I really like the fact that your hear the instruments distinctly in this song. Recently, artists have turned to a more techno/dubstep approach but not here, which I greatly appreciate. You should really listen to this! I will be sure to check out more from The Black Keys!

I really enjoy this song. I'm glad to hear some new things from Miley, especially when she sounds good. This is the first time i've heard Snoop Dog since he "reincarnated" to Snoop Lion (reggae focused) and I really like it. I was hesitant when I heard he switched but I was pleasantly surprised. You should definitely give this tune a listen. Although not available for purchase yet, Miley tweeted the sound cloud for it (see bottom). Personally I can't wait 'til I can buy this song.

Hi! Please Read!!

Hi! I'm starting a music blog, where I'll inform people about new music, give my opinion on songs etc. I'm open to new genres of music that i haven't heard so please recommend things! I like all types of music and am interested in pursuing something in the industry other than singing, because I'm terrible at that, so i thought this would be a great place to start.
