Robert Todd Lincoln, Abe Lincoln’s eldest son, served as a member of Grant’s staff during the Civil War, he went on to serve as Secretary of War, and a lawyer after retiring from politics. He was also saved from near death when he was pulled from falling off a train platform by Edwin Booth, (brother to John Wilkes Booth) shortly before John assassinated Abe Lincoln.
