Achieved one of my long-awaited dreams
Yes I did it. I'm done with my Master's degree. What a journey!
I'm really blessed to being able to see this moment. I would really like to thank everyone who's helped me achieve this goal.
Now, it's the time to start the next journey, the next challenge. it's going to be awesome, I'll be writing about it soon.
Time-based goals
I've been struggling with my health and weight for more than 10 years so far. I reached a weight in which it restricted me from doing a lot of things that I really love, I also used to feel tired whenever I started any activity even if it was a normal one.
Three months ago, I challenged myself to go on a diet. And I set a target for my weight, it was to loose 20 KGs. In addition, to make it a bit harder, I challenged myself to achieve my goal within a three-months period.
Now, and after finishing 2 months and 28 days, I've proudly lost around 28 KGs of my weight. This is actually one of the most amazing achievements in my life. But when I think about what happened during the past three months, I think of nothing but how amazing this journey was. To be honest, I love food, I love cooking, and I love to be with friends and share food, But I actually had to sacrifice all of these just to reach to my goal. I can tell you, It was not EASY. But it was certainly fun watching myself transforming.
One of the most important things that I've learnt during this experience is:
Whenever you have a dream, a goal, or a task, SET a DEADLINE for it, and imagine how your life will be when you're done.
When you set a goal, and a time frame, believe me, you will get your goal and even with better results. Just start doing it.
Value Proposition Design
Today I attended a launch event of the book Value Proposition Design. Although I still haven't got my copy, but I can say that it's a great book, and the effort put to publish such work is magnificent. However, I sill can't see the point of the new presented tool: the Value Proposition Canvas. I believe this method of gathering customer information has been already there for decades.
From what I understood so far, this book is more about restructuring already existed methodologies to build products' strategies. While I believe it's a great approach, especially that it reshapes many ideas so that they become more understandable, I don't like, however, when people exaggerate and forget about the efforts that were put in the past to reach this level of business innovation.
I believe we need an explicit and innovative tool that combines all the techniques out there in the industry such as: Lean Development, Design Thinking, Business Model Generation. This tool should explicitly structure the workflow to target opportunities, values, customer segments, market segments, product life cycle management, testing, iteration and product launch.
I know it's a huge thing, but the real questions that come over and over again in every event I attend are: which model should I use? Lean or Design thinking? how to combine business model canvas with my product life cycle management? how could testing be conducted?
If we structure all the great ideas we have in a framework that help decision makers and entrepreneurs follow a pattern for innovation, then I would say... Welcome to the Era of Evolution.
I wish I would change my mind about the ideas presented, but let's wait first until Amazon decides to ship our copies :)

A message to all Hypermedia RESTafarians...
I've been investigating RESTful Hypermedia technologies for a while, and I'd say that I'm really frustrated by the amount of people who claim to understand and develop hypermedia technologies, here are my thoughts about it:
REST came up by Roy Fielding as part of his PhD, with all my respect to this great mind, but I don't believe it's necessary to debate and discuss about things he's said and should be always done. There's always a degree for better design.
I believe when REST was first designed, the idea was to build APIs for browsers rather than building for machines, this is intuitively seen by the concept of hypermedia. Hypermedia with all the discussions that Fielding started is totally applicable on browsers because it's easy to perceive what changes have been made by the server and act upon these changes.
For Machine-to-Machine applications, the degree of hypermedia is much less than what it is on browsers, it simply is because our machines until now are not capable of understanding data changes, the only solution for this is to consider the changes of links and backward/forward compatible resource schema.
A message to all the people who claim to understand hypermedia: when it comes to showcase an innovative solution you built and does hypermedia, please don't use the browser, because our minds are what drive the hypermedia, it's not the browser.
A challenge for those people would be to design an application that's human-independent which talks to an API. Change the API by adding a new mandatory data field to any resource and tell me how would your hypermedia client respond.
Quit Your Job
After working on many projects and with different teams and organizations, I believe there's one simple formula for an easy decision to changing what you do and start looking for a new job; this formula is not about money, it is not about your manager or whom you work with, this formula is what draws a successful career:
When you wake up in the morning and feel that you're going to work on something that you feel is easy, and this keeps continuing, then it's the time to look for a new job.
Product Managment
I'm reading at the moment some books about product management to improve my skills and enrich my knowledge in this amazing field. I'll be posting some of the important things that are in the heart and surround the topic.
I'll start with an amazing definition for the job of a product manager which I read in the book "The Product Manager's Desk Reference":
The primary function of the product manager is to choose the correct response to rapidly changing, complicated conditions, or in the best circumstances, to be able to anticipate and lead change.
