It is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33.7% salinity that makes it impossible for animals to live. The Dead Sea is the only place on the globe where the crust of planet Earth recedes to minus 416 meters below sea level. It is also the only un-drownable lake on earth.

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was an Italian astronomer, physicist and philosopher. His achievements include improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations. Galileo has been called "the father of science". His discoveries with the telescope revolutionized astronomy and paved the way for the acceptance of the Copernican heliocentric system, but his advocacy of that system eventually resulted in an Inquisition process against him.

#12 The Shroud of Turin

The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man. It is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy. Millions of people contend that the shroud is the actual cloth placed on the body of Jesus Christ at the time of his burial, but independent tests in 1988 concluded with 95% confidence that the shroud material dated to 1260–1390 AD. The origins of the shroud and its image are still the subject of intense debate.
