This morning your body was familiar. You are standing under the shower head, surrounded by familiar people, familiar smells, familiar hands and arms and legs. The hot water sears your skin. Your father’s markings on your skin, etched in. You do not know the pain of tattooing but you are trying to sear it in nonetheless. Hot water searing your skin.
Hours ago your father died in your arms. The blood will not leave your hands no matter how hot the water. The markings won’t either, but you would never kid yourself about those.
You remember Noma told you, sitting in the barracks, that tattoos are the body’s way of giving up on expelling toxins. Something about being unable to break down the ink. You think about your father’s blood on your hands. The soap stings where Michael whipped you, and it’s all you can do to focus on that.
He appeared and disappeared all so quickly; typical. Leaving you with a photo of your dead mother and and a body that isn’t yours. The markings snake up and around you, hugging you as if to say, you are your father’s legacy, you are your father’s son. You never knew your father to be kind. It makes sense he would leave you with a legacy like his own. Again, you consider leaving town, leaving everything behind. A pilgrimage to death. An abandonment. Your father’s markings on your skin.
Only you can see the movement of the markings. A blessing, the archangel had said. It’s our hope. You wonder if your father ever saw them move. You wonder what your father saw in you. You wonder what the desert is like after three days, no water. You wonder what messages from God are like, if he were around anymore. You wonder what your father’s favorite color was. You wonder if the tattoos hurt. Yours don’t. You turn up the heat again.

Archangel Gabriel and Alex in Dominion S02E01
Love the rare times Alex and Gabriel have scenes together, even if they’re just shit talking each other the majority of the time 💀💗
This scene was becoming SO sweet and tender, until…😭 Anyway, I’m gonna pretend THAT didn’t happen, and just think about how Michael looks ridiculously pretty with tears in his eyes.
Keep the painting. There’s something else I want.
Uriel ships them and I love it 👀😂
August 7th, 2024: Roxanne McKee shares an Instagram story post of the Dominion cast reuniting!!!! 🥹😭💖🙌
